Will the New EU Rules Weaken WhatsApp Encryption?

On March 24th, the European Union announced a controversial decision on tech platforms. All massive tech companies with a market value of above €75 billion or over 45 million employees would have to provide services interoperable with smaller platforms.

This deal will presumably affect WhatsApp because of its encryption system. WhatsApp could have a mutual bond with apps like SMS, and SMS is a significantly less secure messaging system. It’s a kind of deal that would bother a lot of users.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) proposes tech giants called “gatekeepers” free up their services and allow smaller companies to compete. This protocol will lead to downloading apps outside the App Store and using different messaging apps for delivering the same messages. The DMA forces “gatekeepers” to decide if they will accept the deal until October this year.

What is end-to-end encryption?

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has emphasized the significance of end-to-end encryption. Itis a communication system that provides privacy between users in a conversation. It keeps malicious entities, hackers, and scammers at bay, preventing them from intercepting messages, exposing IP addresses, or decrypting chats.

That’s how only senders and their recipients can read or modify their messages. With that, the users won’t get any external threats and frauds.

The third-party blocking feature secures encrypted data. It improves the overall experience between users and reduces security risks. End-to-end encryption improves privacy which is necessary for anyone who uses messaging services.

Major inconveniences

WhatsApp, which is a part of Meta, may face some hardships. Experts say that it will be challenging to maintain encryptions between the apps. There’s a chance that the encryption might become reduced or even obsolete. It’s not going to be good for billions of users messaging privately.

There’s not an easy way out concerning encryption maintenance in different apps. The apps can differ in many ways, so the level of encryption is not the same.

If you’re going to merge the two different encryptions, one app or the other will have to undergo massive changes. All these things together make encryption nearly impossible to maintain.

Merging multiple apps

Merging different services could cause stripping down some elements. Some apps could eliminate their features to bind with the other apps. It can lead to one app supporting an interoperable chatting system while others don’t.

The solution by the DMA would be to break down the end-to-end encryption chain and hook fraudsters that receive messages between two systems.

The thought of the possibility that the companies could make similar and easily-mergeable products wouldn’t be a great idea. The interoperability would expose users to experiencing inconveniences by another app.

Of course, if WhatsApp no longer offers end-to-end encryption, there are other options to consider. There are multiple options for using a secure instant messaging application with end-to-end encryption.

How can you secure messaging without WhatsApp’s encryption?

If you want to establish more secure protection, consider using a VPN. A Virtual Private Network is one of the top ways to ensure that your traffic is safe. REVIVE YOURSELF IN JESUS AND AWAKEN YOUR SPIRIT

Too often, we lack work. Maybe we are not forgiving someone, not praying, not crucifying selfishness to care for others, or not sharing the Gospel.

We know this is a severe problem because James said that “faith by itself if it does not have work, is dead” (James 2:17). What’s more challenging than dead faith?

But here’s a danger in how we can interpret this verse. We can miss James’s point. Since faith without work is dead, we can think that we had better start working if we lack work. We had better start praying, start forgiving, start caring more for others, begin sharing the Gospel. But that’s not what James is saying.

James says that since faith without works is dead, then if there are no words, the problem is that our faith is doomed to some extent. And that to correct the problem, there must be something to revive our faith. 

A Heart Without a Pulse

To understand James’s point, imagine he had said that “a heart by itself if it does not have a pulse, is dead.” So, if you have no pulse, what’s the problem? A dead heart. And what should you do to get a beating? Try to revive your spirit.

If you try to make a pulse without reviving your dead heart, you might be able to create what looks like a pulse. But it won’t be a discernible pulse because it won’t come from a living heart.

In the same way, if you try to do works without reviving your dead faith, you might create what looks like work. But they won’t be real works because they won’t come from a living trust in Jesus’s person and work and His provision to be working in your effort.

Abiding and Bearing

Jesu taught the very same truth in John 15. He said every branch that stands in him would bear fruit (John 15:5). So, if we don’t bear fruit, the problem is that we’re not taking, which means the solution isn’t to try to bear fruit; the answer is to start abiding. Fruit comes from abiding. And work comes from a living faith.

