Chris Dobry and Stryker Records Continue to Dominate the Live Music Scene

There are some moments in life that can define a person. For Chris Dobry, it was when he was only 14 years old, when he acquired his very first bass guitar. He could not remember the specifics, but this moment prompted his colossal love for music.

Years later, Chris Dobry is now a celebrated name after launching Stryker Records. Chris continuously promotes live concerts, manages several artists, and releases music worldwide on this platform. He started Stryker Records in 1997 without a dime to his name. Ever since his musical epiphany, he always had this ingenious idea of setting up a battle of the bands in his hometown in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Of course, it was in Chris’s nature to pursue a project he knew he could do, so after a series of high-profile press releases, he finally scored an interview with the local CBS station, on the same night the Grammy Awards was on. As such, this garnered a lot of attention for the event he was holding, and before he knew it, he had enough funds to launch Stryker Records, as well as take on the opportunity to showcase plenty of local talents that would later go on to work with Chris in the future.

After officially establishing Stryker Records and going through the necessary process, Chris moved his operations to Detroit, Michigan, where Euphoria Productions hired him to promote even more significant events. He was working with platinum and gold recording country artists such as Merle Haggard and John Anderson in next to no time.

In recent years, Chris continues to work his magic by promoting artists like Saving Abel, Saliva, Tantric, Trapt, to name a few. He also teamed up with Holly Hutchison of AnRGirl to launch Stryker Records recording artists Jamie Fontaine & the Level, who made it to the number 20 spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator chart. They also landed the number 7 spot in the Concrete/Foundations chart with their single “Save Your Life” in September 2020. The single, produced by Jason Schrick of JPS Productions and platinum producer Malcolm Springer at Universal Studios in Nashville, challenged other well-known artists like Seether, Marilyn Manson, Breaking Benjamin, and more.

Now, Chris still signs other artists with undeniable potential, including the label’s upcoming hip-hop sensation, Drew Lines, who will be starting a midwest tour in early March. Besides the bevy of talents that Chris’s label has successfully produced, nearly all the live music events that they have launched have been nothing short of triumphant, cementing once and for all that Stryker Records does not only function as a record label but also a promoter of significant events. Another factor that sets them apart from the competition is their diverse operating methods.

Chris certainly did not expect this level of success when he was merely starting. Before all the triumphs and the victories that he is faced today, he was merely a young man who played a few shows with his friends in their high school auditorium. But as he got older, his purpose became apparent, and he knew where he wanted to be in the future.

In the late ’90s, he was hanging out with a rapper in Toledo, and they eventually talked about prisons, bringing up the Stryker Prison in Ohio.  The prison did not necessarily inspire the label, but the word Stryker just spoke to Chris on many levels. He admits that most of that evening was spent talking about music and coming up with a name for Stryker Records.

Chris believes that a strong foundation at home is the key to success in business, so he hopes that he will find himself happy and enjoyably balancing his home, business, and social life in the next five years. He also aspires to expand his label by signing several more rock, country, and hip-hop groups.

Top Five Small Business Trends in 2022

By Jay Jung

While many of us looked forward to the end of 2021, this year presents its own challenges–some familiar, some new. Here’s a list of the top five trends that will affect small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in 2022.

  1. Increases in customer acquisition costs are already a significant headwind for SMBs. Emerging from the holiday season, SMBs that run proper analytics are realizing that Apple’s updated Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) policies, rolled out in April 2021, have made it much more expensive to market themselves.
  2. Middle-market private equity (PE) firms continue to raise more capital as the size of PE funds become ever larger and valuations remain robust. This year, cash-rich PE firms will be on the hunt for well-managed SMBs. Despite inflation and a bumpy economic forecast, buyer appetite is still strong; therefore, 2022 will prove to be an attractive window for would-be sellers.
  3. Hiring will continue to be a constraint–even more so than capital. Strong sales people, technical staff, trade-skill workers and software developers will continue to be in heightened demand and wages will continue increasing. This will drive innovating hiring solutions in 2022.
  4. The hybrid workforce will become the norm this year. Even with some offices opening up and many workers returning to the office at companies large and small, many people will continue to seek out remote work, and for a variety of reasons. SMBs, starved for talent, will recruit beyond their old geographic boundaries and will organically morph into a hybrid workforce wherein some workers stay in the office while others collaborate remotely. However, few employees will probably be required to be in the office five days a week this year–or in the future.
  5. Inflation will be felt throughout the organization in 2022. The United States has not seen 6% inflation in the last 25 years and some metrics have inflation running at a four-decade high. Many entrepreneurs and/or SMB owners don’t yet understand how elevated price levels–from materials, labor, transportation and so forth–will impact their financial performance. Learning what actions to take both preemptively and reactively will be a key management challenge and focal point this year.

From Features to Bright Futures: Ty Gordon and Wooden Finger Studios

Since its conception, Wooden Finger Studios has held strong narratives at the core of their identity. Led by the multifaceted Ty Gordon, the production company based in Marina del Rey, California burst onto the scene in 2019, quickly hopping from short to feature and even into other media pursuing the drive to create compelling, relevant narratives.

