BEYOND TECH, KHALIL HALILU IS CHANGING THE AFRICAN ENTREPRENEURIAL NARRATIVE

From improving connectivity, seamless financial transactions, borderless trade transactions, and access to public services, technology has been ingrained into society’s core and is gradually reshaping how we go about our daily activities. The aim of technology in itself is problem-solving and several bright minds continue to create platforms that help people solve problems.

One of the pioneers of this new method of solving modern-day problems is no other than Khalil Halilu, Nigeria’s tech expert and a well-versed entrepreneur. Khalil has proven to be someone who, over the years, is concerned about proffering solutions to society’s everyday questions and utilizing them to improve the lifestyle of Africans in today’s world.

In his words, “To go the unconventional way in solving problems, you need technology to bridge the gaps”. Having been recognized as a thought leader in the tech industry, Khalil Halilu is beyond being the Techpreneuer. He is the man inspiring the new generation of dreamers and young achievers. Walking his talk, Khalil started the Center for Civic, Welfare and Community Development (CWCD Africa) in 2018.

The CWCD Africa is a non-governmental organization focused on contributing tangibly to societal areas like Health, Education, Environment and Climate Change. Other areas like Sustainability, Inclusive Development, Welfare for Refugees, Migrants and The Displaced within the continent have also been visited. So far, some of Khalil’s solutions have contributed massively to a number of sectors in Nigeria.

Khalil’s courage and determination continue to blaze the tracks and instigate a turnaround for innovators and entrepreneurs, causing many to think outside the box of confinement of the Nigerian factor. Sectors like the Agricultural sector, logistics, consulting, and many more have felt his positive impact. Beyond those also, the Nigerian electoral process is another area where Khalil is using technology to provide solutions and foster new ways to tackle issues.

One of them is the invention of OyaOya – the marketplace platform for vendors to present their products, customers to select a product, commodity transporters and an escrow payment system for secure transactions, and both traders and buyers can testify to the ease and security the platform brings.

When asked about the platform, Khalil stated, “We are also mindful that today’s urban dweller is a very busy person. He or she does not have the time to go out for cooking gas or shop around for groceries. Customers just want access to the best items at the best prices, delivered to them with ease. This is where OyaOya comes in.”

With an ever-present passion for providing solutions, Khalil set out to further influence the logistics and even the electoral process. Under Khalil, the CWCD launched another invention – the Zabe app, which was pivotal during the Nigerian General Elections in 2019 as a civic tool that sought to deepen democratic participation and electoral transparency.

Khalil has encouraged more visionaries to look beyond just the profitability of Tech and create solutions that will bring ease for Africans. Of course, Technology is a wonderful means but Tech experts should remember to develop innovations that will help society and inspire the coming generations.

Realizing how important raising a generation of unconventional thinkers is to the future of any society in present times, not just in business, but all-round improvement, Khalil set up a project called CANs.ng. CANs.ng is a hub committed to building Africa’s next generation of Elon Musks, Jeff Bezos, Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealas, Steve Jobs, and so on. At CANs.ng, young people are nurtured and empowered to become thought leaders in their chosen fields.

For Khalil, the plan is to leverage technology to create sustainable solutions for Africa, but beyond that, inspire the next generation of mavericks that will see Africa grow to meet the ranks continentally.

Tesla Recalls All 53,822 Vehicles With “Full Self-Driving” Function

Tesla will bring back all 53,822 vehicles with its “full self-driving” driver-assist hallmark following the deliberate programming to slowly roll through stop signs in some situations.

Its recall will affect Model S, X, 3 and Y vehicles that have “full self-driving” software on its beta version enabled. “Full self-driving,” which is surrounded by controversy, is a driver-assist hallmark that seeks to someday enable cars to drive themselves.

The technology, at times, navigates Tesla vehicles swiftly and follows traffic rules such as stopping for red lights. However, in other situations, it has been determined inconsistent, as per statements from startled drivers using the software. Tesla notes that “full self-driving” needs a watchful driver who is prepared to take the wheels at any time.

