Why Miggo Security Believes “Known Exploited” Isn’t Enough: Why Many Exploits Never Make It to Security Teams

For years, cybersecurity strategy has revolved around a central belief: if organizations can identify which software vulnerabilities are being exploited in the wild, they can prioritize those weaknesses and reduce risk. Budgets, SLAs, and compliance frameworks were built on that logic. It worked when exploitation was slow, manual, and traceable.

It doesn’t work anymore.

Modern software is built on open source code. According to the 2025 Open Source Security and Risk Analysis report, 97% of applications now use open source components, with approximately 70% of the average codebase coming from them, and more than 900 components per application.

Open source accelerates development, but also multiplies the number of vulnerabilities that enter production environments without ever being written by internal teams.

The cybersecurity world’s trusted filter for real-world threat activity has been the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) list. When KEV confirms a vulnerability has been exploited, organizations prioritize it. The model is clear: verification before urgency.

Miggo Security’s new white paper argues that this system, although well-intentioned, now hides more danger than it reveals.

Revealing a Dangerous Blind Spot

To test the reliability of KEV as a source of defensive prioritization, Miggo analyzed more than 24,000 open-source vulnerabilities from the GitHub Security Advisory (GHSA) database across ecosystems, including npm, PyPI, Maven, and RubyGems. From that dataset, the research identified 572 vulnerabilities that contained at least one GitHub-hosted exploit repository.

Only 69 of those 572 (just 12%) appear in the KEV catalog.

The details are even more striking. Four hundred seven were weaponized or functional exploits, but KEV reflected only 68; 165 were proof-of-concept exploits, but KEV reflected just one.

In other words, attackers have access to working exploit code for nearly nine out of ten vulnerabilities that most organizations would consider “not yet dangerous.”

The gap exists not because KEV is inaccurate but because KEV is confirmation-based. A vulnerability only enters KEV after exploitation has been proven. However, attackers don’t wait for validation; they leverage the exploit code the moment it is published.

This gap is exploding because AI is compressing the timeline of exploitation. According to the white paper, attackers can now weaponize vulnerabilities within minutes of disclosure, outpacing both the verification cycle and the traditional patching window.

Why Miggo Built a Predictive Vulnerability Database

Because verification cannot keep pace, Miggo maintains an independent Predictive Vulnerability Database (PVD) that continuously aggregates and classifies vulnerabilities and exploits across multiple public ecosystems, not just those appearing in KEV.

The PVD tracks not only vulnerability disclosures but also their exploitability, exploit links, exploit type, and relevance per application context. It also incorporates runtime intelligence to determine which vulnerabilities are reachable inside the customer’s software, separating theoretical risk from attack reality.

The white paper emphasizes that the PVD is not intended to replace KEV but to solve what KEV cannot: insight into vulnerabilities that are exploitable right now rather than confirmed later.

Defense Must Happen Inside the Runtime

Miggo’s report shows that even if security teams tracked every CVE and every KEV entry, the speed of AI-driven exploitation still makes legacy workflows reactive. Patching simply cannot out-run automated exploitation.

To close that window, Miggo advocates proactive runtime defense, combining runtime visibility, exploit reachability analysis, and AI-generated virtual patching. Instead of waiting for a patch or a KEV listing, runtime defense determines if a vulnerability can be exploited inside the live application and blocks the attack path instantly. This reduces the mean time to mitigation from weeks or months to seconds, allowing teams to fix securely rather than respond under pressure from an active attack.

The Metric That Matters is “Stopped Exploits”

KEV isn’t wrong. It’s just too slow for an era in which exploitation is automated. A vital statistic in the Miggo report isn’t that KEV misses 88% of vulnerabilities with known exploits. It’s what that statistic reveals: offense has begun operating faster than the entire ecosystem built to defend against it.

The future of software security will not be defined by how quickly vulnerabilities are cataloged.

It will be defined by how little time attackers have before their exploit attempts are neutralized.

And that begins not with lists, but with runtime.

Photographer and director Jasper Soloff has built a career out of turning movement and color into emotion. His work has appeared in Vogue, GQ, Paper, and Dazed, and he’s created campaigns for major brands like Fenty Beauty, Maybelline’s “Press Play” with Gigi Hadid, and Amazon Fashion. He’s worked with icons like Billie Eilish, Billy Porter, and Emma Chamberlain — and more recently stepped into directing with his upcoming documentary following Broadway star Sam Pauly and her journey in The Great Gatsby. Through it all, Soloff’s focus has stayed consistent: celebrating queer joy, individuality, and the beauty of being real.

We caught up with Jasper to talk about how his dance background shapes his work, what it feels like to see his images in Times Square, and how he turns authenticity into art.

