Kyra Meyer-Johanson’s journey has been a series of transitions, from immigrating to the US as a child to navigating various career shifts, ultimately leading her to become a transition coach and leadership expert. Her diverse background, including experiences in sales, management, and tech, has equipped her with valuable insights into the complexities of personal and professional development.
During the pandemic, Kyra was struck with the realization that she desired to do more than merely survive; she wanted to utilize her skills to make a meaningful impact on others. This introspection led her to recognize a common thread in her career: coaching. Whether in sales, management, or marketing, Kyra has always coached individuals to overcome challenges and achieve success. “I know I was created and put here for a purpose,” she shares. “I’m trying to walk in that.” As she lives her purpose, she is hopeful to help others find theirs.
Over time, she has transitioned into broader leadership and communication coaching, helping executives articulate their stories effectively. Following the pandemic, she met with many clients who were transitioning either back into the office or into remote work, allowing her to use her personal experience with transitions to help her clients navigate their own.
Three Steps to Leveling Up
Kyra takes an empathetic approach to coaching and creates a judgment-free space for her clients as she helps them through professional challenges, empowers them to pursue growth, and guides them in finding the answers within. Here are three fundamental steps she uses to help guide her clients to level up in their careers and start living authentically:
1. Create Space to Think
The first step is to create space for introspection. Our world is so inundated with information that it’s easy to lose sight of our true direction. Kyra encourages individuals to ask themselves essential questions about their current transitions and future aspirations. By embracing change and letting go of past identities, her clients can discover their authentic path forward. “There’s a beautiful thing about letting things go and then discovering the new direction you are being pulled toward,” she shares.
2. Tell Your Authentic Story
Authenticity breeds connection. Kyra stresses the importance of presenting one’s true self, as people resonate with genuine narratives. While it may be daunting to reveal vulnerabilities, embracing authenticity leads to personal and professional growth. “People want to hear authentic stories,” she says. “They want to hear from real people. If you’re honest, you’ll flourish.” By aligning actions with personal values, individuals can craft compelling stories that resonate with others.
3. Develop True Leadership
True leadership involves speaking up for what is right, even when it’s unpopular. Kyra advocates for leaders who prioritize empathy, integrity, and inclusivity. “True leadership is saying what everyone’s thinking but are too afraid to say,” Kyra says. She coaches her clients to navigate challenges with integrity and purpose, acting from authentic values and consequently leaving a positive ripple effect on those they lead.
Coaching to Empower
As Kyra continues to navigate life’s transitions, she remains steadfast in her mission to guide others along their paths of growth and transformation. Her unique blend of empathy, insight, and experience equips her with the tools to empower individuals to embrace change, find their purpose, and lead authentically.
