What was it like for you on a personal level to share your story with the world in ‘Journey to the West: The Biography of Kathy Phuong Luu’?
I was touched, proud, and flooded with memories, achieving this goal feels like a dream come true. My checklist is complete.
Besides being a successful author you are the owner of Spa Logic, what principles or values guide your approach to entrepreneurship?
The guiding principles in my life are morality, kindness, and respect, with honesty being the best quality.
How do you balance the demands of running a successful business with maintaining a strong connection to your family and community?
Honestly, we can’t have it all. I’m deeply rooted in my community. I believe in the power of community support and spreading the word together. On the family side, I’m saddened to admit that I don’t see my parents as much as I would like, but I’m grateful they’re in good health. Even in my own relationship, I was too caught up in building my business, pouring much of my love and passion into it. I have 35 staff members that I am responsible for and I take that very seriously. I didn’t realize I forgot to prioritize my own family life until it was too late. When I finally tried IVF, it didn’t work because I was working too much.
In what ways do you hope your story and your book will inspire others who are facing adversity or pursuing their dreams?
I hope they’ll realize they can overcome obstacles with determination, sincerity, and honesty with themselves. When they do this, everything else falls into place.
Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you give to young immigrants or refugees who are navigating similar challenges today?
Be grateful. Never forget where you come from and always help others. Your generosity will come back to you in unexpected ways. Be a go-getter; if you want more for your future – go after it. Take every opportunity to learn, and observe the world around you. Never take life and people for granted.
