Pheonix has been gaining momentum and is no longer a rockstar rookie.
For fans of Pheonix who are expecting his long-awaited, debut full-length studio album, Closer to Closure, you may not be waiting too much longer. The now 23-year-old songwriter has spent more than 5 years planning and perfecting this new collection of tracks. Well, that’s at least what he told us when we interviewed him last week.
Initially set to be released at the end of August in 2019 under the working name, Magnus Opus, then rescheduled to release in 2022 under a different name, it seems we will finally see this album debut near the end of this year. Pheonix was apologetic while exclaiming, “I felt the direction my team and I were going in wasn’t reflecting itself to a caliber of work as special as I had originally desired and promised.” Granted, Pheonix showed us some new songs off the album and we are very proud to say that this album will be well worth the wait. He told us that, “We’re progressing slowly, but I am confident that this album will contain some of my best material to anyone, whether it’s a longtime fan or someone just tuning in.”
Closer to Closure is Pheonix’s first album, if you forgot. The singer gained a lot of recognition last year for his hit single “Young and Broken,” which reached No. 43 on the Alternative Top 100 with another single peaking at No. 8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. Following his endeavors, he is signed to publish music under Corvus Records, and now, we await the release of his full-length studio album. There have been two other singles shared from the album, aside from “Young and Broken” which include, “Dancing in the Ashes” and, “Everyone Sitting Here”. We asked Pheonix if he felt the album would chart and he clarified that, “The goal is to lay the foundation for myself as an artist and for listeners AND for my future projects. I have high ambitions with the project, but I don’t want the sole focus to be having it chart but… I am hoping to place within the Top 100.”
By the sound of it, fans can look forward to a lot of amazing music on Closer to Closure. The snippets alone are enough to make anyone excited. When asked what inspired the songs on Closer to Closure, Pheonix remarked, “I want an album of songs that followed the themes of hardships, making ends meet, and finding closure in things you may never get closure from, if that makes sense. I do think that all of these songs work well together, and I also think each track offers a slightly different impression on whatever sound I’m going for. Songs have a pop overtone, but every song on the album has a different undertone or subgenre helping it differentiate from the other songs.”
Fans have already heard tracks like, “Young and Broken” and, “Dancing in the Ashes“, but when we asked Pheonix which song(s) he was anxious for fans to hear, he said, “I am eager to have a body of art that follows a narrative. I really love LPs and the flexibility they give an artist to tell a story, develop an alter ego, and so many other things writers have and continue to do with them. I know that’s a bland answer in context, but I am very excited for listeners to follow this album track-by-track.” The album is expected to have at least 12 songs with three singles being currently available to purchase or stream.
Pheonix mentioned that he anticipates offering a variety of CD and vinyl editions of the album, each with an unique colorization or pressing appearance. Be on the lookout via his online store or social media.
