White Boy and the Average Rant Band: 40 Years and Still Going Strong

Founded over 40 years ago by founding member Mike Matney, the White Boy and the Average Rant Band has lasted the test of time since the release of their debut self-titled album.  Several hiatuses and breaks later, the band is back on the scene with “Holy Cow,” a single and video that was released on February 3, 2022.

This comeback is the latest in a long list of breaks in “transmission” for the band who saw itself disappear from the mainstream after their debut album. They would reappear in 2017 with a record deal with Heaven and Hell Records to reissue their first album. The next two years saw the band make strategic partnerships, tours, and projects, which culminated in the band’s sophomore effort, titled “Love my Ride.”

The band was well on its way to embarking on a series of tours when the pandemic struck, which shattered their plans.

Directly from Mike Matney, founder of the band:

“Being stuck on the farm and getting to spend time in my home studio was not necessarily a bad thing for me. However, I could not have anticipated the devastating personal loss of my mother. That loss, combined with the bombardment of images on the nightly news of the pandemic, riots in the streets, chaos and political unrest forced me to do some real soul searching. Raised a Southern Baptist in a small town, many a Sunday was spent listening to my mom playing the piano in church. It was comforting. Growing up a musician in the ’70s and ’80s I was greatly influenced by the hard rock music of the day. My Christian upbringing, the gospel music, my faith and my love of hard rock are all things I lean on during the lowest of times. These things were an inspiration to me and when I’m inspired I write. Writing and recording can be both catharsis and an obsession. Each song was painstakingly crafted over the course of the last two years. ‘Holy Cow’ represents 52 years of faith, musicianship and two years of total bs!!”

“While I am a Christian, my dad said it best, ‘Ya gotta live in this world.’ That philosophy impressed me greatly and shows upon my song-writing, from walking that fine line to fighting the demons we all face. I have always been one to hold my peace, so to speak, but ‘Holy Cow’ allows me to speak both artistically and spiritually, from my soul. And now, I’m praying for a louder voice.”

“The title track ‘Holy Cow’ was recorded at my home studio in Southwest Virginia. I built it after I graduated from MTSU’s recording industry program in ’97. I was searching for a raw and bare-bones sound that is the band’s trademark. I also like that slight element of funk in it. I laid down the guitar riff first and the lyrics came over the next couple of weeks. After it all came together, I decided to try something new. Instead of mixing the songs myself or sending them off to one of my buddies in Nashville, I got on Fiverr and found a guy. After a lot of research, I landed on Oliver Wagner…in Taiwan of all places. I threw the stuff up on DropBox and Oliver worked his magic. I was impressed.”

“I brought Rambo (Darrell Gibson, Bass Player) and Hog (Jerry Hogeston, drummer) in on the video. Jerry was one of the original drummers for the band and Darrell has been with the band since 2017.”

“For the video, I decided I would get on Fiverr again (I love Fiverr) and see what some of those guys could come up with. I would tell each one what I wanted and got video after video, then combined them. Afterwards, I brought in the guys and we did our parts. As for the main character (White Boy) well…I’d always toyed with the idea. It just seemed like the right time. I admit, having grown up in the shadow of Kiss and Alice Cooper, it was kind of fun doing the grease-paint thing. Lastly, I went looking for Cody Reid. This guy is a great filmmaker and editor. Cody and I became friends when Bluesdog, a harmonica player from the Canadian band Zed Head (which we both played in), introduced us. Bluesdog and Cody had worked on the set of the television show “Nashville” together. He and I had lost touch, so it was awesome that we were able to reconnect over this project. Cody was able to take what I had done and refine it even more.”

“Forty years building up to this point. Locked and loaded. Here we come!”

Trevor Crump and Labwork Media (The Lab) Are Shaking Things Up in the Marketing Scene

Trevor Crump studied marketing but was turned down by many companies when he applied for jobs due to his lack of experience. Disheartened by the challenge of job hunting, he went to get a master’s degree instead. Simultaneously, he was building experience in the marketing industry. After a decade in the game, Trevor is now one of the strongest marketers in the field.

“I’ve known I was going to be a marketer since I was 14 years old. Ever since my friend’s dad sold his ad agency called D.S.W. and retired in his early 30s. I watched him settle down in a nice house, bought a forest green Porsche, and knew I wanted that life,” shared Trevor Crump.

At the same time, Trevor Crump built his own ecommerce business with his friend Asher Golf in 2016, which they were able to scale into a six-figure venture in less than a year. The ecommerce business has now grown into a multi-million dollar business. Leveraging his experience in the ecommerce space, Trevor Crump joined a multi-million-dollar startup as the company’s CMO. With Fawn Design, he showcased his passion and skills in marketing and grew new acquisitions by over 35%.

