Triumph Over Adversity: Mayra Dias Gomes Radiates Strength and Sobriety on FHM USA’s May Cover

The multi-talented Brazilian star opens up about her journey to sobriety and overcoming personal struggles in an exclusive interview with FHM USA.

Mayra Dias Gomes, the Brazilian pro wrestling sensation, best-selling author, and model, is featured on the May cover of FHM USA, where she commemorates her sobriety journey with a stunning photoshoot. This comes after her appearance on the February cover of Playboy Denmark earlier this year.

Mayra, who is widely recognized by wrestling fans as May Valentine, has successfully maintained her sobriety from alcohol for over two years and has been candid about her experiences in her FHM USA interview. She has used her platform to encourage others and raise awareness about addiction and mental health.

At the young age of 16, Mayra published her debut memoir, which touched upon her struggles with addiction and depression. Her difficult journey began after the tragic loss of her father, Oscar-nominated Brazilian writer Dias Gomes, in a car accident when she was just 11 years old. She learned about her father’s passing through an online article.

Determined to pursue her dreams, Mayra moved to Hollywood at 21 to work as a rock journalist after becoming a best-selling author in Brazil at the age of 19. A decade later, she chose to follow her passion for professional wrestling.

Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan discovered Mayra’s talent and brought her into his wrestling company, the NWA, as an on-air host. In a recent interview with E! News, Mayra talked about her battle with depression and addiction, saying, “I had to wrestle my demons to get to where I am today, and want others to know it is possible to do the same. It’s not too late to start something new, and to become the best version of yourself.”
