Revolutionizing Disinfection in Dentistry: Trinion Labs’ Ozone Technology

Living through a pandemic taught us we critically need better technology to fight pathogens of the future. Trinion Labs’ (formerly named Fathhome) Co-founders have answered the call with their naturally derived, patented and residue-free disinfection technology.

Trinion Labs uses ozone to kill a wide range of pathogens in 10 minutes. With a unique catalytic converter design and smart safety sensors, they have eliminated the risks commonly associated with exposure to ozone gas.

Thanks to backing from the NSF and CDC, Trinion has published two peer-reviewed studies so far on the tech’s disinfection powers alongside Berkeley National Labs and University of Nevada Reno in the Pathogens and Medicine in Microecology journals, respectively. “The secret lies in the fact that all the disinfection gas is generated and subsequently destroyed at the point of use,” says Khazaieli. With rechargeable filters and on-board ozone emissions sensors, Trinion’s innovation can disinfect objects without exposing users or the environment to ozone, even indoors.

Trinion Labs’ Innovative Ozone Disinfectant Tech

Ozone, a naturally occurring compound, has unparalleled disinfection properties, making it highly effective in killing pathogens and viruses without leaving any chemical residue behind. Because of its effectiveness, several industries are currently utilizing ozone for disinfection.

“The technology has been around for 20-plus years,” Khazaieli explains. There are plenty of ozone disinfectors on the market but none of them are well-suited for use in an indoor environment or high traffic setting. We’ve developed a system with all of the disinfecting power, and zero emission of ozone into the surrounding environment.  That’s the key innovation here.”

Eco-friendly: A Game-Changer

Another standout feature of this technology is its energy efficiency. Traditional disinfection methods, such as UV sterilization and heat-based processes, consume significant amounts of energy. Trinion Labs’ ozone-based solution is 100 times more energy-efficient and has no harmful byproducts, making it eco-friendly. This reduces operational costs and provides a robust defense vector in disaster recovery and engineered pandemic responses.

Outside the United States, there’s a very high secondary medical market. Reggie explains, “A key thing about our technology is it generates disinfecting gas at the point of use, meaning there’s not a consumable that you have to ship across the world. If you’re in the desert, you could plug it into a generator. It’ll have the same effectiveness that it would have in a hospital without shipping canisters of disinfectant across the world. It doesn’t need to happen.”

The eco-friendly aspects of Trinion Labs’ technology extend beyond the minimal environmental impact and low energy consumption. The core innovation is that this gas-based approach leaves no residues or toxic byproducts. Because ozone dissipates naturally in the atmosphere, it’s a safe alternative in a world filled with toxic disinfectants and increasingly resistant pathogens or “super bugs.” Finally, in a state of emergency, this technology could be used to extend the life of single-use PPE. This provides a means to combat the mountains of disposable waste while providing peace of mind.

Making a Difference in Dentistry

After years of NSF & CDC funded feasibility studies and R&D, Trinion’s novel disinfector found a market in restorative dentistry. “Actually Eric found us,” explains Reggie, referring to their channel partner and Dental champion Dr. Zaremski, “He saw our medical prototypes when we were in preliminary exploration of medical applications during COVID.” As an early adopter, Dr. Zaremski uses Trinion’s disinfector multiple times per day to augment infection control at his own practice, SmileMarin.

In their first conversation, “He was like, ‘I’m a dentist. I use ozone in my practice. When used safely it’s a natural alternative that has benefits from a Restorative Dentistry perspective. Can you retrofit your technology to our use case?” And the answer was yes. In fact, many of the market verticals Trinion has conducted iterative customer development with (through NSF funded research and beyond) have come about in a similar fashion. “They come to us with a huge disinfection problem, and we apply our technology to that use case,” says CTO Reggie, “and that’s also why we’re so confident holistic/bio-dentists are the ideal market to launch our first product in.”

The technology allows dentists to streamline their processes, eliminate the use of cancer-causing chemicals, and provide a cleaner and safer experience for patients and staff. Early betas suggest Dentists can achieve unprecedented peace of mind against nosocomial infections while clawing back 1-2 hours per 10 patients, per day.

