The accolade recognizes Singh’s significant contributions to the SAP Cyber Security Field. In an exclusive interview, Gaurav Singh reveals his journey, challenges, and cyber security’s future, specifically for SAP/ERP space.
Q: Congratulations on winning the Gold Globee® American Business Award. Can you share what this award means to you and your work?
Gaurav Singh: Thank you. This award is a testament to the countless hours, dedication, and innovative thinking I have poured into my work. It’s an honor to be recognized, and it further bolsters my commitment to enhancing cyber security and privacy, especially for ERP/SAP Space. It encourages me to keep giving back to the cyber community, as we can only make this world a cyber-safe.
Q: Your SAP Cyber Security Field work has received commendable attention. What inspired this focus?
Gaurav Singh: SAP systems are integral to leading businesses worldwide. They are crown jewels of any enterprise, which support critical business processes including finance and accounting, Supply chain, Human Resources, and whatnot, they hold the most sensitive data, yet they often are not given enough cyber attention from cyber and SAP teams; hence they quickly become the target of cyber-attacks. Historically SAP/ERP systems have been within Companies’ firewalls, but with cloud Adoption and more and more SaaS solutions, that is no longer the case; hence I realized the significance of enhancing security in this domain and dedicated my focus to this end.
Q: Can you highlight your challenges while making significant strides in SAP Cyber Security?
Gaurav Singh: Cybersecurity is an ever-evolving field. The biggest challenge is avoiding new threats and vulnerabilities while ensuring minimal disruption to business processes. Balancing innovation with practicality has been a continuous learning experience. Also, Cyber Security for ERP/SAP is a relatively new concept, so there has been a little struggle to bring awareness and let businesses understand that we need to go beyond traditional SAP Security and move towards more Cyber Security for SAP/ERP space.
Q: How do you see the future of Cyber Security, particularly about SAP systems?
Gaurav Singh: The future is about proactive protection and a shared security responsibility model. With increasingly more Cloud adoptions with S4HANA and SAP with Rise, we are moving towards predictive security models that leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning. Integrating these advancements while ensuring robust protection will be the critical focus for SAP systems. Understanding shared responsibility in a cloud model (Private/Public etc.) for different stakeholders is also critical. InfoSec/Cyber world and SAP Security would have to come together and work as a team rather than working in silos to ensure we do our due diligence and care to keep securing the critical SAP systems worldwide.
Q: Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring cybersecurity professionals?
Gaurav Singh: Stay curious, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to innovate. Cyber security is a dynamic field, and success lies in keeping pace with the latest advancements and understanding the intricacies of the digital landscape. SAP Security folks need to be beyond GRC/Compliance and rather be actual Cyber Security folks protecting SAP/ERP Systems.
