Cherriana (Wenqi) Wang, the provincial champion of the 2017 China Central Television (CCTV) Star of Outlook Song Contest, has risen to prominence in the New York music industry, becoming the youngest member of her team at Sony Music within just six years.
Recently graduating from New York University, Cherriana now serves as the Asia and Middle East Artist Development Fellow at Sony Music Entertainment’s New York headquarters. She reports to Shridhar Subramaniam, the President of Corporate Strategy and Market Development for Asia and the Middle East. Notably, Cherriana is the sole Chinese national among the frontline teams at the New York headquarters.
Before assuming her full-time role, Cherriana excelled during three consecutive internships at Sony Music in New York. During her internship, Cherriana collaborated with Sony Music China artist Su Ruiqi (Sury Su)’s team, the New York University Student Associations, and numerous local influencers, orchestrating groundbreaking promotion events which marked Sury as the first-ever C-Pop singer to speak at New York University. This success earned Cherriana recognition, making her the first intern to be featured on Sony Music’s social media platforms. To date, she remains the only Chinese employee to be featured in this manner.

In December, Cherriana was once again invited to host Sony Music’s social media reporting, leading audiences into events for the renowned Filipino idol group SB19 in NYC. The consistent media invitations showcased Cherriana’s recognized business acumen and esteem.
Post-graduation, Cherriana continued her relentless pursuit of developing artists on a global scale. Collaborating with top executives from Asia and the Middle East, artist teams, and external partners, she focused on enhancing market performance and maximizing artist influence internationally. Cherriana’s profound understanding of different cultures allowed her to play a key bridging role in East-West collaborations, crafting an international sound for music from various countries.
At the end of 2023, Cherriana flew from New York to Dubai, successfully completing the inaugural Sony Music Asia and Middle East Strategy Meeting. Marking the first time Sony Music combined annual conferences of Asia and the Middle East, this signaled a new era.
Cherriana was the youngest speaker at the meeting, aside from executive participants from New York and various countries. She shared her insights into the international promotion of music and artists on the world stage. Cherriana’s pivotal role in the completion of and presenting at this significant international conference highlights her outstanding managing skills and recognized excellence in the headlines.

Additionally, Cherriana was invited to speak at the Sony Music Career Development Lecture in 2023, sharing her journey of achieving professional success at the age of 24 and providing guidance to other young employees nationwide. She was also invited by “Rap of China” (中国新说唱) to judge the 2024 New York auditions, offering scoring and advice to upcoming artists.

With her professional competence and unrelenting efforts, Cherriana crafted an inspirational career story that transcends borders and ages. Standing as a pioneer and influencer of the young generation, Cherriana shows the possibilities of young people in this new era and illustrates the undeniable potential of youth in contributing to the future of the music industry on a global scale.
