Duo band, Yellow Trash Can or YTC, features the talents of Sony signed songwriter Jitta On The Track, and multi-instrumentalist, Jason Navarrete. The duo entrances their audience into nostalgia as they release songs reminiscent of the late ’90s and early 2000s
“Yellow Trash Can” was originally a company that hired Jason and Jitta for a gig. They were tasked to produce music and print merchandise for the company’s marketing. However, the then Yellow Trash Can tried to run away with Jason and Jitta’s music, leaving them unpaid with over $5,000 worth of clothes and 8 unfinished records.
Despite the negative experience, the pair remained optimistic and decided to turn the whole thing into something worthwhile. Jason and Jitta took Yellow Trash Can’s name and decided to spin gold, running with what they created. The newly established YTC is designed to not only release Jason and Jitta’s music but work on production for other artists as well.
With Jitta, a songwriter signed to Sony, and Jason, Burn Money Music record label owner, teaming up, YTC’s original and authentic sound is a mixture of pop, alt-rock, and hip-hop with a flux of disco now and then. To further their brand, they opened a studio in North Hollywood with 808 Mafia’s Purps and started landing placements for production and songwriting.
“Our goal is to release music that forces you into a nostalgic state that overwhelms your body with a feeling that “man, I used to listen to music like this all the time back in the day,” or “This reminds me of (Drop your favorite late 90’s pop / early 2000’s alt-rock band name here)”,” Jason says.
Six months later, YTC has already been locked in the studio with the talents of BlocBoy JB, ILoveMakonnen, Chad Tepper, and Portland’s own emo-lit lovechild Keith Canva$. Featuring drum and guitar work from Tripilz and Wyatt Servis, and tambourine from well-known skater Tony Hawk, YTC has also just released their first single entitled “Populated.” The song is available on most music streaming sites and will be followed by their upcoming single, “Alone,” which is coming out in two weeks.
YTC is notably the only band in Portland that is working with artists of the same caliber that they have been in the studio with. Their unique sound and in-demand production techniques will hit fans of music giants such as Blink-182, Box Car Racer, Yellowcard, Good Charlotte, Brand New, Tame Impala, Grizzly Bear, Arctic Monkeys, N.E.R.D. and The Neptunes.
“We are hitting a different dynamic sound that brings out nostalgia through your veins to your pores and into a euphoric serotonin release.”
YTC is currently working on producing entire albums for artists that are already established in the industry. The music company is expected to release a ton of upcoming projects featuring Jason and Jitta’s talents along with other artists’, starting with a project that is produced and co-written for Myke Bogan.
