Yan Zhou possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, and her fervor for her profession is apparent in all her endeavors. She is proficient in several therapeutic approaches, including complementary treatments for infertility, providing support for IVF/IUI procedures, and tackling persistent issues like stress, anxiety, depression, headaches, and menstrual disorders. As a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner in the state of New York, as well as a board member of the American Acupuncture Association (AAA), Yan is a staunch supporter of preventative medicine. She believes that by addressing health concerns proactively, individuals can lead healthier lives.

“My goal is to alleviate the stress and pressure experienced by my patients. Each patient has unique requirements and needs from me. To prepare the patient’s body for the next menstrual cycle, we split it into four phases, with a focus on the dominant meridians in each phase. In the initial phase, we aim to enhance the kidney essences and spleen Qi, which are vital for prenatal and postnatal energy, to promote and support follicle growth. During the second phase, we nourish the kidney Yin and essences to strengthen maturing follicles. In the third phase, we concentrate on tonifying both kidney Yin and Yang to promote progesterone growth. It’s important to warm the Yang while nourishing the Yin as they cannot exist without each other. During the fourth phase, the liver tends to become constrained, and we focus on spreading liver Qi and removing blood stasis to regulate the forthcoming menstruation. If the patient becomes pregnant, we must ensure that we boost and tonify the Qi and Blood to prevent miscarriage due to a lack of these essential elements,” she said.

After years of grappling with infertility and trying multiple doctors and treatments without success, one of Yan’s patients discovered a glimmer of hope in finally realizing her dream of starting a family when she sought out Yan’s expertise.

Yan devised a thorough treatment regimen, utilizing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, to aid the patient in her journey to conceive. Over the course of several months, Yan collaborated closely with the patient, addressing any underlying health issues and supporting her body’s innate ability to become pregnant. Thanks to the patient’s commitment to the treatment plan and Yan’s adeptness in traditional Chinese medicine, the patient received the exciting news of her pregnancy after only six months. This marked a pivotal moment for the patient and her partner, who, after years of letdowns and vexation, could finally envision the possibility of having a family.

Yan’s extensive knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine and her unwavering dedication to providing exceptional patient care distinguishes her as a true pioneer in her field. Whether it’s aiding a patient in conquering infertility, easing chronic pain, or addressing any other health concern, Yan approaches each case with empathy, attentiveness, and an unrelenting commitment to achieving the most favorable outcome for her patients.
