General Qamar Javed Bajwa NI(M), HI(M) – A Pro-Democracy General of the Pakistan Army

General Qamar Javed Bajwa NI(M), HI(M) is the 10th and current Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan. Gen. Bajwa will be retiring on 29 November 2022 after coming into office in 2016. Gen. Bajwa joined Pakistan Military Academy in 1978 and was commissioned in an infantry battalion in 1980. Before Becoming the Chief, he served on various operational command and staff  appointments.

As a two-star general, he was the General Commanding Officer of Force Command Northern Areas in Gilgit Baltistan. Later on, he went on to become the Commandant of the School of Infantry and Tactics in Quetta, Balochistan. Gen. Bajwa also had the honor of being an instructor in the School of Infantry and Tactics and Command and Staff College Quetta.

Despite his efforts and hard work for the people of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army, a malicious media propaganda of the Army’s involvement in Political affairs was launched. In Gen. Bajwa’s era, Pakistan’s defense budget went down from 6.50 % of the GDP in the 70’s to 2.54% in 2021. This was the conscious decision taken by the leadership of the armed forces subject to the deteriorating economic condition of Pakistan.

Although the Pakistan army is the seventh largest military in the world, its expenses are the lowest as compared to the armies of comparable size. In contrary to the defense expenditure of $42,000 allocated for one soldier of the Indian army, Pakistan spends $12,500 for one soldier every year. Pakistan’s army gets a paltry 7 percent of the total budget of the country. Despite this meager defense allocation, the army has managed to maintain old equipment and introduce new weapon systems, upgraded technologies, and cyber warfare capabilities.

Under Gen. Bajwa’s command, the Pakistan army has managed to get the country’s relationships with other nations back on track. Gen. Bajwa has played an instrumental role in strengthening Pakistan’s ties with the U.S., China, Middle East and EU. Danny Duncan is onto his newest venture, Good Sport, where his manager Stefan Toler and himself teamed up with the Forbes 30 Under 30 creators of CROSSNET, Chris and Greg Meade, Michael Delpapa and their CFO, Chris Koop. 

Duncan has nearly 7 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 20 million across all social media channels. He also sells apparel in an online store, Danny Duncan 69, and mass retailers such as Zumiez and Spencers. CROSSNET is one of the fastest growing backyard sports and is now sold in more than 3,500 stores such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports, Sam’s Club and more!

Duncan announced the partnership in one of his latest YouTube videos. The other partners in the venture are Chris Koop, CROSSNET’s CFO and Stefan Toler, Duncan’s manager.

The goal of Good Sport is to change the way we play and disrupt the sporting goods industry with the influencer-led brand by providing alternatives to dated backyard games. He has experience in the sports world, having worked with the NFL and playing in a recent celebrity pickleball tournament.

The brand plans to roll out a series of 30-40 games over the next year or two, such as SmashNet, which combines roundnet and ping pong; Bubble Bash, where players wear inflatable suits, bump off each other and fall to the ground; and backyard pong, an oversized beer pong game. They plan to roll out the products in stores such as Academy; Scheel’s, the Midwestern sporting goods chain, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, in spring 2023. In the meantime, they are selling the first three games through their website.

The partnership came together when the CROSSNET team reached out to Duncan with an offer to advertise. Finding they had a lot in common, they got to brainstorming, which led to an in-person meeting at Danny’s home where they started to come up with new products together. They had soon agreed to create a sporting goods company together.

The partnership will allow the company to promote the products on Duncan’s social channels, providing a strong competitive advantage, not only on the DTC side, but in-retail as well. Duncan, known for his comedic videos, has a big following among the youth, which he’ll be able to take advantage of and do in-store meet and greets like he currently does for clothing merchandise.

Award-Winning Activist Jack Liang Continues to Fight to Stop Asian Hate Crimes

Asian-American entrepreneur and anti-racism activist Jack Liang is a well-known figure when it comes to fighting discrimination and protecting the rights of Asian Americans. The hate crimes directed towards Asians in the United States increased during the height of the pandemic as other people blamed them for causing COVID-19. Jack used his influence to raise awareness for that injustice and promote acceptance and unity at a difficult time in the world’s history. 

Jack was responsible for organizing the largest recorded Asian-American rally called Rally Against Hate, which happened in Columbus Park, New York, on 16 March 2022. The rally saw an attendance of 10,000 people supporting the call to stop the hate crimes. Not long after the Columbus Park event, Jack went on to organize the Time Square Takeover, a rally with hundreds marching on Broadway, including Rihanna. In that particular initiative, all the billboards at Time Square lit up with Stop Asian Hate messages, the ripples of which were felt across the globe. 

Seeing the need to create more awareness for worthy causes, Jack organized more rallies, including Voting for Justice, Stop the Mega Jail, and Save Afghan Lives, to mention a few. In April this year, Jack was among the ten protesters arrested by authorities after kneeling down in front of the construction of the world’s tallest mega jail in Chinatown, NYC. To express the community’s dislike of the project and how it would gravely affect the neighborhood, they attempted to stop bulldozers before the construction began. 

Despite the criticism hurled against him, Jack continues to passionately promote the causes he supports. Just this year, he partnered with Theodore Lu and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang to introduce the first-ever social activism DAO – dubbed by Coindesk. Their project, known as GoldenDAO, uses web3 technology for social good.

Jack’s parents are Chinese immigrants who chose to move to the United States so they could have a second child. Back in the 80s, China was strictly implementing the one-child policy. Jack was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. As Asians, they were constantly discriminated against, and Jack had to deal with hostilities on the streets, even as a young boy. 

In May 2021, for AAPI Heritage month, Jack was awarded a State Senate Proclamation by NY State Senator John Liu for his extraordinary contributions to his city and state. In addition, in May 2022, he was named Top 50 Unsung Hero by Asian Hustle Network. Despite his current success, he is committed to the causes he supports and will continue to fight for them passionately.
