We sat down with the author herself to understand her journey of writing rooted in faith.

A Moment of Inspiration

Always Abounding feels incredibly personal, raw, and real. 

This is because the book is inspired by personal events throughout Taja’s life. Within a span of three years, Taja faced the loss of her sister, great-grandmother, and godmother. These experiences, marked by grief and further compiled with the uncertainties of the economies, created a heavy burden that Taja and her family grappled with.

Taja spent time talking to her loved ones and friends, and soon, it became evident that she shared a common thread of headache and weakened faith.

Behind every great book, there is a moment of inspiration. Taja found hers, instigating the idea of transforming her and her loved ones’ experiences into a source of strength. She realized that her experiences and obstacles are a beacon of hope for others navigating their trials.

One particular influence is of the Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, who also significantly shaped her perspective during the time.

Michelle’s call for young women like herself to share their stories as a means of empowerment resonated with Taja. Initially, Always Abounding was a devotional book beginning as a series of journal entries. It was a space where she poured out her emotions, whether it was her seeking solace, guidance, or clarity from God. She revisited those entries in her moments of reflection and prayer, noticing recurring themes and patterns. 

And that’s when she recognized the transformative potential of her intimate struggles and triumphs beyond her own journey.

Writing Rooted in Faith 

So, what did Taja’s writing process look like? Most authors struggle to find a muse that acts as a catalyst for their writing process.

Taja’s inspiration for the book was rooted in her faith.

Before she even began putting the words on paper, she spent much time praying and meditating on God’s Word. 

She found herself nervous, initially, struggling with feelings of inadequacy to produce a book. However, throughout the process, she discovered God guided her and provided abundant resources.

Prayer also played a vital role in her writing process. Taja sought God’s guidance and direction throughout, both in the writing and publishing phases. She turned to the Scripture, a constant source of comfort and encouragement. It reminded her of God’s unwavering faithfulness and provision. She connected with Christian book-writing communities online, where she gained valuable tools and resources on how to embark on this journey. 

One pivotal experience was when Taja attended a writing retreat, where a core group of extraordinary ladies provided invaluable feedback on her manuscript. Their insights and support were instrumental in shaping the final outcome. However, the journey had its share of challenges. Taja was hesitant to proceed with publishing after losing her sister, and the emotional toll made the process even more daunting. 

The original publishing date coincided with the onset of the pandemic, impacting shipping and production due to material shortages. Despite these obstacles, Taja pressed on. The delays, while initially disheartening, allowed her to invest even more time and effort into refining the book. In the end, it became a testament to perseverance and the profound impact that faith, prayer, and community support can have on the creative process.
