A world united, and a world that heals together is what record label owner Mia Mahal wishes to inspire with the release of the single One World. Launched under the independent label of Mia Mahal Music, the rising record label owner co-wrote the lyrics with her mother, Aurora Belderol. She co-produced One World with her nephew, Jay Griff, and it is performed by her niece Teri Ryan together with her daughter Heaven Marley. Mia and her sister Lulu Nina perform background vocals for the song, making the single a symphony of great talents and a real family collaboration unlike any other.
“During this time when our country is so divided, I was inspired to create a positive message song that can heal the World like We Are the World. Aside from experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been so many lives also lost this year due to the overall lack of acceptance and understanding of our differences,” Mia Mahal explains.
Through One World, Mia wants to create an awareness and a deep realization among music fans all over the world that regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and personal abilities, everyone is considered a child of God.
Mia comes from a family of highly skilled and talented musical artists, and saying that music flows through her veins is an understatement. Her beautiful mother, Aurora, is a concert pianist and has been giving piano lessons and music classes as fas as Mia can remember. Mia Mahal herself is a pianist, singer, songwriter, and music producer, making her record label a timely and most anticipated development in her career. She is a well-trained classical pianist who plays soulfully since she was small. At the age of 15, Mia wrote her own song.
“I wanted to create my own music label because I wanted to have creative control of my music. With all the technology that is available today, independent artists can now release their own music without being signed to a major record label,” she adds.
With the vast reach and effectiveness of multiple streaming platforms available today, Mia Mahal believes that opportunities like this should encourage more aspiring artists to pursue their dreams in the music industry. At a time when the use of the right technology is very empowering, both independent artists and those having the support of big music labels have an equal opportunity to get their music heard. She believes that the next generation of artists will be made up of independent singers who will reach out to the world using multiple streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube.
Looking ahead, Mia Mahal envisions her music label becoming instrumental in helping many independent artists launch their music, especially aspiring singers from her home country in the Philippines. Having spent 11 wonderful years in the Philippines before migrating to the United States, she still vividly recalls the country’s rich and colorful culture and the exceptional singing talent of many Filipinos. She believes that the Philippines continues to be a haven for many promising artists as it also produced the likes of Lea Salonga, Jessica Sanchez, Arnel Pineda, Apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas, and Charice Pempengco, to mention a few.
