Breaking Barriers, Building Dreams: Yunxiang Fei’s Entrepreneur Journey from Immigrant Student to Healthcare Innovator

For many people around the world, life in America seems like total bliss. The American Dream, with its promise of prosperity and success, has beckoned countless individuals since the foundation of the United States. When Yunxiang Fei left his hometown in China to pursue his American Dream on the other side of the earth, he had no idea that he would one day become an entrepreneur, charting a course in the world of healthcare technology.

A Journey of an Asian Immigrant’s Ambition and Adaptation

Yunxiang’s journey in the U.S. started as a quest for his study at University of Southern California. Like many international students, Yunxiang was no stranger to challenges. 

“Adapting to a new country meant not just academic work but also overcoming culture and language barriers and networking for future job opportunities,” Yunxiang recalls, reflecting on the initial hardships.

But that didn’t stop Yunxiang from fighting for his dreams and goals. He immersed himself in the world of computer science, a field that fascinated him. This period was more than academic pursuit; it was a time of adaptation, learning, and laying the foundation for an ambitious career. 

From University to Wall Street and the Seeds of Innovation Idea

After graduating, Yunxiang’s drive took him to Wall Street, where he joined Goldman Sachs and later JPMorgan Chase. There, he excelled in big data, AI, and financial technologies, making significant contributions.

“Working in the top tier investment bank offers me a distinctive experience, the feeling of hands-on enterprise challenges and the thrill of making decisions that can significantly influence businesses and markets is truly exhilarating” said by Yunxiang.

His time in finance was more than just a professional journey; it sparked a deeper desire to use his skills for socially impactful projects. This aspiration crystallized into a focused ambition to start his own startup.

DentalWise: A Vision Comes to Life

After almost 5 years with big corporates on Wall Street, Yunxiang decided it’s time to turn his focus from finance to healthcare innovation, founding his own startup – DentalWise.

“During my dental visits, I realized how outdated technology was in clinics. I kept asking myself, why can’t we use the latest tech to transform dental care?” Yunxiang explains. This observation, combined with his skills in big data analysis and AI, ignited the idea for DentalWise. an advanced health technology platform aiming to enhance dental care accessibility and efficiency with affordable In-House Payment Plan and AI predict no-show appointment management system for better patient outcomes.

“Our product is a win-win for patients and clinics,” says Yunxiang. “Thinking about how many delayed patients will be benefited from our affordable personalized In-House Payment Plan backed by the innovative AI and credit risk data modeling, while clinics will also free from third-party lenders and fees.” He continued, “And clinics will never have to worry about patients not show up for their appointments because our AI will mostly already predicted it and reassign to new patients.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

Yunxiang’s path took a remarkable turn when he was invited to share his journey and vision at the Penn Wharton China Summit. His story inspiring many, especially young immigrant students and Asian entrepreneurs. Yunxiang’s narrative is a powerful reminder of the possibilities that unfold with determination, hard work, and innovation. “I hope I can inspire more people like me,” Yunxiang said at the summit. “Embracing opportunities, resilience, and innovation can turn dreams into reality, regardless of your starting point.”

The Road Ahead

His venture is more than a business initiative; it’s the embodiment of Yunxiang’s belief that technology can substantially enhance lives nationwide. DentalWise, while still in the early stages, already has attention and support from industry experts and potential investors, including PeakHouse Asset Management and venture capital investors from Unshackled. It also successfully selected by Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub. Yunxiang and his co-founder Ms. Sun envision a future about their startup: “We know there will be more challenges ahead, but with each hurdle, we grow stronger and closer to our goal to becomes synonymous with top-tier, tech-driven dental services, accessible to all.”
