Although his career is still in its early stages, spanning five years, his dedication to his craft offers a glimpse into the hard work and perseverance often required in the aviation industry.
Trajai’s journey began with a childhood surrounded by airplanes. Growing up in Brazil, his uncle worked for Embraer and often took him and his family to local aviation fairs. Though he could not have known it at the time, this early exposure would eventually inspire him to enter the same industry, piloting the very aircraft his uncle helped to manufacture. Later, Trajai’s path took him to the United States, where he embarked on the demanding process of earning his pilot’s license.
By thoroughly studying the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) handbook, as well as aerodynamics, meteorology, and aircraft mechanics, he worked diligently to turn his dream of flying into a reality. After many hours of flight training, Trajai honed his skills under the careful guidance of instructors whose role he would later assume. “The initial flight training can be quite demanding, both physically and mentally,” Trajai reflects. “It’s a continuous learning process, and you need to be prepared to face the challenges. While a strong foundation in theory is important, developing practical skills and sound judgment for making informed decisions in the air is equally essential.”
After accumulating a substantial amount of flight hours, Trajai demonstrated a high level of proficiency in the sky. It was during this time that he decided to pursue a career as a flight instructor. For someone who has always been determined to follow his dreams, securing this position seemed like a natural next step. While the course required a deep understanding of both instructional techniques and aviation, Trajai approached it with the same respect and discipline that had guided his earlier training. He showed up on time and always kept an open mind.
“Becoming a Flight Instructor is a significant milestone,” Trajai explains. “It’s not just about being a skilled pilot; it’s about learning how to communicate your knowledge effectively to others. You need to be patient, adaptable, and willing to adjust your approach to suit each student.” The process of becoming a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) is governed by a detailed set of regulations set by the FAA. However, Trajai’s dedication to learning and his desire to foster the growth of others helped him navigate the written exams and practical flight tests. Ultimately, he was able to demonstrate a solid understanding of aviation regulations, flight procedures, and instructional techniques.
After completing this challenging process, Trajai now considers himself an experienced Flight Instructor. He devotes much of his time to shaping the future of aviation by working with a diverse range of students, from those aspiring to become commercial pilots to those looking to fly for recreation. Trajai tailors his approach to each individual, striving to set them on a path toward success.
“Every student is different,” Trajai observes. “Some students seem to grasp concepts quickly, while others may need more time. As an instructor, it’s important to identify their strengths and weaknesses and adapt my approach accordingly. I try to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes—because that’s part of the learning process.”
Trajai’s teaching philosophy extends beyond simply passing on technical knowledge. He emphasizes the importance of ongoing improvement—a key trait for modern pilots. With the aviation industry constantly evolving, staying updated on regulations and procedures requires an ongoing commitment to learning.
“You never stop learning in aviation,” Trajai says. “Whether you’re a student pilot or a seasoned instructor, there’s always more to discover. I make it a point to stay current on the latest regulations, procedures, and technologies, and I encourage my students to do the same.”
Looking ahead, Trajai is particularly focused on addressing the growing pilot shortage and encouraging diversity within the aviation workforce. He believes that making aviation accessible to people from all walks of life is essential for the future of the industry. “We need to inspire the next generation of pilots,” Trajai says. “We need to show them that aviation is not only a career but also a passion and a way of life. Additionally, it’s crucial to make aviation accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or financial situation.”
Trajai hopes to continue supporting the next generation of pilots by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset they need to succeed. He views his work as more than just a profession—it’s a calling.
“Being a Flight Instructor is rewarding,” Trajai concludes. “I get to share my passion for flying and help others achieve their goals. Watching my students take their first solo flight or earn their pilot’s license is truly fulfilling. I’m proud to be part of their journey, and that motivates me to keep going.”