“Full self-driving” has been rolling through stop signs after its first version’s release in October of 2020. After meetings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this month, Tesla chose to deactivate the feature.

In a statement, the administration said, “The Vehicle Safety Act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects posing unreasonable risks to safety, including intentional design choices that are unsafe. If the information shows that a safety risk may exist, NHTSA will act immediately.”

As per the document the auto manufacturer filed, Tesla will deactivate the feature immediately this month in a new and improved version of “full self-driving” software that’s released on the internet. There will be no need for drivers to take their vehicles to be reconditioned.

The feature brought back, called “rolling stop,” enabled vehicles to drive through all-way stop intersections at around 5.6 mph under certain conditions. Drivers have to activate their vehicle to a “full self-driving” style, with the feature included.

The automobile’s “chill” setting, which is the most conservative driving setting of the selections Tesla provides users, is not described as including the feature. The other settings which consist of the feature are the “average” and “assertive.”

How AI-Powered Route Optimization Is Improving Delivery Times for Couriers and Delivery Drivers

The pressures that delivery drivers currently face have never been greater. In an age where next-day delivery is not only an option, but a guarantee from many businesses, the demand falls on drivers to make quotas within limited time frames. Most recently, Amazon has faced scrutiny over the alleged poor conditions that their drivers work in due to immense pressure to make deliveries.

Right now, the biggest challenge involves the logistics necessary to make deliveries in less than one hour. When factoring in the time-sensitive nature of certain perishables like food, catering, health, or corporate packages, the demand becomes even greater. But with the responsibility to make fast and efficient deliveries falling on businesses, as well as the drivers themselves, could artificial intelligence be the game-changing solution?

Using AI to Optimize Delivery Routes

Anar Mammadov is the co-founder of high-tech delivery platform Senpex, which uses AI-powered route optimization, and has a median delivery time of around 55 minutes. As part of the platform features, customers can send items to multiple destinations within a speedy timeframe. It allows users to upload addresses to a list, and select a preferred delivery date and time, which then is fed through a smart algorithm to evaluate vehicle types, road conditions, and weather reports to provide the best routing experience.

“If warehouses, distribution centers, third-party logistics, or different e-commerce marketplaces have more than 1,000 to 2,000 deliveries to be delivered within two to three hours with 25 drivers, that is a challenging task,” Mammadov says. “This is where we should implement in-depth logistics and routes optimization and planning tools.”

Poor Planning Creates Stressed Drivers

“Mainly, drivers have issues with inefficient driving distances, and because of that, they are unhappy,” says Mammadov. Although, currently, the line between management responsibility and driver expectations is somewhat blurred. Is it the driver’s shortcoming if parcels are not delivered in time, when a number of uncontrollables like roadworks, weather, and human error may affect their route? Additionally, when drivers are making deliveries with a van loaded with hundreds of parcels, especially with different types of goods, the expectation that they could single-handedly make a judgment call on how best to coordinate delivery is simply unrealistic.

“Another main problem,” Mammadov says, “is if different types of products need to be collected from multiple warehouses and delivered to multiple drop-off locations.” He explains that delivery drops within one shift that include food goods for some, and pharmaceutical supplies for others, inevitably make for an inefficient strategy. “Here, we should implement a proper scheduling and coordination process on the drivers’ apps,” he adds.

AI Enables Flexibility

It’s not unusual for warehouses to have more than 1,000 shipments or more to process in a day. The most challenging issue, Mammadov says, is labeling and QR scanning to facilitate an efficient route for drivers. While this is standard practice for most warehouses, AI optimization needs to be integrated with these processes, along with radio frequency identification technology, to ensure a streamlined process from the warehouse to last mile logistics.

Above all else, Mammadov says, is that even with the help of AI, the people at the heart of these operations are human, and they require flexibility. This is where AI can assist in facilitating dynamic route changes at the last minute. This can include pushing cheaper deliveries to evenings and weekends with less time pressure, and flexible business hours to make deliveries for non-working days. This is a win-win for all parties, as pricing structures can be optimized for various types of deliveries. The importance of this technology cannot be overstated in contexts like holiday seasons where there are hundreds of drivers out on the road, almost all of whom have large volumes of deliveries to make.

