Vanessa Silberman: The Multifaceted Maestro Transforming the Music Industry

In the dynamic world of the music industry, where talent and perseverance reign supreme, Vanessa Silberman emerges as a shining example of both. As a multifaceted artist from Brooklyn, New York (with roots in Los Angeles, California), she encapsulates the essence of a modern musical virtuoso. Silberman is celebrated for her musical talent as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and entrepreneurial acumen as a record label owner. Her narrative is one of artistic excellence, pure drive, and steadfast commitment to her craft, which inspires aspiring artists globally.

Since the 2014 launch of A Diamond Heart Production, her artist development record label, Silberman, has propelled over 85 releases, featuring an eclectic mix of artists such as Tea Eater (with members of Gustaf), Down and Outlaws, Waltzer, Tia Penny, The Resonaters, Carissa Johnson, and Jasno Swarez (of The Vandells), among others. Her leadership has seen the label flourish, expanding into five sub-labels and establishing numerous label/studio collaborations.

In June 2021, Alternative Press Magazine named Silberman and her label as one of ‘11 LGBTQIA+ and Women-Owned Labels that are Changing the Music Industry,’ a testament to her significant impact on the industry and her efforts to promote inclusivity and diversity.

Her industry credentials are impressive, having worked with several music industry giants. Silberman worked as an assistant for hit producer and songwriter Dr. Luke (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Britney Spears) and has engineered for such as Tony Visconti (David Bowie), Kimbra, and Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and worked in some of the world’s well-known studios from Studio 606 in Los Angeles to BOP Recording Studio in South Africa. She also has worked for respected companies and indie labels such as Epitaph Records.

Silberman has been prolific as an artist, having released eight singles between 2020 and 2021 that highlight her extensive musical range. Silberman’s musical style showcases her unique ability to blend influences across genres into a distinct and compelling sound. Her style is often compared to various artists from Nirvana, The Breeders, and Patti Smith to Lana Del Ray, and more recently, Metric, Sylvan Esso, and St. Vincent. Her dedication to her art is evidenced by her rigorous touring schedule, having performed over 800 shows across the U.S., UK, and Europe from 2015 to 2020. This tireless work ethic was recognized by Audio Femme, which named her one of the hardest-working bands in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Silberman has also made her mark on stages such as the Vans Warped Tour, SXSW, and iHeartRadio NYC, among others and opening for acts such as Alkaline Trio. Beyond her performances, she has contributed to the industry through speaking and panel discussions at events hosted by organizations, including Today at Apple and Soundgirls, aiming to empower the next generation of musicians.

In 2022, Silberman ventured into a new project, forming the alternative pop duo Lovecolor with actor and musician Ryan Carnes. This collaboration has further solidified her position in the contemporary pop world, with the duo releasing singles and videos and touring the U.S.

In addition to Lovecolor, Silberman continues pursuing her solo music, having just released the ‘Halo‘ track. The message of ‘Halo’ is compassion and empathy, and it is about channeling emotions into love, light, hope, and uplifting music. The lyrics reflect what Silberman has processed internally about the hardships people endure due to war.

‘Halo’ reflects on the desire to alleviate the suffering of others, contemplating the possibility of eradicating pain, anger, loss, and hurt. The song also considers whether fostering communication and embracing vulnerability could contribute to a peaceful shift on the planet, replacing violence. Silberman’s initial attempt to write a song about love proved unsuccessful. However, once she surrendered control and embraced her genuine vulnerability, the lyrics and melody flowed effortlessly.

Vanessa Silberman’s journey is remarkable, encapsulating the true spirit of a multi-talented artist. From producing records and running successful labels to engineering sessions with some of the big names in the industry and performing hundreds of live shows, she exemplifies what it means to be a versatile and influential figure in music. With her continued contributions and no signs of slowing down, Vanessa Silberman’s impact is set to resonate widely, making her a name to familiarize yourself with if you haven’t already.
