Many consider having a degree related to traditional professional careers the desired goal. Still, the reality is that with the advancement of technology and the development of professions that offer more significant economic and personal benefits, the truth is different for the new generations.
Graduating as a telecommunications engineer could have been the start of a promising career in technology. Still, for Edwin Cadena, this academic achievement marked the beginning of a journey toward his true passion: the art of tattooing.
Edwin had felt a deep connection with the world of art from a very young age. Despite his skills in science and technology, his true passion lay in expressing himself through techniques such as charcoal, graphite, and pastels, as well as in water and oily artistic painting. However, his foray into tattoo art ignited his creative flame.
Edwin Cadena Hernández, as he is known professionally, is an experienced tattoo artist who masters a wide range of techniques, from shadow realism to black and gray specialty. His training includes courses at renowned art academies and specialized seminars in tattooing, where he has honed his ability to capture human anatomy and the essence of life in his creations.
“Every step I have taken in my career has been a significant achievement,” says Edwin. “Even the simple fact that my mother, at 72 years old, finally accepted that tattooing is a worthy profession and asked me to tattoo her is a milestone for me. It has helped me find peace and tranquility with myself.” For Edwin, tattooing is not just a job but an all-consuming passion. “At this moment in my life, the tattoo is everything to me,” he expresses with emotion. “It’s what I study, breathe, sweat, see and do. It has saved me from a life I didn’t want for myself.”
Looking to the future, Edwin hopes his experience will inspire others, especially his son. “I don’t want to pass on the frustration I experienced to my son,” he explains. “I hope that when he grows up and finds out my story, he can find his own path, and I can guide him.”
Although tattooing remains his main passion, the Colombian known as @Edwink.Tattoos on social media also plans to explore other forms of artistic expression. “I hope to have studied other techniques such as sculpture, photography, and 3D modeling before,” he says. “Art is a never-ending journey, and I’m excited to see where it will take me.”
Edwin Cadena’s dedication to his craft is a testament to the transformative power of following one’s passion. His journey from telecommunications engineer to celebrated tattoo artist illustrates the importance of self-discovery and the courage to pursue unconventional paths. In a world where traditional career trajectories are often prized above creative pursuits, Edwin’s story is an inspiring reminder of the validity and value of the arts. Through his intricate designs and commitment to excellence, Edwin vindicates the art of tattooing and elevates it, challenging societal perceptions and showcasing the profound impact that art can have on individuals and communities. As he continues to explore new artistic frontiers, Edwin’s work remains a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others to embrace their unique talents and passions regardless of societal expectations. His journey underscores a powerful message: true fulfillment lies in pursuing love, and art, in any form, is a noble and worthwhile endeavor.
