UFC Legend St-Pierre Offers To Train Musk for Zuckerberg Fight

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend Georges St-Pierre offered to train Twitter chairman Elon Musk for his fight against Mark Zuckerberg. 

On June 24, St-Pierre sent a tweet to Musk, saying that he was a huge fan and that it would be an “absolute honor” to be his training partner. The SpaceX founder accepted the offer three days later, replying, “Ok, let’s do it.”

This team-up caused quite a stir because it gave Musk a significant edge over the Facebook founder in their fight. St-Pierre is a former welterweight and middleweight champion. He is considered one of the finest fighters to enter the octagon.

It is also the second angle of UFC’s involvement in the potential matchup, with the first being UFC President Dana White’s promotion of the fight.

While most people online think the discussion of the cage fight is just two billionaires having fun with the public, White believes the fight could be the most lucrative match of all time.

In an interview with TMZ, the UFC chief said he talked to the two parties for roughly 90 minutes each, and they were both “dead serious” about the fight. 

He claimed that it could be the most-watched fight in history and that it could be three times bigger than the Mayweather vs. McGregor matchup. This 2017 fight brought in revenue of over $600 million.

White, also UFC’s promoter, believed the Musk-Zuckerberg fight would break all pay-per-view (PPV) records and gross hundreds of millions of dollars. In the interview, he added that the money would go to charity.

The UFC president suggested the fight could happen in Vegas and that the PPV should cost $20 more than what is usually charged for UFC events. Fans who stream sports UFC will have to wait and see which service will stream the event if it ever happens.

Musk vs. Zuckerberg

On June 21, Musk said he was down for a billionaire brawl in reply to a post about Zuckerberg’s new project, which could be a competitor to Twitter.

In response to the challenge, Zuckeburg uploaded an Instagram story, sharing a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the text, “Send me location.”

The Meta CEO trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, employing the help of submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci. He has been honing his mixed martial arts skills over the past year, sharing a clip of his training session with Musumeci online. 

It is also worth mentioning that the 39-year-old won gold and silver medals in a jiu-jitsu competition in May. 

However, Musk is also familiar with the MMA scene. He revealed that he trained in taekwondo, Kyokushin karate, judo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The Tesla architect previously shared a photo of himself going against a sumo wrestler in a match.

On Tuesday, he tweeted that he did a “practice round” with Lex Fridman, who said he was impressed with the 51-year-old’s strength, skill, and power on the feet and the ground.

Now, Musk plans to increase his chances of beating Zuckerberg in the octagon with the help of UFC legend St-Pierre.

Two-division UFC Champion Georges St-Pierre

Regarded by many sports fans as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, Georges St. Pierre, or GSP, is one of the most dominant Welterweight champions in the UFC’s history. He successfully won titles in the middleweight and welterweight divisions.

However, St-Pierre managed to get his revenge on both fighters. Two years after his loss to Hughes, GSP beat him to secure his first title under the UFC banner. Meanwhile, he avenged his defeat against Serra a year after their first match. 

St-Pierre never lost another fight, and he announced his retirement in 2019. He retired with a 26-2-0 UFC record.
