-I think what sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to understand each client’s unique style and personality. I don’t just impose my own vision on them, but rather work with them to create a look that they feel comfortable and confident in. I also try to stay on top of the latest trends and styles, but I always keep my clients’ individuality in mind.

-That’s definitely an important quality for a stylist. Can you tell us about some of the most memorable clients you’ve worked with?

-Sure, I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing people. One of the most memorable experiences was styling a photoshoot for a major fashion magazine with a famous supermodel. It was a challenging project, but also incredibly rewarding to see the final result. I’ve also worked with some up-and-coming designers and helped them create looks for their runway shows, which was really exciting.

-What are your achievements that particularly make you happy and inspire you?

As a model and stylist, I was thrilled to receive a publication in the American magazine SELIN. It was an incredible experience to see my work showcased in such a prestigious publication. As a model, I was honored to have my unique style and look recognized by the magazine’s editorial team. As a stylist, it was rewarding to see my vision come to life and to know that my work was appreciated by others in the industry. Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity and I’m grateful for the chance to have been a part of it.

-What are your plans for the future, say for the next 5 years?

-In the next 5 years, I have several goals and plans that I’m working towards. As a model, I hope to continue expanding my portfolio and working with more diverse clients and brands. I also want to focus on improving my skills and versatility, so that I can take on a wider range of projects and roles.

As a stylist, I’m hoping to grow my business and work with more high-profile clients and publications. I want to continue refining my vision and style, while also staying up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in the industry.

In addition, I’m also considering pursuing some new ventures and opportunities. For example, I’m interested in exploring the world of fashion blogging and social media, and using these platforms to share my work and connect with new audiences.

Overall, I’m excited about the possibilities that the future holds, and I’m committed to working hard and staying focused on my goals.

I’m also currently training to become a women’s coach, and I want to transform women not only on the outside, but also on the inside. I want every woman, regardless of her age, to feel feminine, desired, loved, and to have a beloved job that brings her a good income, so that all women can feel satisfaction from life and understand that we only have one life and need to cherish and get the most enjoyment from it every day! I also believe that every woman is like a flower, she just needs to bloom and have the opportunity to find a connection between her outer and inner self.

-What makes you unique?

-My uniqueness lies in the fact that my first degree is in economics. I know how to spend money wisely, and I prefer to create looks for my clients that span across mid-range and luxury segments. I know where to find discounts and good deals, and I have contracts and promo codes with many brands and outlets. I always pay special attention to accessories and shoes, and I believe that these items are investments in every woman’s wardrobe.

-That sounds like an amazing experience. What advice do you have for aspiring stylists who are just starting out in the industry?

-My advice would be to stay true to yourself and your vision, but also be open to learning from others and collaborating with different people. Networking is also really important in this industry, so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and make connections. And most importantly, always work hard and stay passionate about what you do.

During summer breaks, he supplemented his studies with advertising packaging training in China, honing his technical skills and expanding his creative repertoire.  

Max embarked on a freelance career with his newfound knowledge and creative passion. His unique style and dedication caught the attention of influential figures in the music, tech, and gaming industries. Max began working with renowned artists in the North American EDM scene, where he found the creative freedom he had longed for. Collaborating with these artists allowed Max to express his creativity and establish his unique visual style.  

Max’s passion for digital art is deeply intertwined with his love for anime and the fantastical worlds it presents. Drawing inspiration from the poem in the anime series “Fate/stay the Night,” Max sees parallels between the verse and his creative process. The metaphorical language of the poetry resonates with his core ideas, representing the hard work, passion, and limitless imagination that fuel his artistry. Through his digital creations, Max seeks to capture the essence of dreams and translate them into real works of art. 

Driven by his fascination with dreams and creativity, Max embarked on an ambitious AI project called “DreamRender.” DreamRender aims to transform fleeting dreams into tangible works of art, utilizing advanced AI technology. What’s your background and how did that inspire you to create? 

As a city boy from Shanghai, landing in remote Yarmouth, Nova Scotia as one of the five Chinese students was a cultural shock. The language and cultural gap was scary. But, these hurdles triggered self-reflection, leading me to discover my passion for visual art, initially through photography. 

At the University of Western Ontario, I pursued media studies but found the curriculum lacking technical skills. So, I taught myself digital art and supplemented it with advertising training in China. However, the commercial industry’s penchant for repetitive content disappointed me post-graduation. I wanted to create unique visual styles, not cookie-cutter content. 

So, I started freelancing, finding my niche at the music, tech, and gaming intersection. Collaborating with North American EDM artists, I found clients who valued my creativity and gave me the creative freedom I craved.  

What AI tools are you working with for your creative process? 

I’m developing two projects. “Worldbuilding” is a microsoftware translating brand identities into concept art, a for freelancers and artists. Built with Typeform and Zapier, it’s a no-code solution turning ideas into CG animation concepts. Currently, it’s my clients’ exclusive tool for enhanced creativity. 

DreamRender” is the second project, aiming to shape dreams into tangible art. It’s under wraps now, but once the MVP is ready, I’ll share more! 

There’s a common perspective on AI that it would ruin lots of creative careers, with releases like open ai, or midjourney ai. Where do you think artists are heading in the future? 

AI isn’t a threat but a tool like OpenAI or Midjourney AI, reshaping and democratizing creativity. Many digital artists are more concerned about copyright issues than replacement by AI. They worried about their art used in AI training without consent, creating seemingly new pieces. But, isn’t this similar to artists drawing inspiration from different sources? We went on Pinterest, Artstation and Instagram to gather references, and create something new. I see a future where artists and AI co-create, with AI amplifying our creativity and realizing ideas in unimaginable ways. 