Communication Is Key

Artificial intelligence may improve delivery efficiency, but it’s only one part of the wider system. Mammadov insists that open communication channels between customers, couriers, and dispatch teams are vital. “Sometimes, there are changes on the routes at the last minute by customers, which can complicate the management of returns to the warehouses if no customers are found at the drop-off locations.” AI, he says, is key for handling changes and ensuring route optimization in any scenario, but also that parties should be able to communicate with one another. By using AI to enhance practices for delivery drivers — rather than rely on it entirely — it creates space for a hybrid approach that optimizes conditions for drivers, and helps restore confidence in businesses’ to deliver on their shipping guarantees.Find out more about Senpex here.

“Eternals” Finally Saw Breakthrough As It Breaks Records In Disney+

Photo: Marvel

The recently released “Eternals” is now available on Disney+, which has given fans an effortless way to rewatch it and potentially give them a chance for reinvestigation.

It looks like “Eternals” has finally found an audience. The film was streamed by about 2 million households during its first five days on Disney+ and broke a record for highest-ever ratings by a Marvel Studios film.

In just five days, the new Marvel film shattered the previous record for most streams by a Marvel Studios movie. It bested both “Shang Chi” and the “Black Widow,” which held this honor before it.

1.8 million households streamed “Shang-Chi” on its first five days on the platform, while “Black Widow” gained only 1.1 million streams. As for the adversary studio (DCEU), 2.8 million households watched “The Suicide Squad” on its release, and Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” gathered 1.8 million views.

Marvel Studios had had difficulty selling out the new film because of the pandemic. The film didn’t quite meet the expectation of the television production giant during its worldwide premiere in late 2021.

The movie received a mixed response from critics and fans alike, which caused it to have an impact on its box office numbers each week. However, the potential for this film, just like any other MCU production, is huge.

The cast and crew of this movie is a who’s-who in Hollywood. Directing the film are award-winning (specifically Oscar) director Chloé Zhao, along with top tier actors like Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington, to name a few.

However, there were claims that the film was primarily composed of exposition and way more characters than fingers can count. As such, the movie wasn’t considered by audiences to be a must-watch.

So it is surprising to see the film perform well on Disney+ with its negative feedback. But we would point out that the pandemic is one of the main reasons for its low marketability.

With the release of “Eternals” just before Christmas, it is likely that many movie-goers did not wish to sit in a full theater just days prior to visiting their families. Also, with the increase in confirmed cases of the omicron variant, people might prefer staying home.

TikTok’s Clone ? Here is Reels (by Meta) But Facebook desperately needs young people.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, needs to stay relevant. While it has over 3.5 billion monthly users across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, its user base is aging, it faces severe competition from TikTok, a short-form video platform, and its ad-targeting business model is facing a painful disruption. What it concentrates on next will define its future and affect the countless individuals who rely on its products.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear what the company’s long-term strategy is: it is all in on the metaverse, a virtual environment where people can connect with each other via augmented and virtual reality technology. However, for the time being, the metaverse is largely an idea that will take five to ten years to create – as a point of reference, Meta was formed only 18 years ago. Meanwhile, Meta is investing all of its resources into Reels, a short-form video app that looks a lot like TikTok but has received far less attention than its huge metaverse bet. That is not to say Reels should not be considered.

“It is definitely the right thing to lean into this and to push hard to grow Reels as quickly as possible and not hold on the brakes at all’’, as Zuckerberg said on a recent earnings call, mentioning Reels at least 20 times and listing it as his top critical investment area for 2022. So far, Meta’s push for Reels appears to be succeeding, at least in terms of attracting the attention of Facebook users: according to a research Reels have grown in popularity to the point where they now account for more than half of the top 20 most viewed posts on Facebook in the US last quarter – the data does not include Instagram views. Reels joined Facebook for the first time last quarter, so it is no surprise that they are on these lists for the first time, but it is significant that they are taking up so many of the top posts.

