Bachata, once considered a niche genre rooted in the Dominican Republic, has rapidly evolved into a global phenomenon. It remained a regional favorite for decades. However, artists like Romeo Santos, Prince Royce, and most recently, Manuel Turizo began to break cultural and linguistic barriers, introducing millions of people worldwide to its unique sound and bringing a genre once considered niche into the mainstream.
Singer/songwriter Sebas Garreta is one of these singers redefining what it means to be a bachata artist in the 21st century. Born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, at 27, Sebas has become one of the genre’s most promising and admired figures, taking bachata beyond its traditional borders. In his songs, Garreta combines the emotional depth and energy of bachata with a modern and authentic style.
With his debut album, “Estaba Escrito,” Sebas took a major step toward the internationalization of his career, embarking on a tour that has taken him across Europe and Latin America—a success few artists his age can claim.
“Estaba Escrito” includes singles with a unique freshness and originality and a style that fuses the genre’s traditional sounds with modern arrangements. His album includes deep and personal lyrics that connect with his audience in each song.
Shortly after releasing his first bachata album, Garreta quickly gathered a large global fan base, including many who had never considered themselves bachata fans.
This project has taken him on an extensive tour throughout Europe, reaching countries like Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary, Lithuania, and Portugal. He has also won over audiences in Latin America, where his music has been enthusiastically received in countries like Mexico and Costa Rica, where he performed on Nov 16th, and Argentina, where he’s currently touring and performing at the Goldencenter in Buenos Aires. This international expansion has been a decisive step for the Mallorcan singer.
Sebas Garreta stands out not only for his studio work but also for his on-stage presence. With a powerful voice and dynamic and engaging performances, he creates a unique atmosphere and an unforgettable experience for his fans at every concert.
His music, which includes singles like “Esa Flaquita,” “Bailando Mátame,” “Dime, ¿Qué Nos Pasó?,” “Te Amé,” and covers of songs by other artists such as Alejandro Sanz’s “Corazón Partío,” Laura Pausini’s “Se Fue,” Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” and many more, has reached millions of streams in 2024.
In recent years, bachata has seen a remarkable transformation. It blends traditional rhythms with modern elements like pop, R&B, and reggaeton, performed by singers such as Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and even Usher. This fusion has made the genre more accessible to a broader audience.
For 2025, Sebas Garreta already has over 30 confirmed concerts, and new dates keep coming in.
Currently, the Spanish singer is preparing a series of collaborations with other well-known singers.
But this Sebas is not only a singer/songwriter, he’s also a philanthropist and a poet. In 2022, he published his first book, Versos Sin Beso, a work that reveals his sensitivity and his ability to convey emotions through poetry and prose.
His commitment to social causes has also set him apart as an artist with a sense of social responsibility. Recently, in November 2024, when Spain’s Valencia region suffered devastating floods, Sebas announced through his social media that he would donate all the proceeds from Versos Sin Beso to support the victims of the tragedy.
With a 2025 filled with new collaborations, tours, and projects, the future seems, quite literally, “written” for Sebas Garreta.