“It can sanitize rubbers, plastics, water lines, and other equipment that touches patients, but dentists dont have time to diligently cold-sterilize, unlike the tools that can be autoclaved.” Dentists can achieve 99.99% broad-spectrum disinfection for virtually anything in the room, having it up and ready for the next patient in less than 10 minutes.

The Future of Trinion Labs

The journey of Trinion Labs, founded by Amir Khazaieli and Reggie Jean-Brice, was driven by a pivotal partnership. The combination of Amir’s expertise in product value development along with Reggie’s product design background in electrical and mechanical engineering created a dynamic duo. From the moment Reggie used an early prototype to disinfect and deodorize his festering protein shaker, he knew the technology was on a path to revolutionizing global disinfection practices.

Still, it doesn’t end there. With its technological advantages and energy efficiency, Trinion Labs has the potential to make a lasting impact in fields beyond medicine, including aerospace, military, fitness, and more.

The need for front-line pathogen defense has never been more critical across industry. Trinion Labs, led by visionary co-founders Amir Khazaieli and Reggie Jean-Brice, has risen to the occasion with a goal of providing technological peace of mind in the face of disaster preparedness and engineered pathogen response. Together, they envision a future where the world can rely on safe, energy-efficient, and environmentally conscious disinfection solutions that just make sense, for dentistry and far beyond.

  • Efficient Data Collection

Ravi Pratap: QR Codes have become essential for both marketing and non-marketing purposes, benefiting both users and businesses alike. They are not just a way of sharing information but also a form of collecting valuable data and insights about consumer behavior, preferences, and engagement. This is where QR Code tracking and analytics come into action. Using this information, you can gain a better understanding of their target market, optimize marketing campaigns, and personalize the customer experience.

  • Versatile and Scalable

QR Codes are one of the most scalable and versatile marketing technologies. It’s extremely flexible, making it easy for businesses to adapt to different strategies and objectives. The fact that it is not limited to specific sectors and can be integrated into various marketing materials, products, or digital platforms is worth mentioning. But that’s not all.

Ravi Pratap: They have a wide user base, making it possible for businesses to target a large audience. Now, QR Code scanning apps are readily available on smartphones, and users can easily access and interact with QR Codes, further enhancing their scalability as a marketing tool. This is what makes them perfect for businesses of any size.

The Concerns: Privacy and Data Collection

With all the convenience QR Codes offer, many users worry about several associated concerns. The most common concerns included:

  • Unverified sources: Anyone can create and place QR codes, including malicious actors. Scanning a QR Code from an unverified source may lead to accessing fraudulent websites, downloading malware, or falling victim to phishing attacks.
  • Data tracking and profiling: Companies may use QR Codes to track user behavior and collect data, such as location, device information, and browsing history. This information can be used to build detailed user profiles, which may raise privacy concerns if not handled transparently and securely.
  • Lack of control over data sharing: Users may not always be aware of the extent to which their data is being collected or shared when scanning QR Codes. Without clear consent and control mechanisms, personal information can be shared with third parties without the user’s knowledge or explicit permission.

So, how, with these long-standing concerns from the user’s end, can businesses leverage QR Codes?

Ravi Pratap: These concerns are indeed valid and have been witnessed in numerous instances of QR Code misuse. When you use a secure QR Code solution with robust regulatory policies and features, you can effectively address these concerns. Nevertheless, it is important to note that QR Code solutions alone cannot provide users with comprehensive information regarding the collection and usage of their data. This responsibility lies with the business itself. It is imperative for brands to proactively reassure their users regarding the specific types of information being collected through QR Codes, the underlying purpose for such data collection, and how this information is utilized within their operations. By prioritizing transparency and clear communication, businesses can foster trust and address privacy concerns associated with QR Code usage.”

Strategies for Mitigating Data Privacy Risk

Data privacy concerns with QR Codes are no different than the ones users can face while visiting a website or downloading an app and sharing their contact information. However, there are a few steps businesses can take to mitigate data privacy risks and give the scanners the assurance they need to scan without worry:

  • Being Transparent is Step One

Businesses should communicate their data collection and usage policies to users before they scan a QR Code. Information about the type of data collected, how it will be used, and whether it will be shared with third parties helps establish trust.

