“The allure of having a more substantial say in which projects, or parts of projects, come to fruition is compelling,” she said. “You can partake in the decision-making process from the very beginning, which allows for one to make design choices with broader strategic goals.”

This career shift has enabled Hajir to challenge the notion that there’s only one ‘right’ path in our field. “While licensure and studio progression are valuable, they’re not the only routes to making a meaningful impact,” she said. “By stepping into design management, I’ve found a role that satisfies my creative instincts and feeds my curiosity about the business side of architecture. This move has allowed me to explore the full spectrum of what goes into creating and maintaining successful spaces. It’s a path that continually challenges me to grow, learn, and adapt – exactly the kind of dynamic career I’ve always envisioned for myself.”

Creativity plays a central role in her work as well. “Creative direction is at the heart of my role because it weaves together all aspects of a project,” Hajir explained. “I’m not just designing; I’m orchestrating a vision that spans multiple disciplines.”

Pure gold naturally occurs as a shiny, malleable metal with a reddish-yellow hue. It is one of the most precious metals used in currency, jewelry, arts, and various industries.

Gold used in jewelry is not pure 24-karat gold. Instead, it is a mixture of gold with other metals to make it strong and durable. Gold can be mixed with silver, copper, zinc, palladium, and nickel to create different gold colors. The most common gold colors are yellow, white, and pink, but gold can also be found in green and gray.

Common Gold Colors:

Yellow Gold

Yellow gold is one of the most popular and commonly used colors in jewelry, prized for its rich and shiny appearance. Jewelry cannot be made from pure 24-karat yellow gold due to its softness. Instead, yellow gold is mixed with other metals to achieve the desired color and durability.

Depending on the proportion of these metals, different types of yellow gold are produced:

  • 24-Karat Yellow Gold
  • 22-Karat Yellow Gold

White Gold

  • 18-Karat Pink Gold: 75% gold, 20% copper, 5% silver.

Green Gold

Green gold (or Electrum) is a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver, and sometimes copper. Silver gives the gold alloy a yellowish-green appearance rather than a green color. To achieve green, cadmium is mixed with gold alloys, but it is not commonly used due to cadmium’s high toxicity and potential health risks. A mix of 75% gold, 15% silver, 6% copper, and 4% cadmium produces a dark green alloy.

Gray Gold

Gray gold is usually made from gold mixed with palladium and generally comes in 18-karat. It can also be produced more cheaply by adding silver, manganese, and copper to gold in specific proportions.

Is There a Price Difference for Colored Gold?

The price difference depends on the purity of the gold. For example, 22- or 21-karat yellow gold is more expensive than 18-karat yellow gold because it contains a higher percentage of gold. Therefore, 18-karat yellow gold is priced the same as 18-karat red gold since you are getting the same amount of gold, and the gold content determines the price.

An exception to this rule is white gold. Palladium mixed with white gold is part of the platinum family and is more expensive than silver and copper. As a result, white gold is generally slightly more expensive than yellow or red gold. Additionally, there is often an extra cost for rhodium plating the final jewelry piece.

Today, we are honored to invite Mr. Chunhua Li, who has accumulated 20 years of rich experience in strategic management, equity investment, and fund management. From a Master’s degree in Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology to a senior executive position at Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited, his career is filled with successful investment cases and strategic decisions. Let’s hear his story.

Interviewer: Mr. Li, you obtained a Master’s degree in Energy Power Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. How did your career transition into investment and management?

Chunhua Li: My career began at Beijing Engineering Consulting Company, where I was primarily responsible for investment consulting and development planning. There, I had the opportunity to engage with various investment projects, including those in energy and environmental protection. This experience made me realize the importance of strategic management and asset allocation in investments. Later, I joined Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited, focusing on strategic investment and asset management, which laid a solid foundation for my subsequent career development.

Interviewer: Over your 20-year career, you have been involved in several major investment projects. Could you share some impressive cases and their challenges?

Chunhua Li: Several projects stand out in my memory. For example, the Kexi coal-to-gas project, one of the world’s largest coal chemical investment projects. When the project exceeded the budget to 35.1 billion RMB, I conducted in-depth analysis and judgment, saving the company hundreds of billions in losses. Another example is the equity acquisition project of the South Line and North Line highways at Capital Airport, where my investment recommendations successfully avoided losses of several billion RMB. The challenges in these projects not only stemmed from their inherent complexity but also from the need to continue advancing after board decisions and overcoming various obstacles.

Interviewer: You have mentioned the importance of analyzing industry growth potential from a strategic perspective. Could you elaborate on this?

Chunhua Li: Analyzing industry growth potential from a strategic perspective is central to investment decision-making. We need to thoroughly understand industry development trends, potential profit models, and overall valuation levels. Through these analyses, we can formulate reasonable asset allocation strategies. For example, when investing in new energy projects, we consider changes in market demand, policy support, and technological advancements to develop medium- to long-term investment strategies, ensuring the long-term value of the investment.

Interviewer: During your time as a senior executive in the Strategic Investment Department at Beijing Enterprises Group, you were responsible for asset allocation and market value management. What do you think are the key factors for success in this area?

Chunhua Li: The key to success lies in meticulous management and forward-looking analysis. In asset allocation, we analyze asset categories, markets, and regions to devise the best investment strategies. Meanwhile, in market value management, we make dynamic adjustments based on market conditions, including repurchasing during undervaluation periods and reducing holdings during overvaluation periods. Ensuring each investment is made at the most appropriate time maximizes investment returns.

Interviewer: You also have extensive experience in equity investment. Could you share some innovative practices and experiences in this area?

Chunhua Li: In equity investment, we focus on full lifecycle management. From preliminary feasibility studies and due diligence to project management, every step is crucial. For instance, when investing in traditional and new energy projects, we conduct thorough research and due diligence to ensure long-term returns. We also participate in significant decisions of the invested companies to enhance their profitability, ensuring the success of the investment.

Interviewer: Throughout your career, you have also been responsible for several important strategic studies. How do you think these studies impact the group’s decisions?

Chunhua Li: Strategic studies form the foundation of decision-making. We research domestic and international peer companies, industry trends, and policy changes to provide a basis for the group’s strategic investments. These studies not only help us formulate long-term strategic plans but also enable timely adjustments in response to market changes. For example, our research results provided crucial decision support during the formulation of the “12th Five-Year” and “13th Five-Year” strategic plans.

Interviewer: What are your plans and goals for future career development? Are there any areas where you hope to make breakthroughs?

Chunhua Li: In the future, I hope to continue in-depth research in strategic investment and equity management and explore more innovative investment methods. I plan to stay focused on emerging industry trends and seek more potential investment opportunities. Additionally, I aim to achieve more breakthroughs in team management and strategic implementation, enhancing the overall capability and execution of the team.
