Life has a way of redirecting people toward their true calling, often through circumstances they never expected. For Lisa J. Crawford, founder and CEO of LJC Motivations, that defining redirection came in 2016 when she unexpectedly lost the job she had held for 12 years.
Although the experience initially felt devastating, it also brought an unexpected sense of freedom. Looking back, Crawford believes that if the company had not chosen a different direction, she might have remained in an environment where she felt undervalued and discouraged. Walking away became the first step toward discovering a greater purpose.
That freedom was soon tested. Within a matter of months, Crawford faced eviction, lost her vehicle to repossession, and found herself living in hotels as she searched for a new path forward. Rather than allowing those hardships to define her future, she embraced an opportunity that completely changed the trajectory of her life.
After being introduced to the role of a Lease-Up Agent at apartment communities, Crawford chose to start over in an entirely new industry. That decision ultimately became the foundation for a career centered on building relationships, serving others, and creating meaningful human connections.
Today, Crawford credits that difficult season with helping her discover her life’s purpose. Through LJC Motivations, she now dedicates her work to inspiring others, strengthening workplace cultures, and encouraging people to lead with compassion, kindness, and authenticity.
Turning Adversity Into Purpose
Helping others has been the common thread throughout Crawford’s career.
With more than two decades of experience as a motivational speaker, life coach, hospitality consultant, and community leader, she has consistently believed that genuine relationships are the foundation of both personal and professional success. Whether speaking to organizations, mentoring professionals, or consulting within the hospitality industry, her mission has remained the same: elevate people by making them feel seen, valued, and respected.
That philosophy took on an even deeper meaning in 2025 when Crawford stepped away from years of extensive travel to become the full-time caregiver for her 91-year-old mother.
Serving as her mother’s caregiver became one of the most rewarding and emotionally demanding experiences of her life. The journey was filled with moments of joy, laughter, and gratitude, but it also brought the heartbreak of watching a loved one struggle through pain and declining health.
Some days, communication came easily. Other days required patience, intuition, and unwavering compassion as Crawford navigated uncertainty while providing around-the-clock care.
Having spent years traveling the country, experiencing exceptional hospitality, and building friendships across the industry, she suddenly found herself in a season defined by sacrifice and service within her own home. Rather than viewing caregiving as an interruption to her purpose, she came to see it as the purest expression of hospitality she had ever practiced.

Finding Strength in Simplicity
Years of serving clients, colleagues, communities, and family have taught Crawford that resilience requires intentional restoration.
Rather than seeking elaborate escapes, she finds renewal in life’s simplest gifts.
Watching a sunset.
Standing beside the ocean or any body of water.
Writing.
Photography.
Meaningful conversations.
Helping another person.
For Crawford, these quiet moments provide the emotional and spiritual renewal necessary to continue serving others with authenticity. She believes that the greatest sources of restoration cannot be purchased, but instead are found through nature, reflection, genuine relationships, and acts of kindness.
A Leadership Philosophy Rooted in Respect
Throughout her career, Crawford has observed that one of the greatest challenges facing workplaces today is not a lack of talent, but a lack of respect.
Her message to leaders is straightforward yet deeply meaningful: every person deserves dignity, regardless of their position, title, or financial status.
She believes that leaders have a responsibility to create environments where people feel appreciated, heard, and genuinely cared for. Kindness, in her view, is not a weakness but one of the strongest forms of leadership.
Although Crawford openly acknowledges surviving many painful experiences throughout her life, she refuses to allow those hardships to define her identity.
Instead, she believes every challenge carries an opportunity for growth and a responsibility to help someone else facing similar circumstances. Rather than living inside grief or disappointment, she chooses to transform difficult experiences into lessons that encourage healing, resilience, and hope.
