Growing up in a small town outlying the city of Grand Junction, Colorado, Matthew Pifer found himself amidst a troubled environment. As a child, his immediate vicinity consisted of problematic individuals who partook in crime and instances of substance abuse. Many of the people he knew from his hometown have now perished since his youth, several passing away from a drug overdose or suicide.
He knew he never wanted to end up like the people around him. So, at 19, Matthew Pifer sought refuge by joining the United States Army as a Calvary Scout after barely graduating from high school. At the age of 20, Matthew got deployed to Iraq as a member of the Second Brigade Combat Team First Cavalry Division.
The entire experience opened him up to a new perspective on life, ultimately allowing him to decide what he wanted for his future. After his one-year deployment and completing his enlistment, Matthew Pifer relocated to California to pursue a career in the arts, specifically in photography. He attended Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, where he discovered his passion for fashion and celebrity portraiture, which became his specialization.
In November 2016, he established his own photography studio, aptly named Matthew Pifer Studio. The brand would then gain prominence in the field as Matthew collaborated with many artists, models, and designers in the industry. Some of the well-known partnerships he has done were with Bones U.K., Victoria Jancke, Inas X, Jackson Englund, Ghostline Designs, Xavier Othon, and Asbury Park Jeans.
With a passion for photography and a consistent hunger for learning, Matthew Pifer took up an internship at 838 Media Group, working with Ash Gupta. The experience allowed him to refine his skills further and acquire mastery over his own art. Matthew also uses his craft to help up-and-coming artists, such as musicians, bands, and models new in Los Angeles, to help jumpstart their careers.
