Devorah Rose – Editor-in-Chief Social Life Magazine

As the Editor in Chief of Social Life Magazine, Devorah Rose has creatively directed some of the most renowned stars in history – Kim Kardashian, Christie Brinkley, and Brooke Shields, to name a few. But it is the stories behind each cover that truly bring Devorah’s vision for female empowerment and redefining beauty standards to life.

With an eye for talent, Devorah gave Kim for her second magazine cover ever – which was no easy feat. Devorah was the only one who truly believed in Kim’s potential. She fought tooth and nail to sway all those involved with the cover shoot – from the publisher of the magazine to the makeup artist – into seeing Kim as a rising star. Mario Dedivanovic was repeatedly warned by everyone he knew that working with Kim Kardashian would be the end of his career. But Devorah, believing the mega star’s potential, kept convincing Mario over several phone calls about taking the job. Finally, after much deliberation, Mario decided to take a chance and do the shoot. Devorah’s hunch paid off, at the shoot, Mario and Kim not only hit it off, but they left the set to go makeup shopping together. He soon became her go-to makeup artist and one of her best friends. From that day forward, Mario Dedivanovic’s career was made.

“In 1980, Calvin Klein famously suggested Brooke Shields wasn’t wearing any underwear while in their jeans. We are sending a clear message by shooting her unapologetically radiant and body-confident in nothing but Calvin intimates: Brooke is more joyful and empowered now than ever before!”

In 2018, Devorah Rose, the editor-in-chief of Social Life Magazine, reimagined an iconic moment in fashion when she chose to feature Brooke Shields back in Calvin Klein intimates. This was a nod to Calvin’s controversial campaign from decades prior, which used the fifteen-year-old as their muse with the tagline: “What comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” The updated narrative championed the idea of body positivity as it showcased Brooke wearing her underwear proudly while openly discussing how empowered and content in her skin she finally felt. Instead of being objectified, Brooke was championed by Devorah for owning and being proud of her body. Working alongside Brooke, Devorah managed to create a remarkable and inspiring moment through her writing skills and vision for the cover shoot. The message was clear – that women who are in their forties and beyond can find more happiness than they had when they were younger, regardless of what society tells them.

This year Social Life Magazine celebrates its 20th anniversary. This momentous event marks a major milestone for Devorah Rose and Christie Brinkley – the dynamic duo have worked together on an astonishing ten covers in the last decade. Their partnership started in 2013, when body positivity began to gain traction; Devorah Rose was at the forefront as a trailblazer who was leading the way. She made an unprecedented request of supermodel Christie Brinkley—then 59 years old—to pose in a swimsuit for the first time since her iconic Sports Illustrated cover shoot three decades prior. This was a groundbreaking moment that Christie Brinkley has praised Devorah Rose for orchestrating.

Christie Brinkley told the Huffington Post, “Never in a million years did I think I would be in front of a camera in a bathing suit again!” exclaimed Brinkley in between snapping selfies with adoring fans, “Not many people think of women as sexy over a certain age, so when Devorah asked me to get into a swimsuit I was like, “Wait a minute,” but it was the best experience, and I felt so empowered, and it empowers other women too. It’s such a great feeling. It’s been wonderful and I love these images [photographs from July 2017 issue]. Devorah has this incredible eye. She puts together amazing creative concepts and material and then brings together the artists and lets them do their thing. I’m so happy and so proud to be a part of this. I truly thank Devorah for this exciting and unexpected experience.”  Devorah’s idea was so groundbreaking that Sports Illustrated had no choice but to take notice. They saw the potential and knew they had to feature Christie in their coveted swimsuit issue once again, this time alongside her daughters. The world couldn’t believe how stunning Christie looked – age was just a number to her. A decade has passed since Devorah and Christie started their journey, but the two ladies continue to be a beacon of inspiration for many females to recognize their beauty no matter their age.

At first glance, Devorah seems to be one of those untouchable, sleek, well-dressed figures. A perineal jet setter, Devorah divides her time between The Hamptons, Texas, and Miami. She has a wardrobe that most would lust after… However, her endearing quality is the way she effortlessly forms meaningful connections with people, no matter who they are. Devorah is a self-made woman who has evolved from a Boston-by-way-of-Venezuela transplant to a thriving philanthropist and writer whose warmth draws people in like a magnet. But before forming ties with renowned figures, going to glamorous gatherings, and becoming editor-in-chief, Devorah Rose’s story began in Plano, Texas. She was born to a Venezuelan mother and Guatemalan father. At three months old, she moved to Venezuela and returned to the US when she was around six or seven, spending most of her childhood in the Boston area. She graduated from Barnard College with a degree in English before pursuing an MFA in Columbia University’s creative writing program. Years later, she’d go on to become editor-in-chief of Social Life Magazine – a publication in The Hamptons. She currently sits on the boards of the Children’s Museum Houston and Hermann Park Houston. We can’t wait to see what Devorah does next!
