It’s no secret that sneakers are the object of some people’s obsessions, which led to the inception of the so-called sneaker culture. Sneakerheads across the globe compete to get the latest limited editions and classic reissues of sneakers. To cater to this burgeoning market, Cookies N’ Kicks offers the largest selection of sneakers brands, styles, and limited editions one can find.

Founded in 2019, Cookies N’ Kicks prides itself on being the fastest-growing shoe store globally, carrying best-in-class brands such as Nike, Air Jordan, Revenge X Storm, Vans, and Adidas. CEO Eli Hayman wanted to buy and resell branded sneakers to satiate the market’s thirst for the latest kicks. His brand targets all individuals, regardless of age, who are avid collectors or simply love the lifestyle.

The shoe company has gained many patrons, including in the digital space, just 20 months from its inception. As a matter of fact, they are the most followed brand on social media platforms like Tiktok, Instagram, and Youtube. In Tiktok alone, the brand has more than 2 million followers and 96.5 million views in total. This shows how the company is becoming the leading retailer of sports-inspired lifestyle shoes on the global scene.

Best of all, clients can shop for the most sought-after sneaker shoes from their boutique in Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles. Also living up to the store’s name, this store gives out delicious cookies to its customers free of charge. However, Cookies N’ Kicks isn’t just confined to their brick and mortar store. They also have an online website that customers can access 24/7, wherever and whenever they want to. In just 3-5 days, orders are shipped to the chosen location.

On the other hand, employee welfare is one of the strongest points of the brand, according to CEO Eli Hayman. He shared, “What makes us different from our competition is, we buy and sell shoes and clothing in the most friendly way possible. We truly consider our entire staff a family and get together out of work all the time.” A philanthropist at heart, Eli hopes to provide more jobs as his company grows globally. In his own words, “Taking people who need jobs and helping provide for their needs is something I hope I can do for more people in today’s society.”

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has forced most business establishments to shut down, the crisis has only encouraged Cookies N’ Kicks to never back down. Having tripled its previous years’ revenues in the past few months, the company has shown everyone that it is a force to be reckoned with. “Customer experience is what we prioritize above all else. I think our focus on creating a community for our customers, and social media growth is the reason why we’ve been so successful during a time where most businesses were failing,” said partner Luca Schnetzler.

Customer service is also top-notch in this company. “Not only our staff but our customers are treated with a warm welcome and a cookie as if it was their own home,” according to Eli. On top of that, their social media sites are curated to spread positive and family-friendly videos that share what it’s like to be part of their team.

This is all thanks to Eli Hayman’s hardwork and blazing passion, as well as the dedicated team behind him, which made Cookies N’ Kicks the go-to multi-brand sports and lifestyle sneaker store. They made the store every sneakerhead’s dream come true. It’s no wonder why they are the most sought-after store, even among celebrities.

Hindsight 2020: Why Investor David Hamilton Nichols Believes Tomorrow’s Successful Companies Will Arise From Today’s Crisis

The benefit of hindsight is 2020. Looking back, this year gave much of the world pause—mostly forced by circumstances. Yet, it has also been a year of vision for some.

Social impact startup investor David Hamilton Nichols believes that some of tomorrow’s most innovative and successful companies will arise from the cohort of startups founded and/or grown during the current crisis.

Past economic woes have yielded some of today’s longstanding success stories. The Great Recession saw the building of Airbnb. The Great Depression gave the rise of Disney.

Mr. Nichols believes there are multiple reasons for this.

First is the combination of fewer competitors in the landscape and those who are willing to take the risk to start new businesses in seemingly inopportune times being the ones with incessant drive and creative inspiration to be successful.

Second is that the unmet needs that become apparent during crises and societal shifts are often solved by those businesses.

Mr. Nichols states that this also applies to already established companies. For example, like Disney’s  Mickey Mouse giving smiles to audiences during the Great Depression, so, too, streaming services such as Netflix, which attained its largest number of subscribers ever in 2020, have reaped rewards by entertaining people during the pandemic. Also, Electronic Arts (incidentally another company founded in an economic downturn) saw increased player engagement as people adjusted their entertainment habits due to social distancing.

With his logic of fewer competitors during turmoil and newly apparent needs, Mr. Nichols has more than doubled his startup portfolio during 2020, including innovators in e-commerce and logistics.  Examples of these are his late-seed-stage investments in RageOn, an e-commerce platform offering fast,  environmentally friendly print on demand of a variety of products, and Virtual Control, a Hong Kong-based company adding new dimensions to asset inspection and container tracking by bringing big tech to the logistics industry. E-commerce obviously stands to gain from increased shopping from home during COVID and beyond, and many aspects of logistics are overdue for updated technology.

Mr. Nichols notes that unfortunately small businesses, especially restaurants and shops, have suffered the greatest from the pandemic and that both customers and policymakers need to be mindful of this where possible. However, he also points out that those who can adapt their model may come out stronger in the end and that new ideas and companies will continue to arise and thrive.