  • Use a Secure QR Code Generator

Finding a safe and secure QR Code maker shouldn’t be that hard, as a good solution will always want to convey to its customers the steps it has taken to protect its data and that of its end users. Look for solutions that are GDPR and CCPA-compliant.

The GDPR sets stringent requirements for data collection and processing, emphasizing the need for users to provide explicit and affirmative consent before their data can be collected or utilized. Similarly, the CCPA focuses on giving consumers control over their personal information. It mandates that businesses allow users to opt out of having their data disclosed or sold to third parties.

Ravi Pratap: Beaconstac, as a leading QR Code solution provider, prioritizes data privacy and security. With SOC-2 and GDPR compliance, we ensure the integrity of user scan behavior, swiftly detect phishing URLs, and maintain data accuracy. Beaconstac also offers enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO), custom domain integration, and white label functionality, providing an added layer of branding assurance, guaranteeing that users recognize the authenticity of the QR Codes they scan, as they are exclusively associated with your brand.”

  • Opt-in Consent

Users should be able to explicitly consent to data collection and decide which permissions they grant when scanning QR Codes. Implementing an opt-in mechanism ensures that users have control over their personal information.

  • Anonymization and Data Minimization

Businesses should adopt practices that minimize collecting and retaining personally identifiable information (PII) through QR Codes. Collecting only essential data and anonymizing it whenever possible helps protect user privacy.

Future Trends and the Evolution of QR Codes in Data Collection

QR Code standards are evolving; some have built-in security measures, such as digital signatures, encryption, and verification mechanisms. Going forward, we can expect to see these features as a standard in all QR Code generators. This will help combat fraud and protect user privacy.

Moreover, you can expect to see a rise in QR Code adoption with the increased usage of smartphones. With this, governments and regulatory bodies will increasingly recognize the importance of data privacy and enact regulations to protect consumer information. Businesses can indeed continue to utilize QR codes for data collection. Still, they must stay informed about these regulations and ensure compliance by choosing the right QR code generator to help businesses maintain user trust and avoid potential legal repercussions.

Key Takeaway

Concerns surrounding data privacy and tracking implications cannot be ignored. Businesses and individuals must prioritize privacy and implement strategies to mitigate privacy risks associated with QR Codes. Ultimately, QR Codes have the potential to continue driving innovation and convenience, but their responsible and privacy-conscious use is essential for a sustainable and trusted QR Code ecosystem.

Exploring Dolby Atmos and why Metadata Matters

In the ever-evolving world of audio technology, few innovations have made as profound an impact as Dolby Atmos. This groundbreaking audio format has redefined our auditory experiences in cinema, home theaters, and gaming. Unlike traditional surround sound systems that rely on channel-based audio, Dolby Atmos uses object-based audio to create a three-dimensional soundscape that surrounds and immerses the listener. At the heart of this immersive audio technology lies the metadata used in Dolby Atmos, which plays a crucial role in structuring how this truly captivating auditory experience functions. In this article, we will delve into Dolby Atmos metadata, exploring what it is, how it works, and why it matters.

Understanding Dolby Atmos

To understand the specifics of Dolby Atmos metadata, it’s important to have a basic understanding of Dolby Atmos itself. Dolby Atmos is a sophisticated audio format developed by Dolby Laboratories, offering a more immersive and dynamic listening experience by allowing audio to move freely around and above the listener. Instead of relying on fixed channels (like 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound systems), Dolby Atmos employs audio objects that can be placed in a three-dimensional space. This innovative approach allows for a heightened sense of realism, enveloping the audience in sound from all directions.

What is Dolby Atmos Metadata?

Metadata in Dolby Atmos acts as the blueprint that allows this audio technology to perform its necessary functionality. In simple terms, metadata is additional information embedded within the audio data that provides instructions to the playback system on how to reproduce the sound. Think of it as a set of instructions that guides the audio elements to their rightful positions in the three-dimensional space.