This conclusion underscores a larger flaw in certain Reels videos: they are not distinctive. While Facebook encourages producers to create more original content, this does not automatically equate to better films. Nonetheless, Reels’ early success demonstrates that it is difficult to resist when a corporation of Meta’s size wants the almost 4 billion people who use its products to embrace something – despite of its quality. Reels’ early success also suggests that it has the potential to do what other Meta products have done in the past, including copycat features like Instagram Stories, which were clearly inspired by Snapchat: reshape how billions of people communicate and share information, and help Meta remain the world’s largest social media company.

In the past, Facebook has shifted its emphasis towards — and then away from — favouring video posts over text and photographs in users’ news feeds. However, since Reels launched on Instagram in August 2020 and Facebook in September 2021, the firm has shifted its focus back to video, which has already had a huge impact on the most popular content on the app. Reels is the “fastest-growing content format” on Facebook and Instagram, according to Meta, which means it is growing faster than older features like Stories, Watch, and feed items. According to the firm, Reels is now the leading contributor to Instagram engagement growth, meaning it is where people’s likes, comments, and shares are increasing the most. This is partly due to Instagram’s recommendation of Reels in people’s feeds, which raises the question of whether people are watching Reels because they enjoy them or because Facebook is giving them to them.

However, the feature is not simply gaining popularity: Reels has begun to overtake other formats: in the fourth quarter of 2021, Reels accounted for 11 of the top 20 most viewed posts on Facebook. The research also revealed what types of Reels are getting the most views: roughly 73 percent of the top 20 chart’s most-viewed Reels were posted by anonymous accounts, while nearly 82 percent were from accounts that largely collected other people’s content. According to the research, two of the top Reels on the list were really repurposed TikTok films. Although the sample size is modest, it nevertheless provides an insight of the types of Reels that work well on the platform.

The high percentage of unoriginal and anonymous content, according to Jeff Allen, a former Facebook data scientist, is concerning because it suggests Reels is incentivising aggregator, spammy accounts rather than rewarding original creators who spend time and effort to create high-quality videos. In the long run, this could stymie Meta’s efforts to convince everyone to watch more Reels. In reaction to the findings, Meta’s management stated that because Reels is still in its early stages, the business expects to see more unoriginal content.

Meta has begun to encourage creators to post Reels created just for Instagram and Facebook: it announced in February 2021 that re-shared TikTok videos featuring the TikTok logo would be deprioritized. It announced that by the end of 2022, it will have spent $1 billion in bonuses and other payments to creators, and that it has recently begun a pilot to share 55 percent of ad revenue on Reels with a small set of creators. Meta’s nudges are already having an effect, persuading some of the artists and influencers who make a career off of its platforms to change the type of content they post.

Getting young people on board is an important component of Meta’s strategy for maintaining its dominance. Meta might be able to develop a new network of Reels-only creators if it can persuade its enormous network of influencers to post Reels instead of the photographs they are more comfortable with. However, creating good content is more difficult than merely paying creators. Some creators are generating Reels when they had rather be publishing images or tales resulting in content that some find less engaging than what you can find on TikTok.

Other than paying authors, Instagram may be able to lure them by providing regularity. Reels, according to several creators who upload to both sites, receives more constant likes, shares, and comments than TikTok. In the rest of the world, it is less obvious whether Facebook’s attempt to supplant TikTok as the most popular short-form social video destination will succeed. In 2020, TikTok created a $200 million creator fund, which it hopes to grow to $1 billion in the next three years. It will come down to whether Facebook and Instagram can promote the kind of engaging material TikTok has, as well as whether it can win over a vital demographic – young adults.

