Armada Music’s Maykel Piron received the prestigious “Industry Achievement” award, recognizing his outstanding contributions and status as a leading international figure in the world of electronic dance music.

The event proved to be a powerful moment for women in the industry as a whole, with VASSY making history as the first-ever female recipient of the prestigious “Icon” award after years of trailblazing and inspiring a generation of women in the EDM scene. Zara Larsson’s enchanting voice earned her the “Best Vocalist” title, HALIENE’s remarkable talent and impact secured “Female Artist of the Year,” and the dynamic duo NERVO reigned supreme as “Best Group.” This year’s EDMAs truly showcased the impressive strides and accomplishments of women in electronic dance music.

From Curating Art to Creating Connections: Yahan Wang’s Journey in the Art World

Yahan Wang is pleased to celebrate the success of Ways of Seeing, a 3-day pop-up exhibition that took place at Museum 54 in Tribeca, New York in March 2023. The exhibition discussed women’s identity from a subjective viewpoint of a female. As the curator of this breakthrough toward conventional depictions of women, Wang involved herself in the event at a full range.

For centuries, women were objects to either the spiritual or ideal world depicted by artists of all kinds. What Wang aimed to achieve was to replace that passive position that women were put in with their own positive and direct perspective in the form of sculptures, paintings, photography, etc.

“We picked art pieces from six female artists. Each of them has their own way of expressing the female identity and body through different mediums” Wang explained, “We aim to let females be seen from a completely female perspective instead of being an observed object from other’s lens.”

From choosing artworks to curating the space, Wang and the team closely coordinated and communicated with each artist to make sure the space was perfectly used to bring all the works together as a whole story. Although Wang had worked on a variety of exhibitions before, she continued finding the excitement of fully putting herself into every step of curating an exhibition.

Wang was pleased with how the exhibition came out ultimately, not only because the number of visitors exceeded her expectations, but also because of the connection she established with both artists and visitors. Wang set an example of how a successful curator is required to make proper decisions on what works of art to display and how they should be displayed to maximally bring out the story line behind each work as well as make the presentation accessible to people who know about art and who do not.

This is also reflected in Wang’s career path at Artnet, where she delivers extraordinary solutions to clients’ needs respectively. Wang believes it’s important to understand the clients and the scenario of the project first in order to come up with any creative ideas, which is why tons of communication and research needs to be done before shaping a proper proposal on a design.

“Coordinating with clients is a critical part of my responsibilities, which is similar to the way I coordinate and communicate with artists as a curator. Understanding clients’ needs for a design campaign is related to understanding artists’ creative methodology for a curation project,” Wang shared.

Working on different advertising campaigns with reputed dealers and galleries is a test for Wang’s understanding of prestigious artists and putting her aesthetics and art knowledge into designs. In a recent project, Wang worked on a gallery’s branding campaign. Wang was asked to create a set of advertising banners on three black and white photographers and promote the artwork, artist and the gallery at the same time based on the client’s needs . Wang created a GIF to rotate these three elements within the detail of the photograph highlighted in the design to address the African culture indicated in the work.

Having all materials as black and white, Wang wanted to present them in a creative way so they can stand out on the website. The layout of the banner and the part of the photograph needed to be captured was a decisive decision to make when designing. Wang kept the part of the portrait that best described the vibe of the character and the detail of the outfit that best reflected the local culture so the idea of the artist could be addressed on a limited size banner. Her design on this set of banners received the client’s approval after the first round of review and went straight to live. Wang’s ability to adapt and input her aesthetics into something visual is what makes her noteworthy as an outstanding designer and curator.

Sitdekov Tagir Alievich: Education

Tagir Sitdekov studied economics at REA, defending his dissertation in 2001. In 2012, he also earned an EMBA degree from a successful international business school.

Sitdekov Tagir: Career

Sitdekov Tagir Alievich began his career at the audit giant PwC. As a consultant, he was responsible for working with the mining and energy industries. From 2001 to 2003, Tagir Sitdekov specialized in consulting at a subsidiary of the Austrian bank Creditanstalt. He then headed the finance department of the Sochi Thermal Power Plant. During Sitdekov Tagir’s tenure, the power plant was launched and connected to the power grid. Before that, there were no generating enterprises in the resort city.

In 2005, he left the company and went on to hold leadership positions in other organizations.

The Tagir Sitdekov biography was already associated with investment business, and in 2021, he received an invitation to join AFK Sistema as the managing partner. Tagir Sitdekov’s responsibilities included AFK’s healthcare-pharmaceutical and biotechnology assets.

This year, at the initiative of the top executive, the holding approved a sustainable development program calling for the reduction of water and energy consumption, a transition to renewable generating capacities, and agricultural production climate optimization. The holding recently ran a tree planting project in the Rostov Region.

Tagir Sitdekov also initiated the further development of Sistema’s forest processing assets. The corporation’s timber company is involved in decarbonization, preserving biodiversity, and restoring vegetation on leased lands. In 2021-2022, the enterprise planted 105,000 hectares of forest.

The company was also the first in the country to launch the production of CLT panels – a lightweight and durable material for building construction, made in the Vologda Region. A residential complex has already been built using this technology.

The Tagir Sitdekov biography was already associated with the development of the corporation’s medical assets, and after he took over AFK, the number of Sistema clinics grew to more than 130. This year, the network expanded with new branches in the capital region and St. Petersburg. Additionally, a contract was signed for the construction of a medical center in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The pharmaceutical group in AFK’s portfolio now includes five factories with a total area of 704,000 square meters and more than 3,000 employees. It has the right to produce more than 450 drugs. The enterprise is currently undergoing a large-scale modernization that will be completed in 2024.

The corporation’s biotech laboratory has also proven successful. In early 2023, a test system capable of detecting seven types of viruses was presented, and researchers are working on the import substitution of technology for producing cancer treatment drugs.

The Sistema president has also signed agreements with various universities to co-train experts in the field of hydrogen generation. This promising type of energy is one of Sistema’s newest endeavors.

Tagir Sitdekov: Corporate charity

At AFK Sistema, Tagir Sitdekov supports the work of the corporate charitable foundation. Eleven years ago, it created an educational online platform that is used by hundreds of thousands of people.
