How Ryann Murphy Excels as a Multi-Sport Student-Athlete

Ryann Murphy wakes up at 4:30 a.m. every morning. By 5 a.m., she is already training. The sophomore at Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in Syracuse, New York, competes as a varsity student-athlete in both basketball and lacrosse while maintaining a 3.7 GPA. Her schedule demands structure, and she delivers it every day.

Murphy earned a starting varsity point guard role as a freshman. She scored a game-winning overtime lacrosse goal in eighth grade. These early accomplishments signal a student-athlete who thrives under pressure and continues to grow with each season.

How Murphy Became a Varsity Basketball Leader

Murphy stepped into the starting point guard position on CBA’s varsity basketball team during her freshman season. She averaged 13.4 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals per game this season as a sophomore.  Her defensive intensity earned her a selection to the All-Defensive Team. She helped lead her team to the sectional championship game finishing with an overall record of 18 & 5.

Her high IQ and vision on the court and field set her apart from other players in her class. Murphy reads defenses quickly and creates scoring opportunities for teammates. She plays with composure in high-pressure moments, a quality that coaches notice in a young player still developing her game.

A Lacrosse Career That Started Early

Murphy joined CBA’s varsity lacrosse roster in eighth grade. During that season, she scored a game-winning overtime goal against Westhill. That moment offered an early look at her ability to perform when the stakes are high.

She competes year-round with Monsters Elite-Purple Lacrosse Club out of Rochester, a program recognized nationally for developing competitive players. Murphy earned a selection to the American Select Upstate New York Team in back-to-back years, where she received all tournament recognition. This past fall, USA Lacrosse selected her for the U17 National Team. She made an immediate impact and helped the team finish undefeated across two tournaments. Ryann is recognized as one of the best mid-fielders in the 28’ class.

These experiences sharpen her skills against high-level competition. For a student-athlete still in her sophomore year, the exposure to national-level play builds both confidence and game awareness that translate back to her high school seasons.

Why Discipline Defines Murphy’s Daily Routine

Murphy follows a strict daily schedule. She wakes at 4:30 a.m. and begins training at 5 a.m. before heading to school. After classes, she attends practice for whichever sport is in season. Evenings are reserved for homework and rest.

“Being a dual-sport athlete has really taught me how to manage my time and stay disciplined,” Murphy said. “I stick to a routine and stay focused on my goals long-term. Consistency, not just talent, is what separates you.”

This discipline extends beyond athletics. As a student-athlete carrying a 3.7 GPA, Murphy applies the same focus to her academics. She views time management as a skill that dual-sport competition forced her to develop early. That structure now shapes how she approaches every part of her day.

What the Moneyball Sportswear Partnership Represents

Murphy recently signed her first NIL partnership with Moneyball Sportswear. The deal aligns with how she approaches competition and preparation.

“Representing Moneyball Sportswear means a lot to me because it matches how I approach everything I do,” Murphy said. “‘Elite is earned and the only way to ball’ is something I truly stand on. Nothing is given. Everything comes from hard work and consistency.”

For a young student-athlete, an NIL partnership serves as a platform to build a personal brand alongside athletic development. Murphy’s alignment with Moneyball Sportswear reflects her identity as a competitor who values discipline, preparation, and earned achievement.

The partnership also positions Murphy within a growing movement of student-athletes who use NIL opportunities to establish their presence early in their careers. Her commitment to training, academics, and community representation makes her a natural fit for a brand centered on performance and purpose.

Inspiring Young Athletes Through Representation

Murphy is open about her desire to inspire younger athletes, particularly African American girls, to pursue competitive sports with confidence.

“I want to show other athletes that it’s possible to chase big goals if you’re willing to put in the work,” she said. “I really want to inspire more African American young girls to believe in themselves and see that they can compete at an elite level too. Representation matters, and I want my journey to motivate others to stay disciplined, stay confident, and go after everything they want.”

Her record supports that message. Competing on the USA Lacrosse U17 National Team, earning varsity spots in two sports before high school, and maintaining strong academics create a visible example for aspiring student-athletes across the country.

Murphy credits her family for shaping her values. Her father, Rob Murphy, has spent over 30 years in basketball and serves as her primary role model. Her mother, TeNesha, works as a Public Information Officer for New York State Transportation. Both parents provide examples of professionalism and dedication that Murphy carries into her own pursuits.

What Comes Next for Ryann Murphy

Murphy has already attracted attention from several prominent women’s lacrosse programs, including Syracuse, Florida, Penn State, Michigan, and Stanford. As a sophomore student-athlete with national-level experience in lacrosse and a strong basketball career, her recruiting profile continues to develop.

Her daily habits, competitive record, and academic standing position her as a student-athlete prepared for the demands of collegiate competition. Murphy’s path forward will depend on the same qualities that define her now: discipline, consistency, and work.