The two main drivers of Meta’s Reels campaign are linked: the company’s appeal to younger people in the United States is dwindling, just as newer generations embrace TikTok, the world’s most downloaded app in 2021. According to internal papers published by Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen last year, Facebook’s younger user bases in the United States have fallen dramatically, with teen users decreasing by 13% from 2019 to 2021. Simultaneously, the released data revealed how Facebook has publicly downplayed its own research that identified a link between its products and mental health concerns in some teenagers, including that Instagram exacerbated body image issues in one out of every three teenage girls.

As a result, US officials pressed Meta to scale back its efforts to attract younger users, who are vital to the company’s long-term survival. However, the scrutiny does not change the fact that younger users are still the most lucrative demographic for any social media company. TikTok, on the other hand, has become extremely popular among teenagers. According to online measuring company SimilarWeb, 3% of TikTok users were 18-25 in the past year, whereas just 27% and 23% of Instagram and Facebook users were in that age bracket, respectively. However, while TikTok appears to have a leg up on Meta in terms of its younger demographic and cultural impact, this may not be enough. Meta has a colossal amount of power.

Remember how rapidly Meta’s Instagram imitated and then overtook Snapchat, which was a huge danger to Facebook back in 2016; if history is any indication, Snap is still around, profitable, and popular among younger users — but it is not experiencing the same levels of rapid growth and cultural influence that TikTok is experiencing right now. It is too early to tell if the Meta vs. TikTok battle over short-form video will end in the same way the Meta vs. Snap battle did. But one thing is certain: Reels is not just a one-off copycat feature; it is an integral component of Facebook’s ongoing strategy to stay relevant and outperform its competitors.

Why the Future of Drones is DaaS

While a recent Bloomberg article lamented that drones are not yet delivering our Amazon purchases to our backyards in thirty minutes or less, as CEO Jeff Bezos seemed to promise some years ago, drones have quietly made huge leaps in industrial applications of late. Indeed, some drones have become so sophisticated that a startup has now launched the first drone-as-a-service, or DaaS, subscription product for customers in the agriculture, public utility, and security industries.

As software and AI have surpassed advances in the underlying hardware that runs them, leasing state-of-the-art technology has become a popular option. Upfront costs are small and companies are guaranteed the very latest technology. Such is the idea behind ZenaDrone, according to the company’s founder, Shaun Passley.

“ZenaDrone provides flexible drone surveillance services on a subscription basis,” Passley says. “You can utilize the scanning services as often as necessary, and you can choose drone-as-a-service for only the services you need for operations. Simple as that.”

ZenaDrone’s eight-motor drone may look familiar to hobbyists, but its carbon fiber shell disguises state-of-the-art features such as LiDAR (the same technology used in self-driving vehicles), GPS tracker devices, multispectral sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), and a raft of high-definition cameras. Taken together, these allow the ZenaDrone to create and tag precise maps of agricultural fields or any other area of interest.

Multispectral scanners, in particular, mark a significant advance in drone capabilities. By registering heat signatures from objects, animals, or persons, drones can do everything from remotely inspect power supply grids, to inform covert military missions, to determine if a livestock animal is pregnant or undernourished.

High-definition cameras also represent a significant leap forward. By capturing 4K video and images, the drone operator can effectively render 3D footage of acquired data for a nearly-limitless number of uses. Passley says that new, highly advanced inspection capabilities will reduce workforce hazards, especially when inspecting cell towers, power grids, and dangerous terrains. Other applications will be farm and crop monitoring, pestilence protection, powerline repairs, and GPS location tagging. Passley says that ZenaDrone is granting priority access to local and federal government agencies, and the company is working on a profit-sharing program for franchisees.

Drone Integration with Other SaaS Solutions

Because ZenaDrone’s major advances are in its software and AI, some of its most innovative features were developed far from the field. The company has, for example, coded an occupational safety management software that automates business forms, secures teams, tracks remote workers, and assists in complying with OSHA standards. A geospatial mapping tool allows users to tag company assets and resources accurately. Recent upgrades include field service management software, a healthcare portal, and customizable attachments including robotic hands. Finally, Passley has integrated ZenaDrone with VR glasses developed by an affiliate company in order to assist field technicians in complex repairs and maintenance. He expects drones to make major inroads in the medical industry, from delivering prescriptions to helping doctors operate and move portable medical equipment.

