Washing machines provide enormous convenience for our laundry routine, but we always forget that regular maintenance is necessary. For example, leftover lint can build up in washing machines and cause problems, so cleaning the lint filter between loads of laundry is essential!

This small screen door keeps some potentially big problems at bay. It not only keeps lint from clogging your drains, but also keeps some potentially dangerous chemicals out of your water supply.

What comes off our clothes (and towels, sheets, and comforters) goes to the drain, along with soap and washing machine chemicals. So if there were no lint screen, you could be washing your clothes with a toxic soup.

The problem is that the lint trap also accumulates bits of fiber from dirty clothes and towels, as well as soap scum and other particles. So it is important to periodically clean out the washing machine lint filter so that water can pass through easily.

Although Ruby was working on the first draft of her novel, her sudden social media success took her on a detour. In 2017, she published her first poetry book. Ruby paid £250 for the cover design, printing, and distribution costs for this self-published work. In the first month, she sold 350 copies, an amazing feat considering she hardly had any followers at that point! When she considered the fact that the average novel only sells 900 copies in its lifetime, Ruby was thrilled with her results.

Ruby put the proceeds from her book into a separate bank account that she used to build on her publishing success. She used a portion of her sales to buy ads on Facebook. When those ads led to more sales, she reinvested some of the money into purchasing more ads.

Growing Success

Those 350 copies were only the beginning. Today Ruby has sold over 30,000 copies of her books in less than a year. That includes selling 20,000 copies of her most recent book, which put her onto the bestseller list. She continues to write and publish about one book each year, with five books now under her belt.

Ruby is one of only seven South Asian women in the world to be featured in Harper’s Bazaar Writer Hotlist (2017). Today she continues to write content about love, heartbreak, moving on, letting go, healing, and mental health. She’s actively working on writing her sixth book, which will be her first easy-to-digest self-help book.

When she isn’t writing, Ruby provides one-to-one healing sessions on Zoom and teaches workshops at schools and universities. She is an ambassador for two charities and wants to use her platform to make the world a better place.

As a young adult, Samantha had big dreams for making it in the corporate world. She went to Ivey Business School and spent over ten years in management consulting. Samantha helped businesses develop strategies. Although she was good at the work, she didn’t love it.

When she was laid off from her management consulting job, she started Traveling Munchkin, her first business. When 2020 hit, fewer people were traveling. This was a huge hit to her travel-based business. Samantha knew she needed to get into the online space if her business was going to survive.

How Samantha Became the TikTok Coach

When the pandemic impacted her business, Samantha hit a dark place. She was depressed and felt like she’d failed. During this time, she turned to TikTok as a distraction. She saw the good it had to offer and spent time learning from short videos on a daily basis.

She took her new interest in TikTok and started making videos for Traveling Munchkin, her traveling business. In only three months, she grew to a following of over 100,000 people! She had orders coming in and businesses asking her how she did it and if she could teach them.

Samantha closed her business in 2021 and started her business as The TikTok Coach. Through her business, she helps businesses and brands market and increase their reach online. In the first year alone, Samantha helped over 200 companies. Disrupt named her as one of Canada’s top TikTok coaches.

She prefers to work only with businesses and brands that are willing to teach and educate their audiences to some degree. Samantha won’t work with people and brands who only want to showcase themselves and their products.

Although she’s already proved them wrong, she continues to prove them wrong. Her parents and in-laws don’t understand what she does and why she loves it. They also can’t quite grasp why people would pay for her services.

Another challenge is the limiting beliefs of brands who think TikTok isn’t worth using. She likes to ask them where their business would be if they got into Instagram when it launched in 2009. Samantha then points to TikTok as a golden opportunity to lead the competition in this new space. Brands have the opportunity to change the way marketing is done in their industries.

Samantha’s mission and vision involve creating an opportunity for brands that want to be thought leaders. She wants to help them get the exposure they need while showing off their fun, creative, and educational sides.
