What if the secret to feeling better — mentally, emotionally, and physically — wasn’t in the next productivity hack or another self-help trend?
What if the key to happiness was simply listening to your body, and clearing your mind?
That’s the message Rich Chi keeps returning to in his work.
As a registered dietitian, personal trainer, diabetes educator, and Yoga teacher, Rich believes we’ve overcomplicated wellness. In doing so, we’ve overlooked the most important truth:
“When your body feels better, you feel better,” he says. “It’s not just about appearance or performance. It’s about taking care of your body so that your body, mind, and spirit can work in harmony. And this puts your mind at ease.”
Listening to the Body Instead of Pushing It
In the Western world, wellness often gets reduced to numbers: steps, calories, reps, hours of sleep.
But Rich argues that true wellness, like the kind that leads to sustained happiness, starts with learning how to listen to your body.
“We’ve been taught to push, grind, and ignore signs of fatigue,” Rich explains. “But your body is always communicating with you. If you don’t learn how to listen to simple warning signs like fatigue or pain, you’ll burn out just trying to “push through” and “tough it out.”
This isn’t a guess. Rich lived it firsthand.
At 19, he was in peak physical shape, training for an MMA fight and doing everything the fitness industry said to do. But days before stepping into the ring, he hit a wall that was so severe, he almost collapsed.
Rich was beyond tired. He was completely drained.
“Every test said I was healthy,” he recalls. “But I woke up every day with zero energy. I was doing everything ‘right,’ and I still felt wrong.”
A Shift in Focus: From Force to Flow
Through deep meditation and a 4-hour Kundakini Awakening, Rich realized he wasn’t just “chasing” wellness. He was also running away from subconscious fears, a negative mindset, and plenty of anxious thoughts. This frantic avoidance was keeping him off-balance and effectively stopping him from feeling his best.
“Our mind is like a computer. If we want to be happy, we need to remove negative programs like fear and worry. Then we can start replacing them with positive thoughts and optimism,” Rich explains.
Following this philosophy, he created a system to not only harmonize the mind but recharge the body at the same time. He calls it the Muscle Release System (MRS): a series of short, 5-10 minute routines designed to release deep muscle tension, decompress the spine, open circulation, and clear the mind.
From his burnout, Rich learned that “stretching doesn’t work” as effectively as one would hope. Despite best efforts, people so often end up accumulating a lifetime of muscle and spinal tension that block our blood, oxygen, nutrient, and energy flow.
“On the road to happiness, we also need to address pent-up emotions and negative self-programming,” Rich says. “These can block our ability to enjoy life.”
Rich Chi’s MRS also includes breathing techniques and meditation. And in the process of opening up years of tension in the body, Rich has seen pent-up emotions and mental blocks get cleared along the way.
Feeling Better in the Body = Feeling Better in Life
There’s a direct link between tension and emotional well-being. According to the Harvard Health Blog, chronic muscle tension can increase stress levels and disrupt sleep, two factors that directly impact mood and mental health.
Rich’s clients consistently report that as their bodies start to feel lighter and more open, their minds do, too.
“Tension creates blockages and when things stagnate, it can literally block our happiness,” Rich explains. “But once you get things moving and learn to recharge daily, your body, mind, and spirit all start to work together.”
Five Pillars of The New Wellness
To guide clients toward that feeling, Rich uses a five-pillar framework he calls “The New Wellness.” “Wellness is what you do on a daily basis.” Rich reminds. So in his Recharging Wellness Coaching, he helps people address their:
- Sleep
- Nutrition
- Physical Activity & Flexibility
- Energy Circuits & Blockages
- Emotions, Relationships, and The Mind
Recently, Rich has started working with masters who, as he says, “can literally shoot electricity out of their hands.”
“The body is truly electric,” he says. “So if you want to function optimally, you need to address the energy circuits in your body — many of which lead to the mind for optimal mood and focus.”
Support That’s Different
Rich’s Recharging Wellness Coaching program is designed to help people implement these pillars in a real, sustainable way. Clients can receive:
- A Personalized Nutrition Plan built by Rich himself
- A Personalized Fitness Plan with his training as a personal trainer
- A daily Muscle Release System plan based on their specific flexibility needs
- Weekly one-on-one Coaching Calls
- Text support for encouragement, positivity, and accountability
He includes mindful exercises like gratefulness, meditation, and ancient breathing techniques in addition to physical activity and all the other areas of a healthy lifestyle.
As Rich explains it, the goal “is to help you build a life that not only builds physical wellness, but happiness as well.”

Happiness is Already There; It Just Needs to Be Uncovered
Rich believes that happiness isn’t something you chase. It’s something you simply uncover by opening up blockages, many times which are simply caused by muscle tension in your body.
“Our true state is happy,” Rich insists. “It just gets blocked over time.”
As life goes on, not only do we accumulate tension in the body, but tension in the mind and heart as well. Rich says you need to have an outlet for your frustrations, talk through emotions, and remove muscle and spinal tension. Once that happens? “Happiness just bubbles out — like a fountain that just got unclogged!”
The Key to Happiness?
The key to happiness isn’t hidden in some overpriced wellness guru seminar. “You just have to remove the blockages in order to experience the happiness within you were born with!” Rich assures.
The body / mind connection works both ways. “When we think positively and experience emotions like love, happiness and joy, we can feel better physically. Conversely, when our body is happy, it’s much easier for your mind and spirit to be happy too.”
And that, Rich says, is the goal.