This multi-media approach to narrative sets Wooden Finger Studios firmly apart from the majority of contemporary production houses. And, thanks to the success seen by its debut short Harm (2020) and debut feature Obscura (2020), Ty Gordon and his team have demonstrated that such an approach doesn’t have to negatively affect quality.

Such success is undoubtedly linked to the expertise and credentials which form the foundations of Wooden Finger Studios. Let’s take a look back to see how the studio became what it is today, while simultaneously looking forward to the plethora of projects we have to be excited about.

Getting Knee-Deep in Cinema

Founder Ty Gordon began his career in film in 2010, at the ripe age of 20, by grasping a production assistant internship opportunity with both hands. This internship saw Gordon dive head-first into the bustling set of the TV show Leverage (2008-2012), giving him an incredibly potent first taste of the industry. It goes without saying, that experience acted as the spark for what would become a career in the industry.

In 2014, Gordon was thrown a curveball when offered the opportunity to intern for the decorated documentary filmmaker T. C. Johnstone (Red Horizon, Dealmakers, Teen Press). Quickly adapting from a bustling set to on-the-ground run-and-gun, Gordon found himself driving down to Mexico capturing footage for Johnstone’s documentary Hearing Everett.

Amalgamating these two vastly different early experiences in the industry, the seeds for Gordon’s fascination in the wide range of methods to tell cinematic narratives were surely sown. Planting the ideologies which would later go on to craft Wooden Finger Studios into what it is today.

While these early experiences created a solid platform for Gordon, life, as it so often does, had other plans. 2015 was a difficult year, riddled by loss and difficult relations, worsened by alcohol and drug abuse. Riding the unsteady waters, Gordon found refuge at his writing desk, drafting up numerous screenplays, solidifying his ambitions to become a writer/director.

Overcoming those darker days, Gordon steamed into a third internship in 2017, partnering with The Bible Project, a faith-based production company. Mobilising his already extensive experience, Gordon made the most of this experience, on-boarding all the fundamentals of what it takes to create and run a production company.

Despite having filled his toolbox with applicable knowledge to create his own production company, Gordon had to prove it to himself that he could see through the dream. Thus, he joined the intensive film apprenticeship program at The Film Connection which saw Gordon direct his first short film, the thriller Harm.

Towards Features: Wooden Finger Studios

With experience, expertise and knowhow under his belt, Ty Gordon began to lay the foundations of what would become his future base of operations. And with his debut short, Harm, already receiving a warm reception, what better project to kick off a production house than with a release.

Thus, Ty Gordon founded Wooden Finger Studios and quickly onboarded Vice President Robert Thomas Preston alongside associate producer Andrew John Lee Tevis.

Riding the success of Harm, the trio were quick to set off on their next project—which would become Wooden Finger Studios’ debut feature.

Executive produced by Ty Gordon, directed by Robert Thomas Preston and starring Andrew John, Obscura tells the thrilling story of a photographer who becomes entangled in a series of murders as clues begin to show themselves on his camera’s 35mm film stock. Shot throughout Gordon’s home turf of Oregon, Obscura released in 2020 securing a future for Wooden Finger Studios.

Without time for celebration, Gordon eagerly pitched the concept for his debut feature, Never Forgotten, which quickly went into production. The film, a tale of three friends with an old, dark secret surfacing to threaten their friendship, along with their sanity, synthesises the atmospheric thriller atmosphere which was developed throughout Harm and Obscura.

With Gordon writing, directing, producing and performing in the lead role, there is a lot resting on Never Forgotten. With the dual pressure of being Gordon’s debut and the production house’s sophomore feature film. Yet, if Wooden Finger Studios’ previous two releases are anything to go by, it’s clear that audiences will have a lot to look forward to.

While waiting for Never Forgotten to enter theatres in October 2021, the team at Wooden Finger Studios are not waiting for a pat on the back. Instead, Ty Gordon has been eagerly penning a variety of cinematic works which hope to become the upcoming endeavours which will put the studio on the Hollywood map.

From the off-beat coming-of-age dramady California Dreaming to the high-concept sci-fi epic World War III, these coming productions are sure to define the scope and success of the studio.

Underneath these pipeline productions, Gordon and his team are already in the midst of creating their first documentary. Harking back to Gordon’s work with documentary veteran T. C. Johnstone, this documentary, entitled Hollywood Big Hitters, seeks to capture the team’s rise up the filmmaking ranks. Hollywood Big Hitters is intended to be released in a number of one-hour segments, running parallel to their other, fiction, productions.

Wooden Finger Studios is sure to become prolific in the coming years, filling its ever-expanding catalogue with rich, diverse content.

Beyond Cinema

While the cinematic futures of Wooden Finger Studios’ future productions may require some patience from fans, Gordon and the team have dedicated themselves to more than just cinema.

Dipping their toes into the realms of graphic novels and gaming, Wooden Finger has quickly become a multi-media production house. But these are more than frivolous endeavours into media on the periphery of cinema.

