Jing Peng: Innovating Gamification in UI/UX Design

In the vibrant world of design, few names resonate as strongly with innovation, user-friendliness, and enjoyment as Jing Peng. By leveraging gamification principles across different industries, her work transforms user experiences, business outcomes, and societal well-being, providing a valuable contribution to America’s national interests.

A master of UI/UX design, Jing’s journey began in 2013 at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center, where she honed her skills and embraced emerging technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D scanning, and the Kinect sensor.

Her commitment to creating thoughtful, intuitive, and delightful experiences across every touchpoint established her design philosophy.

Jing’s career took off at mobile gaming giant Scopely Inc. in 2015, where she joined the Dice franchise team and worked on the popular title Yahtzee with Buddies. She led the overall UI/UX design and key features like Dice Master Showdown, which was well-received by players. Yahtzee was recognized as one of Facebook’s 2015 Best Web Games, and Scopely ranked #9 on Inc.’s List of the 5000 Fastest-Growing Companies in America and #1 in the U.S. In 2016, Jing joined Pocket Gems and worked on their flagship product, War Dragons. Her design talents improved key metrics, keeping War Dragons among the top 100 grossing U.S. games since 2016 and Pocket Gems has been on the list of top 50 mobile game developers from 2016-2019.

Jing’s pursuit was not limited to the game industry. In 2021, Jing transitioned to educational technology company Tangible Play Inc., also known as Osmo, working on the Math Wizard series and Little Genius Starter Kit. As a senior designer, she played a key role in the redesign project of Little Genius Starter Kit’s Shape Builder. Within five months and two rounds of testing and iteration, Jing and her team successfully improved the Net Promoter Score (NPS) of Shape Builder by around 60%. Her empathy for children and exceptional design work contributed to Osmo being loved and trusted by millions of parents. Jing’s passion for educational technology continued in 2022 when she joined a startup Synthesis School. The main product uses engaging team strategy games to teach critical problem-solving strategies. Jing’s meticulous approach to user-friendly design and iteration based on feedback has enhanced the educational experience for tens of thousands of children on the Synthesis platform and also helped the company grow their business. Her abilities to deliver easy-to-use and elegant design solutions enriched the educational technology field and safeguarded the future education of countless young Americans.

Jing has also expanded her design expertise into healthcare technology. She recognizes the industry’s design needs and is enthusiastic about applying her skills to tackle the challenges of global population aging. For the past two years, she has been working remotely with the Chinese healthcare tech company Shenzhen Naowunao Network Technology to develop digital therapy programs for brain cognitive function assessment and training. In 2023, their cognitive assessment product received both a registration number from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and a patent. Collaborating with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology and other research institutes, their product has benefitted over 7,000 seniors across more than 20 communities in China, and they plan to expand to more cities in 2024. Jing’s work contributes to improving the quality of life for individuals while alleviating the burden on healthcare systems, thus benefiting both individuals and society as a whole.

Across diverse industries, Jing’s innovative approach to UI/UX design, integrating gamification principles, serves as a catalyst for stimulating innovation and fostering competitiveness. Her dedication to using gamification to create profound contributions to broader society not only drives economic prosperity but also contributes to national innovation and competitiveness on a global scale, which positions her as a true leader in the UI/UX design field.