Dolby Atmos metadata consists of two primary components, Audio Objects and Bed Channels. Audio Objects are individual sound elements, such as an actor’s voice, rainfall, or a car on the highway. Each audio object is accompanied by metadata that specifies its position in the 3D space, its movement trajectory, and other attributes like size and sound characteristics. In addition to audio objects, bed channels are similar to the speakers in a conventional surround sound setup and provide a foundation upon which the audio objects can be placed and moved.

How Does Dolby Atmos Metadata Work?

Audio content creators use specialized software to assign metadata to audio objects. This metadata includes information about the object’s position, path of movement, and characteristics. When you play Dolby Atmos content on a compatible system, the playback device reads the metadata and processes it in real-time. It processes the information, determining how to distribute each audio object’s sound across the available speakers, no matter where they are positioned. It can adjust to a wide array of speaker configurations, accommodating setups as simple as a soundbar, or as elaborate as a full-fledged home theater system and a cinema auditorium. The metadata ensures that, irrespective of your specific speaker arrangement, you’ll experience the intended audio experience.

Why Dolby Atmos Metadata Matters

Immersive Audio: Dolby Atmos metadata is the component that makes immersive audio experiences possible. It allows sound to move freely and precisely in three-dimensional space, immersing the listener in a way that was previously unattainable with traditional audio formats.

Flexibility: Metadata gives audio engineers the flexibility to create rich, dynamic soundscapes. They can place and move audio objects with precision, enhancing storytelling and creative expression in movies, music, and gaming.

In the field of spatial computing, aimed at providing an intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable user experience, UX design enables its users to better utilize spatial information as well as technology to complete tasks, access information, and interact with the environment. Therefore, my UX design pays attention to the combination of multiple aspects including spatial perception, visualization of geographic information, personalized user experience, function and applicability.

Q:Have those emerging technologies in recent years played any role in the field of spatial computing? How did you achieve their integration?

It was when I joined the UCLA Technology Studio that I began the leading-edge exploration of spatial design as well as the integration of emerging technologies, especially those cutting-edge technologies such as Interaction Design (IXD), AR, VR, etc. At that time, Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, proposed the Mars colonization plan when the rapid development of AR technology and VR technology provided new possibilities for simulating the space environment and constructing outer space residences. These factors had jointly driven human’s interest in Mars as a place of residence and brought new prospects for the application of some emerging technologies such as space computing, AR, and VR in space exploration. In the future background of human’s exploration of Mars, I created the Nomadic Cloud project, with the core goal of exploring human habitation and interaction design during the process of moving towards Mars. To convey the core concept of this project, I integrated some cutting-edge technologies and technological medias, including AR/VR experiences and 3D animated short films. These explorations were recognized by many awards from the field of spatial design as well as the film industry, and received extensive media interviews as well as recognitions from various medias such as cinemas, museums, and exhibitions. The lifelike interactivity and sense can provide users with a completely new experience, which enabled them to fully integrate virtual and real worlds. Finally, it was showcased at the 2019 Austin Design Week. Furthermore, I would like to introduce another interesting project called Beyond. This project was designed for Carnegie Museum of Natural History, By wearing the Hololens glasses, users can immerse themselves with the exhibits and personalize their collections as well as displays. This project was designed for Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and received some prestigious awards such as the Core77 Design Award, the Platinum Award of Muse Design, the Silver Award of New York Product Design, the Gold Award of Indigo Design, etc.  Besides, I also delved into academic research, exploring the intersection of spatial computing and cognitive science. In the Augmented Perception Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, I participated in a project, Chameleon User Interfaces in Mixed Reality, so as to reduce the overload information caused by excessive interfaces in mixed reality environments, help users interact more effectively with mixed reality environments, and thus provide a more natural and comfortable experience for users. Currently at Microsoft, I’m working on an AR/VR product, that is, Microsoft Mesh, with the goal of addressing the emerging remote work needs worldwide. We still hope to provide immersive experiences on both PC and VR devices so that collaborators can feel more connected and productive when working together.
