The Cody Chris Collection, Defining the Future of Fashion

Authored by Digital Nod

Fashion has been an expression of humans since ancient times and has developed into what we call the fashion industry today. However, starting today, it would be safe to say that the industry is no longer ruled by elitist brands based solely in Paris, London, and New York.

Rather now fashion houses are challenged with a technological boom and with that, brings in “purposely-driven” clothing brands that are dominating similar markets all over the world today. One such brand redefining the future of fashion is the Cody Chris Collection with their enduring runway fashions and Cyberpunk infused approach.

To start the Cody Chris Collection, was founded with the mission of “Designing quality fashions for everyday superstars” and has been solely committed to the idea of “acceptance” through the clothes they create!

A bit about the founder

Before I talk more about the brand, I would like to shed some light on its founder, Cody Christopher Matthieu.

The brand, its mission, and the fashion it promotes have a lot to relate with Cody’s life. Officially launched in June 2018 at Phoenix Fashion Week. Cody was chosen as one of 12-designers to participate in an annual fashion Bootcamp and was to debut a fully cataloged collection by that same October of that year!

He spent 3-years prior building brands and applying to participate in it. This opportunity shaped his brand and challenged him to build a strong localized foundation.

I would like to quote his words to give you a small idea of his journey, “We grew as a family and helped me to think realistically. During this time in my life, I had no job and lived many days with only the change in my pocket. I think what did it for me was the day I pawned all my jewelry to buy more fabric.”

Cody’s relationship with fashion

Cody has gone from “influenced by fashion” to “influencing fashion” since then and has found new meaning to his own creations.

The Cody Chris Collection is a testament to our current social climate and finds that the solution to many of today’s problems would be just to understand creative people overall.

As a millennial, he fundamentally believes that it’s almost the responsibility of his generation to fix what went wrong with fashion. Fashion, especially “high-end fashion,” which has somewhat created a cold and false narrative that distances us, humans, from accepting each other within shared or diverse communities.

Introduction of the neo-kitsch aesthetic

I have a quote  by Cody to give you an idea of what the brand is trying to answer: “In the same way that baroque became rococo, is it possible for kitsch to develop into a more elaborate yet more sophisticated neo-kitsch?” He loves the rococo era in an ironically comical sense and style.

Cyberpunk 2077 (the game) visualizes potential situational outcomes based on social events and how you (the player) is faced to press forward. The Cody Chris Collection is attempting to bring this concept to life and acts similar to the North Star leading the path as a way to adapt.

The Cody Chris Collection’s vision of the future of fashion and gives us (the audience) a choice to participate in the change.
