New York City has long been a hub for artistic expression, and emerging artist Jordan Barker is making waves in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District with his latest painting, “Breezin’.” Jordan’s innovative collaboration with The Box Store by Flatrate Moving is turning heads and inspiring creativity as he reimagines cardboard in an entirely new light. Using only his hands and a cardboard box as his brush, Jordan masterfully blends colors and textures to create a stunning representation of the warm ocean air and the sensation of the sun-kissed waves.
“In a world flooded with cardboard boxes and an ever-increasing stream of shipments, I became acutely aware of the mountains of cardboard that surround us. It struck me that we are not just consumers; we are stewards of our planet. In my pursuit of sustainability, I found an opportunity to breathe life into what’s often discarded. With my hands and imagination, I transformed cardboard from a shipping vessel into a functional tool—a testament to the power of reimagining, recycling, and reinventing,” said Jordan Barker.
“Breezin’” is more than just an extraordinary painting. It draws attention to the importance of recycling cardboard, not just for the environment but also for the potential it holds as a creative medium. It encourages us to look at everyday materials with fresh eyes and consider their potential beyond their intended use while simultaneously highlighting the importance of sustainability and recycling.
“Cardboard is a versatile and readily available resource, making it an excellent choice for sustainable art,” Alberto Hernandez, Director of Stores at Flatrate Moving, said in a statement. “Through his work, Jordan reminds us that we can find art in unexpected places and that our environmental responsibility can be intertwined with our artistic expression.”
As Jordan continues to make his mark in the New York art scene, it will be exciting to see where his creative journey takes him next and how he continues to redefine the boundaries of artistic expression.
The window display, along with additional works on the interior of the store, can be seen through November 30, 2023, at The Box Store, located at 936 Broadway (22nd & Broadway).
