Expertise in a particular field comes from trial and error. As far as entrepreneurship goes, there is no proven approach to achieving success, but from several years of experience comes the ability to identify pitfalls. Every business’s ability to avoid these pitfalls contributes largely to its chances of success. For Coleen Otero, starting her entrepreneurial journey places her in the category of entrepreneurs who have “seen it all” not only because of her long years of experience but also because she has dealt with a diverse clientele through the years, first as a hairstylist before diving full-time into entrepreneurship, particularly in the real estate and automobile industry.
For Coleen, the ability to adapt to the changing environment and circumstances is another impressive trait every entrepreneur must possess in today’s business space. She recalled her experience following the 2008 financial recession (one of the biggest financial crises in America’s history) when she lost everything. As a result, Coleen was saddled with rebuilding and rebranding herself in the beauty industry.
Soon, she found herself in the driver’s seat while dominating the scene as the most in-demand celebrity stylist, with a clientele comprising celebrities like Sherri Shepherd (The View), Sisaundra Lewis (The Voice), Myesha Chaney (Preachers of LA), and Junice Rockman (Relationship Rescue, Thicker Than Water). In 2008, Coleen landed the role of lead stylist for BET’s Black Girls Rock. Realizing how adept she has become and how she was able to rebuild in many folds within a decade of losing everything, she decided to serve as a stopgap between female entrepreneurs and their challenges, hence the reason she founded The CEO Chicks.
Although an entrepreneur by nature with a passion for business and marketing, Coleen is heavily driven by passion, and her current focus is on a passion project called The CEO Chick Network, a network for women of all ages, who are savvy, bold, witty, and fearlessly taking control of their financial futures through entrepreneurship.
The CEO Chick Network is a branding agency and non-profit that offers members coaching, content, and community to help them collaborate, create, and dominate in their respective industries. This is done through The CEO Chicks Infobar™, a resource for those who may not be ready to commit to membership but understand the value of the masterclasses, sessions, and other resources provided by CEO Chicks. Along with her team of like-minded industry professionals and leaders, Coleen has developed the iCandy” marketing tools.
“As a young entrepreneur I have always desired to share a space with those that have achieved a certain level of success in business and life. I wondered what would happen if you could connect with various coaches and high achievers in one place. I started to look for coaching programs that had this sort of one stop shop and couldn’t end it. There was a focus on one person, one area or expertise, one perspective. I struggled and that problem soon became the platform we all know today as CEO Chicks.” Coleen shared.
