Swoovi, born Zack Hoskins, is a Kansas City-based artist whose multifaceted musical career embodies his unique style and passion. As a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Swoovi’s artistry weaves together jazz, rock, pop, and blues with his story and spiritual journey.
From an early age, Swoovi’s love for music shined through, as he excelled in band and choir, becoming first chair in alto saxophone and competing in ensemble jazz and vocal competitions. Early experiences like these laid the foundation for his future work and a passion that would only grow. At the age of 17, Swoovi began writing and arranging songs, initially inspired by hip-hop before blending various influences to create his own vibe.
“My journey has always been about evolution. I started with rap and hip-hop, but as I grew, so did my sound. Now, I create music that crosses genres, from stripped-down acoustic vibes to big band arrangements,” says Swoovi. Versatility gives him a leg up in an industry that is often clustered with artists that stick to one style or genre. His discography, though still in its early stages, reflects a timeline of his personal growth and musical exploration.

But Swoovi’s path hasn’t been without challenges. Coming from a landlocked city like Kansas City, he found support difficult to come by, especially as an independent artist. “You don’t really get love from your city until you make it elsewhere,” he explains, reflecting on his decision to extend his reach beyond his hometown. Working with Brandon Black, a Grammy-nominated producer, has also played a key role in his development. “Having someone believe in my vision made all the difference,” Swoovi adds.
A defining aspect of Swoovi’s life is his dedication to advocating for change, particularly in mental health and education. Growing up with a twin brother who is non-verbally autistic has shaped his desire to improve public school special needs programs. Additionally, his own experiences with mental health struggles have fueled his passion for exploring alternative treatments. “I want to make an impact. It’s not just about music for me—it’s about using my platform for something bigger,” he says.
The term “Swoovi” itself emerged during a deeply reflective moment in Swoovi’s life. “It started as a joke, but it stuck. Swoovi represents a blend of suave and groovy—someone who can chop it up with anyone, whether it’s a suit or a panhandler. That’s how I see myself—relating to everyone,” he explains.
Looking ahead, Swoovi sees limitless potential for his career. He dreams of touring with major acts and becoming an executive producer for artists he believes in. Through his company, “Everything Swoovi INC.,” he aims to launch “Swoovi Records,” a label that will foster new talent and continue to push musical boundaries.
As Swoovi says, “No one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself first.” His journey, marked by resilience, creativity, and a desire to make a difference, serves as inspiration for independent artists everywhere. With a growing discography and an ever-expanding vision, Swoovi is ready to take his music, and his message, worldwide.
