Over the years, the popularity of hip-hop has grown massively. What was once predominantly underground music has now successfully established itself as one of the most popular mainstream genres. In New York, one up-and-coming group is taking the hip-hop scene by storm with their amazing music and unrivaled talent – Heretic Klick.
The rap duo is composed of two gifted brothers: Eddie “Sin-X” Tamez and Marcus “Wicked-T” Tamez, who hail from Arlington, Texas. They are known for their well-rounded music that impressively combines elements from two legendary musicians, 2Pac and Michael Jackson. Their tracks feature poetic and captivating lyrics with gritty wordplay similar to those made by 2Pac. On top of that, Sin-X and Wicked-T’s live performances are a sight to behold as they incorporate choreography, much like Michael Jackson does. Specifically, they carry out show-stopping street dance moves that energize audiences.
As a testament to their exceptional success, Heretic Klick has recorded and released 12 studio albums with a collective stream count of over 90 million on Spotify. In addition, they have collaborated with some of today’s most established names in the music industry, including Rittz, Esham, Jarren Benton, GAWNE, Jamie Madrox, Lil Flip, Geto Boys, and Mr. Pookie. They have also recently made a New York connection with artists Big Twin and Cappadonna, who they will collaborate with very soon.
Of course, Sin-X and Wicked-T’s journey in the music industry is not all roses. The pair also experienced their share of hardships and setbacks. For example, they were initially set to perform in Poughkeepsie, New York, as the opening act for DMX. Everything was in place, and the contracts were already signed when a series of unfortunate events unfolded. One of them got arrested and spent time in jail for a bogus weapons charge. Furthermore, DMX was also arrested on the same day because of unpaid child support.
The show was ultimately canceled, and needless to say, Heretic Klick was heartbroken over the missed opportunity. Yet despite that, they still learned valuable lessons from it, especially after DMX shared some of his wisdom about the business during a video call session.
When asked what inspired them to pursue a career as hip-hop artists, the insightful men shared, “Our motivation comes in all forms, from the love of music and hip hop to being on the streets. We were raised in Lubbock, Texas, in a very bad area called the Tech Ghetto and rapping was a form of expression and escaped from the pressures that come from living in poverty. Our background allows us to paint a picture for our audience that is very vivid and graphic. Another form of motivation is our family and wanting to do better and show the youth that even when dealt a bad hand in life, you can turn it around for the better.”
Moving forward, Sin-X and Wicked-T intend to continue scaling their success by releasing more tracks and albums that people can relate to. But above all, the up-and-coming artists hope to continue making more connections, especially with people and fans who love their music.
