Tracing the Melodic Footprints of Sage Waters: A Tale Woven through Music

Music has always been the distinctive heartbeat in the life of Sage Waters, playing a significant role in shaping her journey and her extraordinary story. Born from a melding of cultural backgrounds – with a Haitian father and Hungarian, Swedish/Welsh mother from a chicken farm in California – she was raised amidst a potpourri of musical styles. This culturally eclectic upbringing deeply influenced Sage, imbuing her with a lifelong passion for music.

From the tender age of four, Sage was introduced to the graceful cadences of the piano and the powerful harmony of voices intertwining, her mother, a professional choir singer, gesturing her towards the vast expanses of the musical universe. Her childhood years were a symphony of experiences, punctuated by her father’s metallurgic craftsmanship, her mother’s remarkable artistry in teaching, sculpting, and muralism, and a substantial influence of music that stitched it all together.

A curveball was thrown her way at nine, when Sage embarked on a long journey of corrective surgeries due to a knee deformity, stretching up until the age of twenty-two. Amidst the adversity lay a silver lining, for it was in these moments of quiet reflection that Sage found solace in the musical realm through writing poetry and honing her authentic voice.

Fast forward to the age of 19, and Sage found herself juggling an array of responsibilities. From pursuing Fine Arts in sculpting, being on the Swim Team, running her house-cleaning business, to interning at Tarpan studios under Narada Michael Walden, she embraced every opportunity with unbridled enthusiasm. Her dedication was rewarded when she emerged as a highly sought after professional vocalist, working on various projects and earning the nickname of “Little Aretha” in recognition of her vocal prowess.

Her first paid recording gig on a Wynonna Judd album was a testament to her distinctive talent, while her collaborations with renowned industry names like James Brown, Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, and many others signaled her meteoric rise. Throughout her journey, Sage has gained a reputation as a flexible and prolific songwriter, showcasing her deft ability to compose in multiple genres without losing her unique stylistic touch.

Even while navigating the tumultuous waters of the music business, Sage has shown an unwavering commitment towards personal growth and development. This commitment extends beyond her professional arena; as a single mother of two, Sage finds strength and inspiration from her personal experiences to create resonating melodies that strike a chord with her audience.

Along the way, her path crossed with that of Brown Mark from Prince and The Revolution, leading to a fruitful songwriting partnership that saw the duo co-producing a 10-episode podcast. Together, they navigated the impact of losing Prince, planning the Reunion show and nationwide tour in his memory.

In 2016, Sage bagged a two-year license/publishing contract with Spirit Music Group, marking another milestone in her industry journey. With a dynamic career streaming across a decade and counting, Sage Waters now performs actively in Las Vegas. A self-taught guitar player, she juggles her performances with penning original shows and lending her vocal artistry to groups like Vox Vegas.

Notable moments in her recent journey include her collaboration with undefeated welterweight boxer Cody Crowley, resulting in a compelling Fight song representing mental health and suicide prevention awareness. Sage’s dedication towards mental health support provides a deeper insight into her compassion as an artist, adding another layer to her multifaceted persona.

In her present role as the Head of Artist Development and Director of A&R at Strawberry Hill Records Label, Sage continues to empower new artists in their pursuit of success. Guided by her experiences, sage’s fierce determination and melodic mastery are paving the way for a new generation of musicians.

In essence, Sage Waters embodies the rhythm of resilience and the undying spirit of an artist. Rooted deeply in her diverse lineage and nurtured by the many trials she has faced, Sage’s story remains a testament to the transformative power of music.
