Because of fear, most people are satisfied with sticking to what is familiar and safe. Although it can be extremely tempting to stay in one’s comfort zone, countless powerhouses and luminaries send across the powerful message that aspirants must be prepared to take risks and dive into the unknown if they wish to secure a reputable standing in their respective fields. True enough, it was by being dauntless in the face of adversity that Virginia-born band Ok Mayday was able to make its mark on the industry.
If there is any lesson these trying times have taught the world, it is how to sing and dance despite the heavy downpour and doldrums in life. Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on everyone, from overcoming sadness and dealing with immense isolation to losing loved ones and experiencing an economic downturn. Since the global crisis has sparked a myriad of unpleasant emotions and negative vibes, Ok Mayday took on the challenge of showing how their music can help people survive difficulties with a resilient mindset and an unyielding spirit.
Emerging band Ok Mayday, which is composed of David Bollmann, Kelly Bollmann, Stephen Lee, and Matthew Osborn, strikes an elusive balance between arena pop, synth-sparked indie, and raw guitars. According to Kelly, the band is the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to music.
With the world still settling after a wild 2020, the refreshing timing of Ok Mayday’s new single, “COLORFUL,” could not have been more aligned with what the people from across the globe needed. The said song—which is a collaborative effort between Ok Mayday, J Warner, Clare Reynolds, and Harmony “H-Money” Samuels—was written when the band was coming out of a very difficult season in their career.
At that time, Ok Mayday and the rest of the team felt like they had to speak up and sing to their hearts’ content in order to fully embrace everything they had been bottling inside. Collectively, they believe that manifestation is the key to receiving the results that one wants. Thus, they confidently proclaim that change is coming and that the best is yet to come.
In an interview, Ok Mayday talked about who their music is for and what message they wish to give. “Music is as synonymous to us as humans as language. I know our songs are created from a special place and that they can resonate with people all over the world, from every age and demographic. We would love to have young kids and grandparents in the audience when we hit the road in 2022,” Kelly said.
Aside from their heartwarming artistry, Ok Mayday is also hailed for the deep bond and strong connection that the members share. “There’s enough bandwidth for everyone to win, but I really love our friendship that has been forged by fire. The resilience that the four of us have and the journey we have been through to get here is kind of incredible. I’m really proud of us for remaining super close in a cutthroat industry for this long,” Kelly further shared.
In the coming years, Ok Mayday intends to continue creating music that reminds everyone to be present, stay open-minded, and pursue something wholeheartedly and diligently. “Enjoy the creative process, and don’t let someone who hasn’t been a part of your journey speak down on that path. Life is short, so make it colorful,” the band said.
