Brooklyn, NY—Emerging from the remnants of a previous project, the band Paul Babe is excited to announce the upcoming release of their debut LP, scheduled for this fall. With roots tracing back to their earlier band Rossonian in Denver, where they garnered attention as runner-up in the 2016 NPR Tiny Desk Contest, Paul Babe marks a significant evolution in sound and artistic vision. The band’s early rock-leaning music has transitioned into an exploration of cosmic realms, reflecting the growth and introspection that developed through life-changing experiences.
After relocating to New York, Paul Babe’s creative process flourished within the confines of a small Brooklyn apartment. Juggling a serving job at a local pasta restaurant and dedicated music-making, the band created their new tracks that blend diverse influences and personal narratives. “Our creative process is unpredictable; it’s a lot of throwing ideas at the wall and collaborating with old friends,” explains Paul Babe. “Sometimes inspiration strikes when I experiment with sounds or simply sit at the piano and craft melodies.”
Musical inspiration runs deep for Paul Babe, with significant influences spanning from iconic figures like Prince—whose artistry was a defining presence in Paul Babe’s upbringing in Minnesota—to Radiohead and Brazilian music greats such as Djavan and Chico Buarque. Themes embedded in their music revolve around authenticity and vulnerability, as they navigate through the emotional aftermath of loss and the pursuit of beauty amidst scars. “If we can evoke any genuine reaction from our listeners, we consider it a win,” shares Paul Babe.
As challenging as it has been to carve out a space in the competitive music industry, Paul Babe finds solace in their unwavering commitment to creation. “[The challenges] have forced us to stay true to our passion and continually write music that resonates with us.” Notoriously, the band has refrained from fixating on social media metrics—choosing instead to focus on the intimate connections they share with a small, devoted fan base primarily made up of friends and local supporters.
The anticipation surrounding their debut LP is palpable, with recent releases like “Cliff Diver”—available on Beige Records—serving as a testament to the band’s sonic evolution. They are also gearing up for a series of live performances across New York, bringing their dynamic stage presence to venues like Hart Bar on August 7, 2024, and Sleepwalk on September 20, 2024. “We’re excited to share our journey through live shows and performance videos, each grounded in the spaces where our band grew together,” Paul Babe adds.
As Paul Babe sets forth on this new chapter, they invite listeners to join them in exploring the intimate and the cosmic through their music. The debut LP promises to be a heartfelt tribute to the trials and triumphs of their artistic journey—one that resonates with anyone who has faced challenges, embraced vulnerability, and dared to find beauty along the way. With each track, listeners can expect a blend of personal reflection and universal themes, creating a deep connection that transcends individual experiences.