In 2020, Trevor Crump finally launched his full-service ecommerce marketing agency called Labwork Media, better known as The Lab. During the first 18 months in the game, the entrepreneur and his team were able to scale The Lab into a seven-figure business. Today, the CEO is preparing to launch a full advertising production studio and is working on a Shopify application that will help the business understand data better to serve clients with a more streamlined system.

The Lab does not work like a traditional marketing agency. The company shakes things up by working with transparency, visibility, and accountability. Although the agency has only been in operation for less than two years, Trevor Crump is proud that they have been able to retain their first clients to this day.

“We aren’t trying to take over and become a massive agency with hundreds of clients. We carefully evaluate brands that we can become partners with. Brands that we can become an actual part of their marketing team. We don’t just run ads; we get into the business. We help business owners find gaps in the rest of their marketing infrastructure,” shared Trevor Crump. “When the business fails, we fail. When the business succeeds, we celebrate together.”

In addition, Trevor Crump is building a personal brand and a community where people can learn what it takes to become efficient digital marketers. The community gives people access to training, one-on-one consultations, firsthand marketing experience, learning resources from guest speakers, and specialized marketing courses. The program is set to launch in the spring of 2022.

“I am trying to change how people think about learning marketing and becoming an entrepreneur,” Trevor Crump explained. “I used to think you had to go to college and spend thousands of dollars, get an internship, climb the corporate ladder, etc. College is no longer the answer. The answer is online. You don’t need a formal education. You need experience. You need failures and successes.”

Approaching Retirement? This “Safe Money” Advisor Has the All-in-One Solution You Didn’t Even Know You Needed

Do you know what the #1 fear of retirees is?

Running out of money.

But with proper planning in place, you can put all of your retirement fears to rest.

Grant Lannin is what’s known as a “safe money” advisor. Meaning he only deals with products that can’t lose money or go backwards in the market—guaranteeing that you have at least a base level of income to live off of and plan around if worse comes to worst.

“Too many people unfortunately go into retirement carrying enormous amounts of risk without even knowing it,” Grant said. “They are completely unaware that if we go through another 2008 where the market drops their retirement accounts by 48%—not only are they kissing their principal goodbye, but also their retirement income”.

Grant understands that not everyone is fortunate enough to have a pension that guarantees them a certain amount of money every month. But he wants everyone to know that with proper planning, they are actually able to create their own “private pensions” that guarantee them a stream of income for the rest of their life—no matter what happens in the market.

When asked what the best strategy is to prepare for retirement, Grant responded by saying he gets this question all the time and it’s impossible to answer without knowing someone’s unique situation.

“That is like asking what you should do to heal your undiagnosed wound before you’ve even been to the doctor,” he says. “Every client I have has a completely unique plan that is created to solve specific problems that they themselves face—and the only way these problems are uncovered is by going through a simple financial health analysis. That thing reads to me like a chart reads to your doctor.”

What’s also interesting is that when asked what one of the most pressing problems retirees face that they’re not even aware of is, Grant responded with this:

“Probably sequence of returns risk. Meaning, when you don’t have any income coming in, you are compounding solely off of the principal you have, which can be dangerous if the market goes down at the wrong time. Here’s what I mean. Let’s say you have $100,000 in the market, then it drops by 50%. How much do you have now? $50,000. Now let’s say the market goes right back up 50% the next day. How much do you have now? Many people assume the answer is ‘I’d be back at $100,00!’ That is actually incorrect. Fifty percent of $50,000 is only $25,000, right? So even if the market rebounded in full the next day, oops—you’re now compounding off a smaller amount than what you had originally. So your account is now only at $75,000 instead of $100,000. And without any new income coming in, this hurts.”

Grant continued to mention that all of these common pitfalls can usually be avoided by someone taking a proactive approach to their own retirement by going through an educational process with a professional that has the client’s best interest at heart.

“The key to avoiding major retirement disasters is through education. And more specifically, education regarding what potential problems you’re on track to hit and what potential solutions you have to avoid them. These are the types of things I am so passionate about helping my clients solve. And education is the first step.”

Renzie Richardson Uses Her Past to Help Others with Their Futures in Business

Coach Re has been leading others to find prosperity like leaves on the tree through her Mind Your Business Now Program. The most successful people in the world had to start somewhere, and contrary to popular belief, it’s never too late to dust off your path to success. However, the road towards success is never easy, and business coaching is often a must, especially in the cutthroat world of business.