That being said, even though the surge in creative output facilitated by AI might seem exhilarating, there’s a risk – an art overload could potentially water down its overall value. In fact, this is not a new phenomenon, it’s a characteristic of postmodernism. 

In postmodern society, the rapid reproduction and circulation of art, often devoid of context or original authorship, can lead to saturation. The result is a sea of art that’s highly replicable and short-lived, a hallmark of postmodernism. This can dilute the sense of originality and intrinsic value tied to art. 

I learnt that in university by the way, I guess my 30k a year tuition is more useful than I thought. 

What is the next step for you in the future? Do you plan to explore any new artistic directions or technologies? 

Yes, recently I’ve been working on my O1 work visa in the US. And I have future projects lined up starting with being on tour with illenium. Super excited for that. I will be on tour for 2 months and working collaboratively. The best thing about this is that I’m trusted with the creative directions. So you will be seeing me experimenting with some new visual tech! I’d love to speak more about it once it happens. 

How did you start working with illenium’s team?
I connected with Illenium and his manager Sean Flynn multiple times in Canada and Japan. I guess I showed my face across continents enough that they wanted me to join. But jokes aside, I believe that my connection with Illenium’s team comes from a deeper resonance on both professional and personal levels. Sounds cliche, but it’s true. 

Professionally, our visions align seamlessly. We share a common understanding of the creative process and a desire to push boundaries. This synergy allows us to collaborate effectively. For lack of a better word, they are just so chill. We find common grounds to create meaningful music visual experiences so easily. 

On a personal level, there’s a genuine connection that goes beyond the work itself. We have similar values, outlooks, and a shared passion for creating impactful experiences through music and visuals. This bond not only enhances our working relationship but also fosters a creative environment that allows us to thrive. 

So, it’s a combination of building relationships, showcasing my skills, and finding that special connection that led to the exciting opportunity of joining Illenium on tour. I couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate with such a talented team and contribute my expertise to their creative journey.

Highly Sought After Award Winning Film Editor, Tanxuan Shi is making waves in Hollywood

Tanxuan Shi, a prominent young film editor in the Chinese community in California, has been making waves in the film industry. Born in China, Tanxuan received a bachelor’s degree in management from the prestigious Beijing Film Academy. During his time there, he directed an independent film called “Misdirection,” produced by Beijing Young Film Studio. This film was the first commercial film to be part of the Cooperation Graduation Projects at the Beijing Film Academy. Tanxuan started studying editing in 2012, which is one of his favourite courses in Beijing Film Academy, and he has also worked on many film and television projects as an editor or editorial assistant. When he worked on Misdirection in 2015, he was not only the director of the film, but also the editor of the film; many scenes were shot with 9 cameras at the same time, which was relatively complicated for editing in post-production, but Tanxuan’s excellent editing work was still recognised by Beijing Young Film Studio. From that day on, Tanxuan seemed destined to become an editor with a penchant for challenging edits. In 2017, Tanxuan moved to the United States to study at the New York Film Academy, where he earned two master’s degrees in Filmmaking and Screenwriting.

Over the years, Tanxuan has focused on telling Chinese stories with a Hollywood touch. His short film “Lip Reader: Game of Detective” won him nearly 30 international awards, including the “Best New Chinese Filmmaker” at the Oscar-qualifying LA Shorts Film Festival, the best editing award in the 7th Glendale film festival, American Golden Picture International Film Festival Best Editing, Best Editing of the Student LA Film Awards, INDIEX FILM FEST Best .Tanxuan also directed and edited “Magician: Game of Detective,” which garnered more than 40 international awards, including First Place in Best Short Film at the 15th Chinese American Film Festival.

In “Lip Reader: Game of Detective,” I’ve had more difficult challenges as an editor. Usually, some movies are to show multiple split screens at the same time but what I encountered is in the same time, using 18 split screens at the same time to tell the story, there’s a scene that the heroine Lin in front of a video wall composed of 18 screens to analyze the case, each screen needs to be placed in the video, and these videos are interrelated. The difficulty of editing can be imagined, but this is the editor’s life, creating the unique way for storytell. Also, I found that some scenes were not exactly as I had envisioned during the filming process. This prompted me to take a more creative approach as an editor to ensure the emotions and atmosphere of the scenes were expressed as I had initially intended. I had to adapt and find solutions to make the most out of the available footage, enhancing or altering the narrative as needed to create the desired impact.

As an editor, I believe that understanding the intricacies of storytelling and pacing is essential for achieving the best possible results. By rearranging the sequence of events, emphasizing key moments, and adjusting the rhythm of the film, an editor can greatly influence the overall flow and impact of the story. This creative flexibility allows the editor to enhance the director’s vision and bridge the gap between the initial concept and the final product.

Editing has helped me grow as a director, as it provides a unique perspective on the storytelling process. It has taught me the importance of being adaptable and open to change, as well as the value of precise decision-making when it comes to crafting a compelling narrative. I have learned how to make the most out of the material I have, even if it doesn’t perfectly align with my initial vision, by finding creative solutions that still convey the essence of the story.

“The director and editor are both Storyteller. Many talented directors were also very creative editors, such as Quentin Tarantino and Alfred Hitchcock. That’s what I want to work on.” said by Tanxuan. Moreover, being able to edit my own films has given me a better understanding of the entire filmmaking process, from pre-production to post-production. This knowledge allows me to make more informed decisions during the shooting phase, as I can anticipate potential challenges and find ways to minimize their impact on the final product.
