In a world shadowed by exploitation and suffering, there emerges a beacon of possibility: You Are My Light Foundation & Trust (YAML). Founded in 2021, this faith-based nonprofit exists not merely to rescue, but to restore—empowering survivors of human trafficking and labor slavery to reclaim their fundamental rights to life, freedom, education, and autonomy.
A Founder’s Transformation
At the heart of this organization lies the compelling journey of its founder, Orly Amor—a survivor whose life story defies the bleakness of victimhood. Once herself a victim of abuse, she emerged as a self-made entrepreneur and social influencer. Her experiences, both painful and redemptive, shape the very purpose and passion of YAML.
Her story is not one of quiet resilience, but bold advocacy. She has seen firsthand the darkest nights; now, she guides the way for others to walk out of the shadows. It is this personal conviction and clarity of mission that drives YAML, turning it from a charitable initiative into a lifeline for the broken.
Mission That Builds More Than Shelters
YAML’s vision is neither abstract nor distant. At its core, the Foundation is constructing “safe, healing, and rehabilitation centers” for rescued survivors of sex and labor slavery.
These are not merely safe houses; they are sanctuaries where transformation can take root. Here, survivors learn life skills and receive educational opportunities—each a stepping-stone toward restoring honor, dignity, and autonomy that oppression sought to erase.
A Vision of National Impact
The dream is ambitious, and by design. Over the next decade, YAML aims to become a leading force in rehabilitation in America, helping hundreds of survivors through a nationwide network of secure healing centers and educational infrastructure.
This vision signals more than scaling up services. It marks a new approach in the fight against modern-day slavery—one where survivors are not hidden or forgotten, but actively supported toward self-sufficient futures.
Three Steps Toward Wholeness
The organization’s approach is thoughtful, structured, and deeply compassionate, unfolding in three deliberate steps:
Assessment – Survivors enter a “welcome back to life” experience that includes a holistic evaluation of their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. Detox and counseling begin, and a small gift seeks to restore a sense of normalcy.
Healing – Over a period of 6 to 12 months, survivors embark on a journey of recovery. Education, arts, music, and professional training are tailored to each individual—not just for therapy, but for empowerment.
Autonomy – The final step is not just recovery, but renewal. YAML equips survivors to chart their own paths, fostering independence through the skills, support, and financial aid necessary to rebuild their lives—and help ensure they are never exploited again.
Lighting the Way
The foundation’s name—You Are My Light—is more than symbolic. It speaks of bearing light into the darkest places. From victim to advocate, innocence shattered but rebuilt, YAML serves as a testament to what healing looks like when backed by vision, dignity, and faith.
Orly Amor’s own journey—personal, precarious, purposeful—gives the Foundation its authenticity. Her leadership ensures the organization does not merely treat symptoms of trauma, but tends to its root, building lives that stand firmly on the principle of freedom.
Why It Matters
Human trafficking and labor slavery are among the most insidious crimes, thriving in the shadows and targeting the vulnerable. While legal interventions and law enforcement are vital, survivors often face years—and even lifetimes—of emotional and psychological aftershocks.
By centering rehabilitation, education, purpose, and autonomy, You Are My Light addresses these wounds with compassionate empathy. In effect, it disrupts cycles of exploitation before they can begin anew—with survivors not just healed, but hopeful.
A Call to Reflect and Act
As the Foundation unfolds its vision across America, YAML offers a charge to the rest of us: Illuminate the world where darkness presides. Whether through support, advocacy, or awareness, there is a role to be played.
In the coming years, as YAML aims to become a national force, it invites us into accountability and action. This is not a mission of distant charity, but of personal and collective relevance. And in the face of such purpose, indifference is no longer an option.
In a tapestry of broken lives, You Are My Light Foundation & Trust threads redemption through sturdy, soulful service. In the words of its founder’s journey—from survivor to advocate—YAML is itself a promise: that with care, courage, and conviction, survivors can reclaim their light—and walk unafraid into tomorrow.
