Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: Redefining Rhinoplasty in Brazil

By: Erick Feltron

When you think of Brazil, images of vibrant culture, stunning beaches, and world-class soccer likely come to mind. But beneath the surface of this lively nation lies a quieter, yet equally impressive revolution—one happening in the world of cosmetic surgery. Brazil has become a global hub for rhinoplasty, attracting patients from all corners of the globe who seek more than just a cosmetic tweak; they’re after a transformation that blends art, precision, and personal care.

At the forefront of this industry is Dr. Guilherme Scheibel, a renowned otolaryngologist and rhinoplasty specialist based in Maringá. Unlike the hustle and bustle of Rio or São Paulo, Maringá offers a serene backdrop for those who come in search of aesthetic perfection, and Dr. Scheibel has made it his mission to deliver just that.

Dr. Scheibel’s approach to rhinoplasty is anything but conventional. While many surgeons might focus solely on the technical aspects of the procedure, he believes in something more profound—creating results that don’t just look good today but continue to look natural and beautiful over time. “Our patients don’t just want an improvement; they’re looking for something close to perfection,” he says. And in a world where social media drives beauty standards, achieving this level of excellence has made Dr. Scheibel’s techniques highly sought after, both in Brazil and internationally.

But what really sets Dr. Scheibel apart isn’t just his technical skill—though that’s certainly impressive. It’s his philosophy that each patient deserves more than just a surgical procedure; they deserve an experience. His practice in Maringá is designed to make every patient feel like they’re part of something special, not just another case on the roster. This personal touch, combined with his innovative approach to rhinoplasty, has earned him a reputation as one of the leading figures in the field.

Interviewer: Dr. Scheibel, it’s a pleasure to speak with you today. We’d like to understand what makes Brazilian rhinoplasty techniques so unique and sought after globally. To start, what distinguishes the Brazilian approach to rhinoplasty?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: The Brazilian culture of beauty has deeply impacted the techniques we have developed. Our patients no longer accept just an improvement; they want perfection. While we say perfection doesn’t exist, achieving a natural result that doesn’t look like rhinoplasty is closest to perfection. With the advent of social media, achieving this feat leads to significant national and international demand, as beauty is universally recognized. Our patients also seek results that are lasting. Traditional techniques often result in noses that change significantly over time. Our techniques achieve more definitive results.

Interviewer: Can you tell us about the historical development of rhinoplasty techniques in Brazil and how they have evolved over the years?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: When I started in rhinoplasty 10 years ago, the techniques in Brazil were mainly resective, involving the removal of cartilage, which did not deliver satisfactory results and worsened over time by weakening the nose’s structure. I began to think about new concepts of structure and standardization of results, which culminated in sculptural rhinoplasty. A method that uses engineering concepts to achieve much more precision, predictability, and naturalness in the results.

Interviewer: What specific skills or expertise do Brazilian rhinoplasty surgeons possess that set them apart on the global stage?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: I believe it is our artistic vision and our warmth. Many of my foreign patients say that in consultations they had with doctors in their countries, they felt like just another number, but with us, they said they felt like part of our family. It’s clear that we love what we do and how our treatment is excellent and our facilities luxurious. Here we deliver an experience, not just a surgery.

Interviewer: How has the demand for rhinoplasty in Brazil changed in recent years, particularly from international patients?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: With patients becoming more demanding and seeing through social media how our results are beautiful and natural, without excessively lifted, projected, or undefined tips, but everything just right, customized for each patient, they become enchanted with our work and come from all over the world to operate with us because they understand that the nose will be something they carry in the middle of their face for the rest of their lives and know it’s worth the investment. Moreover, everyone is charmed by the city where I operate, Maringá, which is an oasis within Brazil, beautiful, very safe, and voted three times the best city in the country to live in.

Interviewer: Are there any particular cultural or aesthetic preferences in Brazil that influence the way rhinoplasties are performed compared to other countries?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: I believe that Brazilians like well-defined noses, but without exaggeration. Many end up making the nose more pointed or lifted because of this, but not me. I will say again that beautiful is natural, and I always try to adapt the result to my patient’s face. I usually say that the biggest compliment is when my patients say that people tell them they look prettier but can’t pinpoint what has changed in their face, so natural it looks.

Interviewer: What role does patient consultation play in ensuring a successful outcome, especially with international patients who may have different aesthetic expectations?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: For this, we do an online consultation with a simulation of the result on the photos that were sent. I simulate the nose from seven different angles so that my patients can see with precision everything I intend to change and have more confidence that I can deliver the result they are looking for.

Interviewer: How do you address concerns about post-operative care and follow-up for international patients who travel to Brazil for rhinoplasty?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: We explain everything in consultation, so our appointments last about three hours, apart from psychological welcoming, WhatsApp support, concierge, and teleconference sessions with the team to clarify all doubts and prepare everything so that our patients have the utmost comfort, practicality, and security when coming to operate with us. We offer services from private drivers, beauty salon, drainage, taping, and facial lasers with our physiotherapist so that they not only have the best recovery but also the best experience and feel cared for at all times.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to someone considering traveling to Brazil for a rhinoplasty procedure?

Dr. Guilherme Scheibel: I would say what my international patients say: ‘it was the best choice I could have made.’

Moreover, all my international patients have been more than satisfied with the results of their rhinoplasties and recommend their family and friends to operate with us. This is due not only to the quality of the work performed but also to the continuous support we offer. Our concierge team, for example, helps organize the entire trip, including accommodation, transfers, restaurants, and leisure activities adapted during the recovery period, ensuring that each patient has a great experience.
