As the seasons begin to change, so can how you spend your free time. Autumn is the time of year when the temperatures get cooler, and the leaves start to change colors. People settle indoors as they prepare for the winter season, meaning they have more time on their hands to take up a new hobby. What better way to celebrate autumn than crocheting a warm blanket, sweater or fall decoration?
The best thing about crocheting during this time of year is that inspiration is all around. Take a look outside. From the red, orange and yellow leaves to the cool breeze in the air, nature is there to help you take on your next project. Studies show that there is even a scientific reason that nature helps people spark their creativity. For example, getting out into nature can help people relax and destress, usually putting them in a mood that stimulates their brain. Being in this state lowers peoples’ heart rate and anxiety, making nature the best source of inspiration.
When people feel emotionally available to take on a new project, the opportunities are endless.
Creativity is a cycle of self-expression and accomplishment. Crocheting is just one outlet that can help people be in tune with themselves. People can put their own spin on things and break out of their comfort zone. Having a craft that keeps people occupied gives them something to look forward to. Life is all about finding joy in the little things, and autumn is the best time of year to appreciate change.
“The best thing about crocheting is that you get out of it what you put into it. Some people crochet just for fun, to practice self-care, or even to sell their masterpieces in a small business. The more effort you put into testing your skills and trying new things, the more opportunities there are for you to create. There is nothing universal about crafting, and that’s what makes it unique for everybody,” says Corey Pearson, Chief Quilt Artist and Brand Ambassador at Linda’s.
There is no limit to what you can crochet. Blankets and sweaters might be a cool thing to make this time of year, but you don’t have to just stick to the basics. You can start on your holiday gifts or crochet something to make your living space a little more you. That’s the beauty of taking up crochet. Once you get comfortable with your skills, there are new ways to test your abilities and break out of your comfort zone. You will never be bored of crocheting because of the endless possibilities.
“With crocheting specifically, people have gotten really creative and are breaking the barriers of the crafting world. People crochet coasters, bags, sweaters, blankets, and even stuffed animals. They can follow patterns or try something completely new, and that’s the great thing about it. People can express their true selves through crocheting. Whatever you set your mind to, crocheting is there to bring it to life,” Pearson says.
Crocheting can also help you stay connected with friends or even create new relationships. Crafting communities are everywhere, and you just have to look for them. It can be hard to put yourself out there, especially during the colder months when most people stay indoors and don’t get out as much. Communities like these exist online right at your fingertips, so a new friendship is only a tap away. Crocheting brings people together more than you know. You don’t necessarily have to search for new connections, but crochet could be a way to grow the ones you already have. Try organizing a crochet night with your friends, where you can all get together and catch up. Community is all around, and crocheting could bridge that gap as fall settles in.
As the season comes around the corner, crochet is something that can help you get into the fall spirit. Whether it’s expressing your creativity or making new friends, there are so many opportunities out there. Take a look around; how can crochet change your life this autumn?