But how can faith be restored? Let’s say you don’t share the Gospel since you fear what people might think of you. Then this is lack of work; James would say that cause is dead faith. So how can you recuperate your faith?

Trust His Power

Faith is a supernatural work of God. So, begin by coming to Jesus Christ as you are, and believe His power to change your heart. Have faith in him as your redemption and perfect righteousness. Trust him as your Lord, Savior, and Treasure.

Confess your lack of work. Receive a fresh pledge that you are fully and freely forgiven through Jesus’s death on the cross and by faith unified to the living one who is your righteousness.

Confess that your lack of work shows a lack of sensation in your faith. Ask God to revive, strengthen, and help your confidence.

Find Promises

Then, to strengthen your faith, find which promises from God in the Scriptures you are not trusting. Lack of obedience is caused by not trusting God and His promises. So, think about what commands you are not obeying and what promises from God motivate that obedience.

Here is a promise we often use to battle our fear of sharing the Gospel.

In Luke 6: 22-23, Jesus promises that you will be rewarded in heaven with even more joy in him if you are insulted for his sake. So, if fear of being humiliated keeps you away from telling people about Christ, it’s because you’re not trusting this promise. You’re not counting that God will reward you with more joy in Christ if you’re insulted. Or you are not entrusting that joy in Christ will infinitely make up for the pain of being humiliated. Or both.

That lack of trust is what James means by a dead faith. So how can dead faith be revived?

Feel the difference? 

When the Holy Spirit shows up, your faith is no longer dead. It’s been revived. And your restored faith will make you want to share the Gospel with others because you know that any insults you receive will bring more joy in Christ forever.

We wouldn’t try to create a pulse without reviving the heart. So don’t try to develop miracles without restoring your faith.

How often have we come across people who have turned their thoughts to reality, very rare isn’t it? But a few have broken all barriers and excelled exponentially, as to where their professional careers were concerned. One name which tops amongst such high achievers is that of Bridgette Rivera, who is all of 26 years old, having achieved her goals of locking in a good life for herself. Being raised amidst a neighborhood which was known for its notoriety, it was tough for anyone living under such adverse conditions to make it up in life, but not her. Despite the environment and background from where she came, which doesn’t typically support individuals of her ethnicity to advance in life, she strived to break all rules. Having faced life’s worst hardships and still making it to the top.

It’s amazing to know how she carved her career to reach such optimum levels of success, which can be considered as an impressive feat. At present, she holds a commanding position in a construction management company in Manhattan, KBE-NY. Her story dates to the time when she started off by studying criminal justice at John Jay College, as a 17-year-old freshman and after a while she realized that her interests lied somewhere else. At first, she says she wasn’t sure which career path would best suit her, as she had not planned when she entered the professional sphere, but soon after she quicky knew her “somewhere else” was in business management. That forced her to change her educative track soon after.

All throughout her Sophomore and Junior year in college she was working at Pret A Manger, a UK sandwich shop franchise, working for about 50 – 60 hours a week. “By the time I reached 20, I grew from being a team member to assistant general manager,” says Bridgette who simultaneously went on finishing her junior year in college, while being pregnant at the same time. After her son’s birth, she decided to move on to a more professional work environment rather than working in a fast-paced retail job.

Her first attempt at making the switch to a corporate job, resulted in success. She landed herself a job from Craigslist working for Lettire Construction Corp, a general contractor construction company, as a receptionist. She worked there for three years, gaining experience, and eventually decided to quit her post as an executive office/risk management assistant to secure a higher paying job as a contract administrator, where her work involved being the lead liaison with clients, preparing construction contract documents and budgets before final execution.