Q. You started out as a ballet dancer — that’s such a different world. How did that lead to photography?

Dance was my first language. I trained up to twelve hours a day, homeschooling so I could focus on it. Everything was about form, control, and emotion through movement. That obsession with how bodies move stayed with me — it’s still how I see the world. When I picked up a camera for the first time, it just clicked. I realized I could choreograph with light instead of steps.

Q. When did you realize photography was more than just a hobby?

In college. I took this black-and-white film photography class at Sarah Lawrence, and I became completely hooked. I’d spend hours in the darkroom, just watching images appear out of nothing. It felt like magic. Then, when I went to Central Saint Martins in London, I found color — literally. I started using it to express identity and emotion, and that became my thing. Bright, saturated, a little rebellious.

Q. Your work has such a signature look — so full of movement and color. How do you think your dance background influences that?

I don’t think I ever stopped being a dancer. Even when I’m shooting something still, I’m thinking in terms of rhythm, tension, and release. I see color as another form of movement — it’s emotional. It shifts the energy of an image. I guess I’ve just always wanted my photos to move, even if nothing in them literally is.

Q. You’ve worked with huge names — Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish, Billy Porter — and shot campaigns for brands like Fenty and Maybelline. Do you ever have those “wait, how did I get here?” moments?

I still have those moments. I still get nervous before big shoots. I remember walking through Times Square as a kid, staring at the billboards and thinking how crazy it would be to see my work up there one day. When it finally happened, I honestly cried. It felt like this moment of, “Oh, I can take who I really am — my identity, my weirdness — and it can exist on that kind of scale.”

Q. Your queer identity is a big part of your work. How do you bring that into what you create?

It’s everything. Being queer shaped how I see beauty, intimacy, and strength. My work is about creating space for people who don’t always see themselves represented — and doing it joyfully. I love photographing queer artists, drag performers, and anyone who’s unafraid to take up space. It’s about visibility, but also about joy. Joy is a powerful force.

Q. What’s a typical Jasper Soloff shoot like?

Controlled chaos. (laughs) I love collaboration. I want my sets to feel safe, fun, and full of trust. Some of my favorite photos happened by accident. Early on, I used to shoot with my queer friends on rooftops in Brooklyn, totally spontaneous. Once, I was shooting Symone, and this disco ball started bouncing light all over her face — it was perfect. That kind of magic is hard to plan for. You just have to stay open to it.

Q. Have there been moments where you’ve had to really assert yourself as a director?

Definitely, early on, a producer once mistook me for a production assistant — like, handed me coffee and walked away. (laughs) It stung, but it also reminded me to take up space confidently. A lot of this job is believing in your own vision, even when people don’t see it right away. Once I started owning that, things shifted.

Q. You’ve done so much already — fashion, photography, commercials. What’s next for you?

Directing more film and music-based projects. I just finished my first documentary following Sam Pauly and her Broadway journey in The Great Gatsby, which I’m really proud of. It’s kind of my first step into storytelling that moves beyond still images. I’d love to direct a full-on musical someday — something wild and queer and emotional, like Cabaret meets Euphoria.

Q. If you could give advice to your younger self, the kid spending hours in ballet class, what would you say?

I’d tell him to relax. (laughs) To stop worrying about being perfect. The things that make you different are what make your art powerful. And that authenticity — that’s what people connect with.

Women, especially, tend to carry the emotional weight of everyone around them. They are the listeners, the comforters, the ones who hold space but rarely receive it. That constant giving can take a toll.

Erin Snow saw this pattern long before she founded Seacoast Listening Lounge. During her sixteen years as a legal advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, she learned how devastating it can be when someone’s voice goes unheard. Silence doesn’t always bring peace. Sometimes it deepens the pain.

Through that experience, Erin realized that listening itself can be healing. For Maya Tannous, the line between “student” and “professional” has largely disappeared. The French actress, who began her journey at the New York Film Academy, now spends her days immersed in auditions, sets, and creative collaborations that remind her she’s truly where she’s meant to be.

“In school, you learn how to do it, how to reach it, and everyone warns you about the struggle,” Maya reflects. “But now I’m in it. I’m doing the work. I’m submitting, booking, performing. I’ve stepped into the reality we used to prepare for.”

What once felt like the safety of guaranteed school roles has evolved into the exciting unpredictability of real-world artistry. “As a student, you always know there’s a role waiting for you,” she says. “Now, every opportunity is something I’ve earned on my own. There’s a thrill in that uncertainty; it means I’m living as a professional.”

The shift required a new rhythm. “I used to be the classic procrastinator,” Maya laughs. “But now, when I get an audition notice, I organize the self-tape right away.
