Los Angeles-based production company Unreal Imagine Inc.—known for viral mobile hits like The Affair Zone and Got Pregnant with My Ex-Boss’s Baby—has officially wrapped production on the first season of its new romantic drama Love At Midlife.
The series follows Laney, a struggling single mother in her 40s, and James Feldman, a billionaire CEO hiding his identity while preparing for retirement. What begins as a marriage of convenience evolves into a heartfelt journey of healing, self-worth, and unexpected love. Interwoven with themes of betrayal, toxic family dynamics, and class divide, Love At Midlife aims to present a richer emotional landscape than typical mobile-first dramas. Early in development, the project already attracted attention from multiple platforms.
With the conclusion of Season 1, Unreal Imagine Inc. has greenlit development on a second season. Joining the team in key creative roles are acclaimed director Mrunal Mestri and cinematographer/post supervisor Haoyang Sun—marking their third collaboration after previous successes on The Affair Zone and The Chain of Love.

Mestri, whose accolades include multiple Telly Awards for her direction of Galón, brings a sharp eye for emotional nuance and female-driven narratives. Sun, widely recognized for his dual expertise in cinematography and post-production, will lead the show’s visual direction through the whole production. His involvement will focus on enhancing the emotional tone through lighting language. Sun noted: “With this project, we’re aiming to create a visual language that reflects the characters’ emotional evolution—warm, poetic, and quietly cinematic. In the principle photography, we plan to get low contrast and high key lighting, make sure all colors are vivid, and bring the contrast back in post.”
Unreal Imagine Inc. views Love At Midlife as a pivotal expansion into more emotionally complex and age-diverse stories. While vertical short dramas have long centered on youth-driven fantasies, the company believes there is an underserved market for mature love stories with high production values. The show’s narrative parallels hit series like Grace and Frankie (Netflix), which resonated with older viewers across multiple seasons.
A deeper look at Unreal Imagine Inc.’s evolving strategy reveals a deliberate move to diversify its storytelling across generational lines. The company has built its reputation on data-driven insights from mobile-first platforms such as DramaBox, ShortsWave, and Tallflix—where hits like The Mafia’s Forbidden Virgin reached over 2 million views in its debut week and landed in the trending titles. These metrics have encouraged the studio to broaden its thematic range, identifying new opportunities to serve viewers seeking age-relevant and emotionally rich content.

This shift is more than just a creative pivot; it reflects Unreal Imagine Inc.’s larger mission to shape the future of mobile drama by producing genre-diverse, high-quality stories that can emotionally resonate across demographics. Sun’s expanded role in the upcoming season of Love At Midlife is central to this mission, as his contributions to both visual and technical storytelling help elevate mobile drama into a cinematic art form.
“As someone who has worked across both production and post, I’m deeply excited by the opportunity to bridge these processes from the start,” said Sun. “On platforms where attention is fleeting, crafting emotionally meaningful and visually cohesive stories is more important than ever.”
Even in fragmented viewing scenarios, audiences can still experience immersive emotional engagement. Enabled by this technology, “refined storytelling” is driving mobile dramas to evolve from algorithm-fed disposable content into emotionally resonant narratives with lasting value. When viewers choose to pause during a middle-aged protagonist’s late-night monologue instead of swiping away, Unreal Imagine takes a pivotal step toward realizing its vision of redefining industry standards.
Season 2 of Love At Midlife is slated to begin filming this fall, with additional casting and production details to be announced in the coming weeks.