Then came the worst phase in everybody’s lives, which is when the global pandemic struck in 2020. She thought of finishing her final year of college via remote learning, but eventually decided to settle her student loans completely. After the pandemic lightened a bit, she aspired to achieve more and gave herself a timeframe to achieve that by the start of 2021, somewhat of a New Year resolution if you will. Fortunately, by June 2021 she got hold of a six-figure salary job, accomplishing her goals well within time. Her grit, determination and self-belief helped her pave a successful career path on which she walks today. Indeed, a true inspiration for many young women and mothers out there who want to accomplish more and who continue striving to reach the top. Prince Hotels has become the first hotel organization to apply for a change of corporate structure in California from a “Profit Corporation” to a “Benefit Corporation,” focusing on the mission of social responsibilities while creating thousands of jobs and growing the economy, creating a positive impact, and meeting full standards of accountability and transparency in the communities in which it operates. Making a profit is not its sole primary goal; the social purpose is to use some of the money for charity and social causes, making a difference to other people’s lives.

Sunil stated, “Our guests have validated our service, culture, and credentials with their enthusiasm, and we are going to give them more reasons to be enthused.” Tolani’s brand, PRINCE, has a brand image of charisma, exclusivity, fascination, enhancement, and sexiness with ethos, boosting the brand’s coolness, credibility, and profitability—the ultimate trifecta. Sunil says, “God put me here to do great things, and what keeps me going is the deep belief I’m serving a purpose that’s greater than myself.”

PRINCE is a prize because it has a name recognition that takes years to build, and the testament to its strength is in its ability to raise prices in each and every competitive market set against formidable competition. There is the huge metamorphosis of the brand, elevating the status of PRINCE, and there is not going to be another PRINCE brand.

NY Weekly Spotlights Dr. Jonathan Kenigson’s Teaching and Research

Dr. Jonathan Kenigson completed his PhD with greatest distinction at the University of Sofia in Bulgaria and went on to complete postdoctoral studies in the dynamics of black holes and combinatorics. 

His current interests lie in representations of Zeta Functions and the relationship between prime numbers and the physics of black holes, relativistic gases, and manifold theory.

He is likely the world’s leading scholar of the Quadrivium (the classical tetrad of Arithmetic, Astronomy, Geometry, Music) and a leading authority on its implementation in curricula worldwide.

Dr. Kenigson is Acting Academic Don of Athanasian Hall, Cambridge Limited – which is a university-independent think-tank based in the United Kingdom. Athanasian Hall is not a teaching institution but rather a pure research institution. As of March 2022, it was the largest faculty of Fellows devoted to Quadrivium studies in the world. It also has the most advanced Statistical Center and classical STEM center in Europe for home-educated students seeking deep knowledge from the Trivium/Quadrivium perspective embraced by classical educators. 

Research at Athanasian Hall spans all disciplines of pure mathematics from the vantage of primary source texts rather than textbooks. Dr. Kenigson is an avowed enemy of paywalls and believes that mathematical research and classical education should be made free for all.

Dr. Kenigson is from Tennessee but is known worldwide as a first-rate expositor of mathematics and is beloved by his students for the immense energy, dedication, and compassion of his instruction. Students from Tennessee (where he teaches) report that Dr. Kenigson fashions each course individually for them. Each course can be hundreds of pages of his carefully compiled lecture notes and problem sheets. His efforts have produced a strong impact on his local community as well as the wider global community.

Kenigson has several philosophical arguments for why he teaches as opposed to doing research full-time, even though he has had numerous offers to do so. His philosophy of “Reasoned Philanthropy” first featured in the London Daily Post is simply the notion that there are better and worse ways to give oneself away to causes of moral importance. Philanthropy is much more than mere donation of money. It should also be conceived as a tool to disseminate intellectual capital to support the causes of greatest concern to the philanthropist. The choice of causes is ultimately existential and subject to the same impossibility of generalizability engendered by G.E. Moore’s Naturalistic Fallacy. Dr. Kenigson cautions that any objective critique of a given act of reasoned philanthropy is likely not analytically decidable in terms of goodness. The impact of the philanthropist on a given campaign also cannot be known objectively because this knowledge would entail epistemic access to the minds of other participants. Statistical analysis can quantify agreed objective metrics of success but cannot decide their moral value. The most profound limitation of mathematics is that it cannot know its own limits.