In other words, while you (sadly) may have to wait several more years to receive your cell phone charger or your Domino’s Pizza directly to your patio or deck, drones are still advancing at a rapid pace. Subscription services like DaaS mean that, at least for drones, the sky is no longer the limit.

Davis Elvin Raises the Bar By Fusing Style, Innovation, and Durability Within the Watch Industry

There are many ways one can show their sentiments towards a loved one, from words of affirmation to spending quality time. But most people often lean towards gifts to express their sentiments, gifting them with something that reflects how they feel towards their loved ones. Among the most gifted items on most people’s lists are watches. Although there is a wide range of brands on the market, Europe has some of the best watches available. Joining their colorful roster and one to consider is Davis Elvin’s masterpieces.

Davis Elvin is a watch-making company created in Milan, Italy, in 2012. The heir to a lucrative clothing business passed on from one generation to the next, Davis wanted to create something he could call his own. Determined to fulfill his goal, he thought of a concept that would revolutionize how people saw watches while bringing honor to his roots. As a result, Davis brought to life a masterful collection that’s out to reimagine how people keep track of time.

Named after its highly-successful founder and lead designer, Davis Elvin would quickly become the epitome of “daring to be different” while challenging people to “dare to love” – to love excellent watch craftsmanship, stunning design, and the people they want to buy these masterpieces for. Its reputation can be attributed to its fusion of contemporary designs with traditional Milanese fashion.

The design adopts a technology called TLCT or Thin Layer Composite Technology – a kind of carbon fiber that brings top-level aesthetics and maximum durability for someone who wants to move with style constantly.

Among the company’s colorful catalog is its flagship watch, the DR05-S. The watch sports a simple geometric design complemented by a rhythmic pattern. Its mechanic combines technology and art, conveying what Davis expresses as “the future.” In addition, the DR05-S sports a dial with nonstop power, transcending design norms. At first glance, the watch appears simple, but the DR05-S matches all styles and contexts. Davis Elvin also launched the ES01-1, a model with dark stripes of Arabic numbers but “blooms like a flower,” as he would describe. The ES01-1 is also one of the most unique in the market, balancing style with durability.

The Davis Elvin brand is a company that not only delivers in style but also seeks to merge with today’s culture and trends. Living in a time where lifestyles are more fast-paced than ever, there is no doubt that the chic millennial or style boomer will still want to do so in style. Davis Elvin’s creations seamlessly enable one to live both seemingly opposite lifestyles. The greatest paradox of the company’s watches is that they don’t feel like they’re there at all but still manage to easily catch people’s attention with their design and look. Davis Elvin’s watches are encased with titanium alloy materials and straps that softly caress the wrist for optimal comfort.

Having been in the industry for over ten years, Davis Elvin wants to continue his work and push the boundaries of timeless design with future releases to follow.

Instagram Brings Back the Reverse Chronological Feed

Photo: CNN

Instagram announced that it brought back the option to sort posts in reverse chronological order rather than ranked according to its algorithms. But the company said it is still retaining the algorithm ranking method by default. The new option is set to roll out to users globally on Wednesday.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri first hinted at the new feature during a Senate hearing last year about the impact the platform has on its young users. The move appeared to address concerns over how algorithms sometimes push younger users into harmful rabbit holes that can impact their mental health.

On Wednesday, Instagram said that users will be able to switch the manners in which posts are displayed on their feed. The Following tool, most familiar to those who used social media before algorithmic feeds were introduced, highlights posts from the people the user follows in the order the posts were shared.

The other option, a Favorites feature, will show the latest posts from a list of specific accounts, such as closest friends and favorite creators. A user can add up to 50 favorites, and posts from these accounts will show up higher in their home feeds.

“We’re always working on new ways for people to have more control over their experience on Instagram, and giving you ways to quickly see what you’re most interested in is one example of those efforts,” a spokesperson for Meta, which owns Instagram, told CNN Business.

