How Creativity, Perseverance, and a Love of Beauty Are Helping a Ukrainian Makeup Artist Build Her Path to Success

Since childhood, Tetyana Pits has known that her calling lies in the world of beauty. Her fascination with cosmetics began at an early age, and over time, that passion only intensified. Today, Tetyana can spend hours in cosmetic stores, carefully evaluating each product she chooses for her work. Her goal is to find products that meet professional standards, without being swayed by advertising or brand popularity. For Tetyana, beauty isn’t about expensive brands, but about selecting the finest products for her clients, regardless of their price tag.

Tetyana’s journey as a makeup artist began in 2016, and since then, she has steadily advanced in her career. However, her path was not without challenges. The birth of her child, the global pandemic, and the situation in Ukraine occasionally caused her to step back from her professional activities, slowing her progress. As a mother, Tetyana constantly balances her family responsibilities with her work, sometimes delaying her professional growth. Despite these hurdles, she works tirelessly to improve her skills and takes steps closer to her dreams every day.

When Tetyana moved to the United States, she was unsure if she would find demand for her work as a makeup artist. While she looked for opportunities in beauty salons, she also worked in a cleaning company to support herself. “Don’t be afraid of any work at the beginning,” Tetyana says. “This experience makes you appreciate your work even more and teaches you new things.” She encourages newcomers to avoid taking on different jobs, as every experience can be useful.

“I’m only on the way to achieving my goals,” Tetyana reflects, “but this path is full of challenges. I’m learning to be confident in myself and overcoming my perfectionism because perfection comes with experience.” Her desire for flawless results often slowed her progress, as she meticulously aimed for perfection. Additionally, learning English has been challenging for her, as the lack of stable communication has made it difficult to practice the language regularly. Nevertheless, Tetyana believes that perseverance and patience will lead to success.

In the United States, Tetyana is actively growing her career, creating new connections, and gaining valuable experience. She has already had the opportunity to work at significant events such as New York Fashion Week and Ukrainian Fashion Week. Every day, she meets new people, drawing inspiration from her clients and colleagues. However, Tetyana knows that the life of a makeup artist goes beyond simply applying makeup. It also requires knowledge in additional fields—such as hairdressing, photography, videography, social media, and even psychology. 

“The work of a makeup artist is not just about customer service,” Tetyana shares. “We create beauty and help people feel more confident. It’s a creative process that requires respect and understanding between the client and the artist.” Tetyana takes pride in building trust with her clients, ensuring that each experience is not only beautiful but also meaningful.

One of Tetyana’s significant achievements is the freedom that comes with her profession. As a makeup artist, she has the flexibility to work anywhere in the world, create her own schedule, and share her knowledge with others. She is proud to have chosen a career that allows her to travel, explore the world of beauty, and teach others the art of makeup.

“I haven’t achieved everything I dream of yet,” she says, “but every day, I’m one step closer to my goals. And the most important thing for me is to become a confident, successful, and well-known makeup artist while remaining true to myself, my principles, and my values.”
