Immanuel’s helped students prepare for Oxford and Cambridge examinations to achieve top grades.
As exams approach, students may feel a little panicky. It is not uncommon for them to feel the stress of school weighing them down. The panic forces many into self-destructive behaviour, such as forgetting everything learned during previous months. This can make these final weeks before exams seem even more daunting and stressful.
Students can practise simple habits to centre themselves and prepare efficiently for their exams. With a bit of prep and a well-thought-out revision timeline, you can achieve the grades you deserve. Try the following guidelines for a clearer and calmer mind.
Create A Study Plan
Writing your plan on a piece of paper would help you work out the tasks at hand, the timeline, and the tasks you have to deliver. It helps you keep your tasks on track to study for exams.
Start with the latest edition of your subject’s syllabus and carefully review the points, marking the ones you complete. For the remaining points, manage a chapter at a time. For instance, maybe you want to finish one topic over the next three days; pay attention to that. Following this strategy will help you stay on track to study for the exams efficaciously.
Increase The Use Of Mark Schemes
Mark schemes are helpful in exam preparations because they list the brief points that examiners search for when grading a paper. The ideal way to use mark schemes is to read the question in hand, outline the answer on paper or in the head, and then look at the mark scheme open to check whether you’re right. Even if you do get the answer correct, you can take a look at other correct answers, enhancing your knowledge.
Create Cheat Sheets
Cheat sheets are the best prep guides you’ll ever make. Grab a pen and a paper and start with a single chapter. Jot down definitions, concepts, answering techniques, and every piece of important knowledge you can learn from that chapter.
Write concisely with no irrelevant information. Making cheat sheets assists you in revising the entire syllabus and comes in useful for last-minute exam preparation.
Avoid Being Restricted To A Sole Source
The internet is unquestionably the most enriched education resource in the world. All you need to do is Google a question, and you instantly get the results. You can post the question on Instagram or WhatsApp your teacher and have a solution in minutes. Of course, you have to study the classic textbooks, but in case you’re struggling, look elsewhere for answers.
Some Revision Tips
It is best to schedule revision for the most productive times during the day. If you feel alert in the morning, make sure you study it early around that time. It would help if you also tried to:
- Focus on exams making up a bulky percentage of a subject’s grade
- Reward yourself: relax and refresh your mind by taking regular breaks
- Ask friends and family to quiz you
- Sit past papers to familiarize yourself with questions and timings
- Avail study tools to revise such as books, online video summaries, and audio guides