Fortunately, Renzie Richardson is here to help transform entrepreneurs into CEOs, a successful task that she has done for over two decades and counting. Richardson is the founder and CEO of the BHFL Group, impacting over 500 lives and organizations through the work that she has been putting out over the years. With the immense experience, knowledge, and expertise that she has gathered, she is now branching from one-on-one consulting into more group coaching-style programs.

Dubbed as Coach Re, Renzie Richardson is introducing her own tried and tested Mind Your Business Now! “12-Step Signature Coaching Program.” Through the program, she pairs her years of experience with a focus on uplifting women and minority-owned businesses with a formula to grow because that is what she wished she had when she first left her 9-to-5 job.

Richardson is soft spoken and has a warm, no-nonsense tone that she uses to help business owners, CEOs, and entrepreneurs be leaders with a vision to win. A common issue among many entrepreneurs and business owners is that they tend to give up when the going gets tough. They often feel stuck within their current stage of their businesses and give up on building a $MM enterprise. Coach Re hopes to remedy that by helping her clients understand how their mindset relates to their growth potential.

“Your business is you, and you are your business,” said Renzie Richardson. “How do the two link together? If you have a limiting mindset, your business growth is going to be limited.” The next piece of Richardson’s puzzle is leadership. “A lot of small businesses are great at what they do,” she added. “But they lack a foundation in leadership, and that can make or break their venture.”

Aspiring entrepreneurs can take Richardson’s online assessment to begin the process by booking a call. This assessment vets her potential clients to ensure that they are a good fit for her program and help them feel confident that her services are a good fit for them as well.

“From starting an entrepreneur journey to shifting into being the CEO of an enterprise—knowing how to grow and scale a business—there’s a huge void in that space,” she said. “That void is the space that I’m in. I help people understand how to go from working a gig to being a real CEO.”

Ultimately, Renzie Richardson aims to help small businesses in sidewalk communities sustain their businesses since these types of businesses tend to support the infrastructure, economics, churches, and schools therein. She maintains that creating jobs gives minority business owners an opportunity to change institutional policies that affect black and brown business owners.

“I love what I do. It’s my passion. At the end of the day, for me, it’s about creating jobs and sustaining a community ecosystem. I love helping minorities and women. When you create jobs, you have a seat at the table to invoke change and a ripple effect of good outcomes. All businesses are not cookie-cutters, and all people are not wired the same. I tap into understanding human behavior and use that leverage to tap into their strengths,” she said.

Bianca Festejo’s Nue Conceal: The Most Innovative Way To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks And Scars

Body positivity encourages inclusion and acceptance of all bodies. As more and more campaigns promote self-love, one may say that gone are the days when beauty standards meant slim body and flawless skin. However, the reality is, although more and more celebrities are showcasing their blemishes in social media in an attempt to normalize imperfection, for some people, confidence still requires having porcelain-like skin.

One of the most common skin concerns adults have is stretch marks and scars. Many people use serums, creams, or laser treatments to get rid of stretch marks. However, although these treatments may improve the appearance of stretch marks or scars, the results are still far from satisfactory. Putting an end to this skin problem, tattoo artist Bianca Festejo created a unique procedure by incorporating her permanent makeup skills with technology which she calls Nue Conceal.

Festejo and her team created a set of skin tone pigments that can match any skin color. These pigments are deposited into the skin through a tattoo procedure to even out discoloration. They also developed a revolutionary skin tone reading device and an app to determine skin color and provide accurate pigment suggestions. This technology ensures that every skin is matched perfectly. The one-of-a-kind procedure goes well on every stretch mark, childhood scar, surgical scar, and hypopigmentation.

Having treated thousands of clients, Festejo noticed that scars and stretch mark dramatically affects mental health. It affects people psychologically, mentally, and emotionally. “Most of my clients share how they have never worn shorts or refuse to join friends and family gatherings or even decline a job opportunity because of their fear that their scars will be revealed. With Nue Conceal, we are able give them hope and an opportunity to live life fully without self-doubt,” Festejo said.

Being a leading name for camouflage tattoos, Nue Conceal also helps aspiring beauty entrepreneurs enter the industry. With their in-person and online classes, they have already taught hundreds of students worldwide. Their latest expansion was in New York, spearheaded by Nue Artist Angel Ramchard-Meri. Angel is a professional singer who felt the urge to have a career shift and venture into the Camouflage Tattoo industry. “I chose to train with Nue Conceal because of their innovative technology, but I got so much more than that; their vision is aligned with mine. Being able to make a career while helping others regain their confidence is the most fulfilling part of this job,” Ramchard-Meri said.
