Cheung holds an Artist Diploma and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the prestigious University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He also earned a Master of Music and a Bachelor of Music (Honor) in Piano Performance from the Royal College of Music in London. This formidable educational background is the bedrock of his illustrious career, shaping his dual focus on performance and pedagogy.
In his own words, Cheung’s inclination for music stems from a “deep-seated desire to explore compositions that resonate with my inner being.” His passion for music is palpable in every performance and teaching session, and his journey began in his teenage years when he immersed himself in various instruments, including the double bass and organ. His love for orchestral compositions led him to explore grand works like Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, inspiring him to perform a transcription of this monumental piece for piano four hands. “Music is not just about notes and rhythms; it’s a journey of self-discovery and connection to something greater than myself,” he reflects.
Among the many creative experiences in his career, one that stands out to Cheung is performing at the Royal Albert Hall’s Classical Coffee Morning series. Sharing the iconic stage with esteemed artists like Lang Lang, Adele, and Sir Elton John was “truly exhilarating,” the atmosphere of a packed house concert made the event unforgettable. Playing on Elton John’s “Red Piano” brought him closer to the legacy of musical excellence that defines the venue.
Cheung’s defining element is his ability to seamlessly balance performance and pedagogy. As a performer, he delivers an artistic and technically proficient experience that captivates audiences. Each performance is a nuanced and expressive journey that leaves a lasting impression.
