Authentic, unapologetic, relentless … These are all the traits Janna Johnson chose to tap into so she could move past a life of trauma and limiting beliefs. And now, is sharing her story with the world.
Janna Johnson’s new book, Unf*ck Your Mind: Shatter Your Limiting Beliefs to Become Who You Were Meant to Be hit shelves in early 2024, and was immediately met with 5-star reviews from readers who embarked on similar transformative journeys, and looked to Johnson for inspiration to embrace the power within.
“I felt like Janna was speaking right into my soul,” said one reader. “Her raw authenticity and crystal transparency makes you feel like you are connecting with your best friend … empowered to make moves for your life you desperately desire.”
The Author, Mindset Expert, Nutritionist, and host of the Revive with Janna podcast claims her own revival is down to ‘getting out of her own way,’ i.e. shattering the limiting beliefs she held over herself, which enabled her to “break the chains” that set her free. “Most people live their lives being held back {by their limiting beliefs},” the Austin, Texas-born Johnson begins, “which they don’t even realize. It was the same for me.” Johnson points out that limiting beliefs are formed in childhood, but it’s not until many people reach their late 20s or early 30s until they realize they’re becoming stuck. When they do, it’s often in the form of a physical illness that’s metastasized!
This is exactly what happened to Johnson.
“In 2013 I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease,” she shares. “I had to learn how to be my own advocate and wellness warrior. Not only did I have to change how I ate but also the thoughts I chose.” But this wasn’t before she sought a quick, painful exit on the 360 bridge in downtown Austin. “The symptoms had become so severe that I didn’t want to live anymore, I was trapped in my own personal hell,” she reflects. “It {the disease} had gotten to the point where I failed to remember my own kids’ names!”
That day on the overpass ended up becoming one of many turning points in her life where she experienced a mindset shift that changed the course of her life for the better. “It’d been almost two years since the initial rash that was soon to be discovered as Lyme. I ended up driving home, praying to God for me to be a symbol of hope for others … and somehow – I guess by divine intervention – my prayers were answered. That ended up being the day I looked in the mirror and told myself that Lyme Disease wasn’t going to continue taking over my life.”
Using a simple linguistic pivot, Johnson replaced terms like “not well enough,” with “abundant,” and “healthy,” and demanded the illness ‘get out of her body.’”
But learning how to love herself wasn’t easy with the trauma she’d stored up since childhood.
“My limiting beliefs had to do with never feeling good enough, never feeling approved of, or loved,” she courageously admits. “I could win a whole damn tennis tournament and still be told what I could have done better.” Chronicling her story in the book, Johnson admits to “suffering the consequences” of the actions of others, which included toxic relationships, suicidal tendencies, and multiple eating disorders. “I associated weight with looking good, and in fact suffered my first eating disorder when I was only 11.”

Making the wrong choices as a means to fill a void with quicksand, the spark of sadness soon exacerbated into flames. Betrayed by her husband of 14 years, she took the brave stand to rise like a phoenix through the fire and go after her dreams. “That was the beginning of my mindset shift and shattering the limiting beliefs. It was f***ing exhilarating. I was scared sh*tless. But I was tired of living with fear for 40+ years.”
With her mantra of “heal your gut, heal your brain, heal your body, heal your mind, free your life,” Johnson set out to help others by removing the labels from their consciousness and replacing them with positive affirmations. “People walk around with these negative labels society creates for us,” she starts. “So now people think of themselves as ‘insecure,’ ‘not enough,’ ‘not approved of,’ etc. I’m a very visual person so I describe things in a way where people can replace that negativity with ‘I am good enough,’ ‘I am beautiful,’ ‘I am smart,’ ‘I am capable,’ and so on.”
By shifting their thought process ever so slightly, Johnson’s clients are now set for success to step into the greatness that was provided to them from birth. “They were too f***ing scared to go after it,” she says. “That person who is sick and tired of not being their true, authentic self, tired of living their life to appease or gain someone else’s approval, those are the people I tell that they’re living life the wrong way.”
With Unf*ck Your Mind, a “form of service” for people, Johnson’s inspiring narrative can be used as a guide to getting to the root cause of your limitations and ultimately releasing the trapped emotions.
“I think you’ll be very surprised,” she beams. “I believe it’ll ignite a fire in readers as well. At least that’s the feedback I’m getting.”
Janna Johnson decided to uncover the aspects of her inner being that were holding her back, choosing to overcome adversity, heal, move forward, and walk through the f***ing fire. She loves to swear and is unapologetic about it. Johnson is now free.
“Let the fires burn everything off of you that no longer serves you well,” she concludes.