As with its corporate sibling Facebook, which also offers a reverse chronological option, users will have to opt into the feature if they want it.

“We know from research that people have a better experience on Instagram with a ranked feed, so we won’t be defaulting people into a chronological feed,” the company said in a statement. (Instagram removed the reverse chronological feed in 2016.)

This announcement comes nearly six months after Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked hundreds of internal documents, including some that showed the company was aware of how Instagram can damage mental health and body image, particularly among teenage girls. US lawmakers questioned executives from Facebook and Instagram over this, halting Instagram’s plans to release a version of Instagram for kids under age 13.

Instagram has since rolled out a handful of safeguards aimed at protecting its young users, including a tool called Take a Break, which it claims will encourage people to spend some time away from the platform after scrolling for a certain period. It also said it would take a “stricter approach” to the content it recommends to teenagers and actively nudge them toward different topics, such as architecture and travel destinations.

Earlier this month, Instagram introduced a new educational hub for parents and a tool that allows them to see how much time their kids spend on Instagram and set time limits.

Track GPS Location for Your Child’s Phone with Family Orbit

In the present day, when we have been bombarded with reminders of the threats that exist out there, there is really no substitute for knowing where your kids are at all times of the day. We’ve all experienced that jolt at some point, where we wonder about the safety of our little ones – because at their age, everything is an adventure, and they don’t always get why we’d be nervous about their location.

It doesn’t even need to take an incident with one of your own kids to drive this message home. You can be watching a news report about an emergency situation taking place somewhere else entirely, and the most natural thing in the world is to put yourself in the shoes of the parents panicking about the safety of their kids. What would you do in their place? How would you handle that uncertainty?

Parents in the present day have an added wrinkle that many of our own parents never even had to consider – the threat that lurks online. Even when you can trust your own kid to the ends of the Earth, we know that there are people out there who aren’t so trustworthy – and that they can contact kids without their parents ever knowing. Even the most careful child can be vulnerable in the internet age, and it’s hard for any parent to stop worrying. That’s why Family Orbit could be such a huge help to so many concerned parents.

What is Family Orbit?

For any parent who loses sleep over the safety of their kids, Family Orbit presents a sophisticated tech solution that allows you to keep a benevolent eye on your child as they navigate the world. It allows parents to keep an eye on the location of their young ones and also gives them a look at texts, calls, photos, and WhatsApp messages that are being sent and received from their phones.

Family Orbit is an app that can be downloaded onto every family phone and allows parents to monitor their children’s movements, as well as the online content to which they are exposed on an everyday basis. If your child – by choice or by error – finds themselves in an area that is off-limits to them, you can take decisive action sooner and be able to get to them before it becomes a problem. You can set a “geofenced” area that your child is safe to move within, and receive alerts when they move outside of that area. You can then call or go find your child.

The unique features of Family Orbit

Family Orbit allows you to have a greater hand in the safety and security of your loved ones by way of three special, unique features:

Location History

Not only do you know where your child is right now, but you can also see where they have been. If there are repeated trips to an unfamiliar area, it gives you the chance to see what is in that area and figure out why they are going there. Along with the other features available on the app, you can use this to ensure your kids aren’t getting drawn into anything they shouldn’t be.

Geofencing

You know how innocently a kid can end up off the beaten track. As kids, most of us will have, every now and again, simply drifted outside of the areas that were familiar to us. Getting lost happens, but by use of the Geofencing feature of Family Orbit, you can ensure that your children aren’t drifting off into areas of town that may be dangerous to them. The moment you get an alert, you can call your kid or go to pick them up and get them out of harm’s way.

Check-in

Family Orbit allows your child to check in with you when they arrive safely at a destination. If they’re staying over with friends, they can ping you on arrival, every couple of hours, or whenever makes sense for you. Also, if there’s an emergency nearby – a transit accident, a police emergency, or any other event of concern – your kids can confirm with you that they are safe and you can check on the app to see where they are in relation to the event.