Both products, Ethereal (graphic novel) and Ethereal Run (mobile game), take an early dive into the lore-rich world Ty Gordon has crafted in his script for World War III. Laying the early foundation for an extensive, multi-media franchise to be built from the upcoming project.

The graphic novel, Ethereal, is written by Ty Gordon and crafted by illustrator Ben Perkins. Spanning an impressive 68 pages, each bustling with design, colour and action. The narrative presented within is a story-rich prequel to the events within World War III, taking place 13 years prior to the events in the film-to-be.

Ethereal Run follows the same narrative as Ethereal but is presented in the interactive medium of video games—making multiple entry points for future fans of the franchise. The game is an action-heavy romp which prides itself on challenge and rich narrative.

Combined, these endeavours into multiple different forms of media have added a wealth of feathers to Wooden Finger Studios’ cap. Locating them not only as a film studio, but a studio willing to do what it takes to reach beyond traditional cinematic audiences, telling (and expanding) their stories across the boundaries of medium.

Of course, these multimedia projects may well have been instigated due to the stranglehold the COVID-19 pandemic placed on the global film industry—stopping many productions in their tracks. But, even if that is the case, Wooden Finger Studios’ ability to adapt to such restrictive conditions, allowing them to continue to output relevant works, is certainly commendable.

With luck and careful finesse, such an approach will surely serve Wooden Finger Studios well in the future, following in the footsteps of similarly multifaceted media companies such as the empire of George Lucas (Lucasfilm, LucasArts, Skywalker Sound), The Walt Disney Company and many more.

Keeping the Cogs Turning

From early days of inspiration to debuts and branching out into other media, Ty Gordon and Wooden Finger Studios have time and again demonstrated their drive to craft compelling narratives. But, perhaps more importantly, they have displayed an unwavering passion to create. Quickly bouncing from debut short to debut and sophomore feature within the span of two years—sprinkling two multimedia works in there for good measure. Keeping to this philosophy of production, it is exciting to consider that Wooden Finger Studios already has a number of works in the pipeline.

From Never Forgotten, set to arrive in theatres in October 2021, to California Dreaming and World War III which hope to go into production in the coming years, Ty Gordon and the studio are keeping their cogs well lubricated, ensuring that production is consistent. A work ethic which will likely garner much attention for the studio in the coming years.

Wooden Finger Studios, then, positions itself as a production company to keep your eyes on. Its ever-growing forward momentum combined with Ty Gordon’s deep-seated passion for storytelling poise the studio to break out into the film industry. And, fortunately for us, we’ll be able to watch their growth through the episodic releases of Hollywood Big Hitters.

Eric Martel and MartelTurnkey Putting People on the Right Path in the Real Estate World

Real estate has been a saving grace for many. Despite the reputation the industry has received, many people who desperately need saving from the financial woes they’re going through still have no idea where to start . After striking success, Eric Martel is now focused on shedding light on successful paths that can get anyone set on the path towards financial success.

Eric Martel’s expertise is in the real estate investing world, navigating and building businesses while teaching others the ins and outs of investing. His brand, MartelTurnkey, has thrived in helping the working class achieve financial freedom through ownership of real estate rentals. Eric has succeeded as a real estate investor, entrepreneur, speaker, and author for over 25 years and has proven how one can rise from the bottom to the top of the ladder.

His first apartment building, which he bought when he was 18 and in college was undoubtedly a novel thing for a college student of his age to do. Having no money, it was difficult to find a bank who would lend, a seller who was willing to lend the rest of the money, while still providing positive cashflow. Nevertheless, he stuck to his guns and managed to acquire an 8 unit apartment building. After his college education, he took a break from the industry to practice with his degree by getting a job as an actuary. Soon enough, he knew he was not cut out for the stifling 9-to-5. He was big on financial success, and he knew he had to chart his own course in order to achieve it. Against all odds he delved into high tech and lost millions during the dot com crash of 2001.

With the crash, he reignited his entrepreneurial passion for real estate. He faced the business squarely and began building investment experience which would later make him an authority in the field. His current work at MartelTurnkey is geared towards enabling people to achieve their financial goals by selling them turnkey single family rentals in stable cash flowing markets. Within four years, the company grew to the point where Eric had more than enough to retire and pursue his other passions of teaching and mentoring others.

MartelTurnkey has established a strong presence across the United States with Turnkey rentals in multiple markets such as Memphis, Cleveland, St Louis, and Detroit. The company is known for offering rental properties and filling them with tenants so investors can cash flow off of their investment practically immediately. This gives reassured prospective investors a guarantee on tenancy once they close on the properties.

MartelTurnkey is all about making a considerable difference in the real estate market by educating clients on how to avoid overpaying for properties. “We get the best price for turnkey rentals. Nobody ever had to overpay or undersell properties with MartelTurnkey in the picture,” Eric assured.

Eric Martel anticipates MartelTurnkey becoming a powerful hub for people looking for financial success in only a few years. His plans for the near-future include propagating the potential of investing in single-family rentals.