So, May 2021 and beyond benefit from the foresight of those business founders and operators who have started a new course or pivoted during 2020. May we also have the insight to know what changes will help our system survive and grow in the coming decade.

Over the last decade, the emergence of sophisticated dental equipment has significantly influenced nearly every aspect of dental care, from diagnostic capabilities to improved patient engagement. But if there’s one recurring theme I see gaining traction this year, it’s balancing investments in cutting-edge technology with thoughtful preventative maintenance.

Too often, practices focus on acquisitions—like new digital scanners or high-end chairs—while sometimes overlooking the day-to-day reliability and upkeep of their existing equipment. It’s this very balance between adopting advanced solutions and diligently caring for current resources that may contribute to improved patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and overall practice success.

The Role of Preventative Maintenance in Modern Dental Practices

From cone beams to handpieces, some of the costliest mistakes I’ve seen aren’t simply about ignoring breakdowns but relying extensively on “reactive” repairs. This approach can potentially disrupt patient schedules, impact care quality, affect revenue, and weaken trust within the practice. In 2025, a growing number of successful practices will likely be those that map out structured, data-driven maintenance schedules. Instead of waiting for the compressor to fail or the sterilizer to produce questionable results, these teams may benefit from periodic performance checks and digital platforms to monitor usage rates.

Additionally, handwritten binder-based “traditional maintenance logs” pose risks for error. The increasingly preferred standard is cloud-based maintenance trackers that log equipment history, flag upcoming service milestones, and automate compliance documentation for inspections. For instance, these platforms could alert a practice manager that a panoramic X-ray unit has reached a manufacturer-recommended calibration threshold. With a quick digital confirmation, the manager can line up a technician visit without sifting through disorganized paperwork.

Advances in Dental Technology and AI Integration

AI’s growing impact on dentistry is poised to reshape both diagnostics and treatment forecasting. Tools from market leaders like Overjet, Videa Health, and Pearl are already being used to detect subtle radiographic changes—such as micro-cavities or early bone loss—that might otherwise go unnoticed. By 2026, we may see even more precise identification of periodontal disease and potential oral cancers, enabling timely interventions and customized care.

However, it’s important to note that without a properly functioning machine that produces high-quality images, these AI models may be less effective. As the adoption of these tools expands, there will likely be a higher standard of maintenance and care expected for the machines these AI solutions rely on. Cone beams and other imaging equipment require maintenance and proper care to ensure consistent performance. If a scanner is uncalibrated, has poor image quality, or fails during a procedure, the AI tools will not perform optimally. Well-maintained equipment is fundamental to the effectiveness of these AI-driven decisions.

Empowering Dental Teams Through Technology

Even the most sophisticated AI or maintenance platform relies on a capable, committed team. In the next few years, it is expected that dental practices will invest more heavily in hands-on education focused on data interpretation, digital tool usage, and ongoing calibration protocols. Everyone—from dental assistants to front-office staff—may need to feel comfortable reading maintenance dashboards, tracking repairs, and handling basic troubleshooting.

As more dental technologies become interconnected, day-to-day workflows will increasingly depend on properly functioning equipment and seamless data transmission. Accordingly, team members may need to adopt a continuous improvement mindset. Routine tasks, like daily sterilizer checks, could become opportunities to capture performance metrics and spot early warning signs before they escalate.

The Future of Patient Experience and Practice Growth

Technological integration extends beyond efficiency gains or eye-catching gadgets. Increasingly, it is about fostering a deeper, more empathetic connection with patients and enhancing their overall experience. There is a clear relationship between the perceived quality of a practice and how well the equipment is maintained. However, there are also more subtle ways that equipment can influence patient perception. When a malfunctioning machine disrupts patient schedules or care, patients may question not only the reliability of the equipment but also the competence of those responsible for it—whether or not this perception is warranted.

Looking toward a connected future, there is potential to improve the patient experience through smart integration. Imagine a world where a smart chair is connected to the practice management software, recognizing the patient about to sit down and the procedure to be performed. The chair could automatically adjust to the optimal configuration for that patient. These types of personalizations may help patients feel truly seen and understood rather than just “processed.”

Today, many patients “shop” for price and convenience. The more value you can make your patients feel—through thoughtfully implemented tools and technologies—the greater the loyalty you may foster. If these tools and solutions can also be learned over time, patients may be less inclined to switch providers and start the process elsewhere.

Aligning Tech and Teamwork

This year, a combination of forward-thinking maintenance and strategic tech integration is poised to shape dentistry’s leading edge. Equipment plays a crucial role in healthcare delivery. Streamlined workflows, more accurate diagnoses, and a deeper sense of trust between patients and providers are already demonstrating significant value in the field. To stay competitive, consider evaluating your technology and current maintenance protocols—identifying gaps, automating tracking, and ensuring equipment remains consistently reliable.

Next, explore AI platforms or digital tools that complement your clinical goals, but remember that technology is only as effective as the equipment it depends on. Simply put, success in this next phase of dentistry will likely be influenced by preparation, personalization, adaptability, and a continuous commitment to excellence.
